Thanks for the German coin info!! I have about 15 or so pounds of foreign coins from my Grandfather. They are all just separated by countries in zip lock baggies which I did about 10 years ago. But, I have been into the copper pennies lately... I will be ordering some of your coin protectors! Thanks again!

To complete the statements: On December 7, 1871, the marks of the mints were assigned in the order in which the states were listed in the constitution:
    Kingdom of Prussia
    A - Berlin
    B - Hanover (closed in March 1878)
C - Frankfurt am Main (closed in September 1879)
    Kingdom of Bavaria
    D - Munich
    Kingdom of Saxony
    E - Dresden (from March 1887 Muldenhütten near Freiberg/Saxony - closed in 1953)
    Kingdom of Württemberg
    F - Stuttgart
    Grand Duchy of Baden
    G - Karlsruhe
    Grand Duchy of Hesse
    H - Darmstadt (closed in February 1882)
Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg
    J - Hamburg (opened in January 1875)
From 1938 (connecting Austria) to 1945 the Vienna Central Mint used the mint mark B.
In the Federal Republic of Germany, each of the mints was allocated a standard production quota:
    until 1990 (D - 26%, F - 30%, G - 17.3%, J - 26.7%)
    from 1991 (A - 20%, D - 21%, F - 24%, G - 14%, J - 21%)

Love the Video! Could you please do one explaining the German Mints through the years you described? Perhaps something on the eras of the ...standard German monetary systems. If memory serves they had individual states and cities producing coinage until about the late 1880s, sometime after their Unification in 1871.

The leaves & plants referenced on German coins are from oak trees. I think it's one of the white oak species.
I forgot exactly why. I think it has to do with strength & longevity towards a stable future. That's one of those things I was taught as a child so long ago. I could be off in my remembering it, but I do specifically remember that they were oak leaves & oak trees.

I have a bunch of German coins, but not nearly as well laid out as you. I would need to search through to see if I have one of those valuable ones from my grandfather's collection. Thanks!
