I'd like to weave an image like the southwest new mexico sunset: oranges, purple, deep blues. How do I go about choosing the warp color?

The warp colour doesn't really matter, as the aim of tapestry is to cover the warp entirely 😊

hi Kelly!I don't usually comment but I just had to in this instance!I am a newbie weaver up until now using home made frame looms peg looms and tree branches. It has been a hard uphill battle all the way-but NOW I see the light after watching your video tutorials on tapestry weaving on a rigid heddle loom.SO much easier and more fun than needle weaving everything.Thank you so much! I have ordered an Ashford Sampleit loom and I can't wait for it to arrive so I can try my hand at your kind of weaving.Ohhhhhhh...happy dancing down here in Kiwiland! 😊

Linda, I somehow missed your message, sorry about that! By now you would have your Sampleit - how is it going?

Could you please recommend a beginner loom?
    Thank you for the videos!

I have a couple of videos on comparing looms and talking about rigid heddle looms. If you have any specific questions, let me know!

WoW! So I have a tapestry frame and I didn't know it :-)
How do you finish? Especially if you start with a wavy pattern.
Is there a concern about the fabric buckling or puckering because of variations in density?

Yes, the RHL is a great frame because of it's simplicity, some people will use it for tapestry without threading through the heddle at all, they use pick up sticks instead. Such a versatile little loom!
As for finishing, there are a couple of options. You could fill in above or beneath the wavy areas so that you have a solid line and then hemstitch or finish off the loom. I haven't tried hemstitching on the wavy lines, but that could work too. Another option is to remove from the loom carefully and knot the ends.
If you make your curves too extreme there may be issues with the stability of the fabric, but the amount I've done seems to be fine :)

How do you handle all the ends with all the different colors? I would think it would be hard to secure them inside the weft.

It's not hard, you can just tuck them into the selvedges as you go - or if you prefer, needle weave them in later.
