I wish they put the visualization for this on the large screen for S and X users so they can manipulate the view.
It doesn’t? I haven’t tried it yet. That’s weird. I have HW 4 I hope it does
Can confirm Model X with HW 3 (2021 build year) does not support visualization of any kind on the large screen. Only the screen behind the steering wheel. And yes I have FSD. Wish they would offer it on the large screen 😢
Yeah, 23 MS and it only displays on the dash screen behind the wheel not on the main center screen... so there's no way to move the image around using the touchscreen.
I’m really hoping they get better at objects permanence when the object goes out of view in front of the car. It seems like it should be doable ,especially for stationary objects
why would they. people will buy them regardless
So no automatic emergency braking yet - good to know! Thanks!
It’s kind of crazy that we’re used to a car that constantly add new features and improvements. My 2011 Nissan EV is exactly the same as it was in 2011.
And people complain and get mad that it only added these features and not more 😂
@@DirtyTesla I'm a software dev and I can tell you that any feature release will only get you more complains. :) Any UI changes and they want your head on the chopping block.
@lanzer22 Don't change the UI, rather improve the UX.
I love these types of videos. I'm too lazy to test this myself so thank you for sharing!
I wouldnt mind if Tesla decides to retro fit a front bumper camera.
They could retrofit install cameras in some new headlights. Put cameras facing forward and cameras sideways for cross traffic. Less creep at stop signs, further focal point on cameras for oncoming cars and forward cameras would pick up small kids or animals immediately as they move in front of car. Two birds one stone.
Likely can be done aftermarket on HW4 cars at least.
@@RPHelpingHand they wouldn't do that due to aesthetic reason so i think they should put two cameras where we've seen the model 3 highland has it but make them face left and right. that way they can help in parking situations like this, still be able to see cross traffic, not ruin their look and be in close proximity to installed easier and be able to be cleaned off with a built in washer like the cybertruck.
@@RPHelpingHandI wouldn’t hold my breath.
issue now is they need the camera cleaner like they have in the cybertruck which makes it not possible
I am somewhat satisfied with parking assist. I park normal, using cameras and looking around. The tesla vision helps me verify my position in the parking spot.
Thank you! I've been looking forward to a full video on this feature.
Love it! Thank you for the tests :)
Can you comment or test how well the visualizations work at night or in low light settings?
I’ve been using this visualization a ton when parking at superchargers. I like it. I like the orange/red gradient as well. I’m sure it’ll get better with more powerful computers. It’ll eventually look like PS5 gfx… lol. Can’t wait for that!
Nice! It reminds me of fsd visualization at the start with the occupancy network full of cubes and wiggley lines. What I would like to see is when the system tells you to stop then it wouldn't allow the vehicle to move further unless the driver forces it to by putting it in park and reverse/drive again.
Thank You everybody for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Thank You For this very informative video! Very important data to be aware of. I had discovered my Model Y parking info is much more accurate getting my wife’s assistance as I pulled straight in toward a curb - the ridiculous safety factor is gone. When it says stop it’s time to stop. With the knowledge of this/your video I will be learning how to better use and trust the rendered video. Many thanks.
Great testing, Chris and Stephanie! You could be saving lives with Tesla adding lessons learned 😀😀Cheers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I feel for the software to be truly improved, it needs to avoid potholes. If you checked my disengagement log, it would be 90% took control to avoid a pothole.
Very likely coming with v12. In theory that drives exactly like a human (except mistakes), so should do all the things that humans do. We already saw that it pulls over at the end of the drive, which older versions don't do.
The dog as a motorcycle was so funny!
1:50 It’s disconcerting that your daughters weren’t shown on the screen after they were in front of the car. 🙁
That would be nice, bit what’s the problem with using your eyes to look out the windshield? Unfortunately, neither you nor the forward cameras can pick up objects in the blindspot below the hood level.
@@BobbieGWhiz The _problem_ is if the visualization doesn’t see them it won’t stop or alert. Imagine if he was using the feature to back up and he couldn’t see them.
@@skyserf I agree that it is imperfect, but children would show up just fine while viewing the rear camera images. The camera views pop up automatically when shifted into reverse.
@@BobbieGWhiz If children show up fine using the rear camera why wouldn’t they show up in the visualization‽ That is where the data comes from.
Isn’t there a mode where you can see on screen any of the cameras view? Be interesting to see what those front windshield cameras see when the kids walk across.
I don't think the park assist is a preview of V1 because, AFAIK, the occupancy network was scrapped in V12. But the fact it can be used for this purpose means it doesn't go to waste.
I am very happy with it while parking forward with painted parking spaces. For reverse, the rear camera is the gold standard. For my garage, a tennis ball works the best. Not sure why they make you put the car into reverse momentarily to allow the parking lines to show up.
It shows up when in drive if you get close an obstacle
@@ericy.2108 If there’s an open parking lot with painted parking lines, and no obstacles, then the lines don’t show up.
Mine right now just looks like the image used for this video. Is that how it’s supposed to look or do I have to do some sort of reset?
I use autopark with my 2020 model 3 all the time. Do you have it yet with Tesla Vision?
Havent you done a video that shows what happens inside of a Tesla when it updates? I cant seem to find it anymore....
Very Cool! It will get better. Just How much and How fast? Thanks for sharing Have a great Day!
So there are no distance readouts at all then?
Does Park Assist do anything for parallel parking?
About the advertisement battery, you said charges fast as possible on the wall outlet, thats 120v US, right? What about 240v eu? I run a 3.6kw ac daily
I get you need to advertise to support your channel. Perhaps you could put a progress bar sliding down until the ad is over? this also informs people when you are doing paid presentations
Thank you so much for making this video! This is so important to shed light on at this time. Tesla has been to quiet about this and we need people with influence to speak up, thank you and i'm sure alot of us with "Uss'less" cars (pun intended) appreciate this!
I'm only 18 seconds in, and "what am I doing with my life" COMPLETELY caught me off guard lmao, very VERY clever retention strat. You should consider making this a legit thing every or at least most videos. That was a really fun and personable way to start a video. Changes to you physically, verbally, and now story telling with subtle editing nuances. You truly are really starting to find your groove and it shows. Very well done 😂
@@elonmuskceospaceX I'm from a small city called Go Fuck Yourself. You're from Trash Street I assume?
How can I get this view to appear on my center screen as opposed to the instrument cluster on my plaid?
Idea to test distances... Keep the map on screen at a fixed zoom. Measure the lines that it can pick up on the ground, and use that as a scale for distance and see if it is consistent. Not the most definitive way to do it but it would be better than "eyeballing" it.
So cool ❤, Chris how about putting garbage plastic bag on windshield. Apart from top camera, and try navigate purely on visual from screen? Scetch as hell, but maybe on a rather closed track?
I would start measuring your garage NOW so CT will fit in in March, grats Chris.
Are the graphics for AP too ???
Your little girls are so cute! Hope you had a Merry Christmas and cheers to a great New Year. Can’t wait for your 2024 videos.
Cybertruck is ordered and should be here by March! Happy New Year! 🎉
@@DirtyTesla those videos are going to be awesome. Congrats.
Oh, this is awesome. I'm still a few years out from buying a Model Y, wonna pay off my house(I'm weird like that) but all of these features and Juniper, is going to make this car perfect for when I have the money ready. :D
The longer you wait to buy a Tesla the better it is
Good video shows where the weaknesses of the new system are. Would be interesting if your car with Ultrasonics would have stopped for the "person"
It does in this video when manually driving th-cam.com/video/cJh-LQABNUg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6Jo5pzmE5R2kOSmK
@@DirtyTeslayes but a little different Szenario not at parking speeds or in reverse.
This looks so cool, gotta say
How do you make the visualisation full screen? Is this only available with FSD?
Yeah
Hey is there a way you can tell me what Laptop you have. It’s not in Description. Thanks, I appreciate it.
What does the actual front cameras show?
Amazing what they can do. I've been convinced they won't be able to get to fair-weather full autonomous driving until they have 360 binocular vision, but this has me wondering..
Nice review. Do you know if I can get this view on my 2021 with ultrasonic sensors? Or is it just for the non ultrasonic cars? I've driven mine after the holiday update and didn't see a way to activate this view.
For now it's non-USS only, but will hopefully come to USS cars later
It will come to the car with the ultra sensors but down the line it's already confirmed
Do you have HW4 cameras or HW3 ?
Promising but needs a lot of work. While you were excited about what it was seeing, like buildings, we all noticed the things it wasn't - like cars DIRECTLY in front of you.
So will summon and autopark be available for vision soon?
Definitely, just like FSD.
Are you using HW 4? I have HW 4 was wondering if the graphics are better? This is great cause I’m always afraid of scraping the front of car when parking. Been put the air suspension on very high at the grocery store in the model X so it doesn’t scrap the front but it would be nice if this works and I can actually see how close I am to the parking stops.
Why don’t you try it and let us know.
@@BobbieGWhiz no go
How did you get the NAV screen to disappear? Great video’s. Very helpful for the new owners.
When you have FSD you can expand the visual to full screen
Great video!!!
What are the requirements for Tesla High Fidelity Park Assist? I have 2019 M3 with latest update and don't seem to have this feature.
You have all the requirements. Its just that Tesla does not give you the update yet because you have ultrasonic parking sensors.
This may explain the lidar that was on Tesla a while back. Teaching it how to recreate and improve on lidar.
Great video Chris! impressive to see how the car renders the world, but I don't see how this is better than the ultrasonic sensors. The cameras are useless when dirty, which is more often than not this time of year. I'm wondering why we need a rendered view, generated by cameras, when the car could actually display a 360 view with the same cameras? 🤷🏼♂️ Disappointing the refresh 3 doesn't have a bumper camera. This video clearly shows it's needed without the ultrasonics.
Ultrasonics don’t pick up kerbs and parking lines. They don’t pick up obstacles on your side.
What happens when the cameras lens gets dirty ?
Very cool to see all these tests, thanks. Btw, your kids are pretty damn cute!
Thank-you so much for doing this video. I have a 22 MYLR and love it already out of warranty 80k (in Ontario) I wonder if Tesla vision is a retro fit or if that will apply to FSD (yes I paid for it) but love it.
Your car has all the hardware necessary, they simply haven't enabled this on USS cars yet. I assume they will
@@DirtyTesla what about cars that dont support high fidelity park assist..as far as I know.. my uss m3p 2020 isnt getting it due to the intel based computer.. is that true?
@@DirtyTesla Thank you for the reply! I do have a question (on a previous video you showed the holiday update). And when you went to the lightshow you had a drop down if the 3 different shows. (HOW?)
Best detailed review ever
guess this isnt coming to my 2020 model 3 performance..do I need the ryzen computer for it? I would hope the equipment I have can run fsd 12..even though I dont get the high fidelity park assist
The display computer (intel or ryzen) doesn’t run FSD - it’s only for the entertainment and display. FSD uses the Hw3 and Hw4 systems which are dedicated custom computers where all the important things are being done.
It should be running on the FSD computer. If that's the case it should be working on any Tesla made since mid-2019.
Imagine this with a bumper camera, mind blown.
So cool! Too bad the Holiday Update bricked all features that use the camera. I’m not the only one, and it doesn’t seem that Tesla has a fix. I have a service appointment next week. Very frustrating!
Try reinstalling the update in the service menu
😎👍
Pushing the limits is fun! Great tests.
Gotta wonder if the auto breaking has been tamped down to help with false positives or if it knows that isn't a real person.
wonder if they’re a real-time implementation of NeRFs/splatting for their visualization
😂 LOL love that intro!
13:35 how do you 'swipe' this to full screen? In my car it doesn't work (MY rwd, in europe, standard ap)
Can only do it if you have FSD in the US unfortunately
Chris my model X with hw 4 I got it delivered couple months ago and the fsd is so bad that I can not believe (I had a model S with hwd 3 previously with amazing fsd experience). I recalibrated the cameras but no improvement, so taking it to service. I am worried though they say they don’t see any issues and I have to just suck it up and accept the fact. It makes real bad mistakes (not stopping for red light a couple of times!, not respecting basic right of way scenarios, super jerky steering in turn etc. )it reminds me of version 10 and I really don’t know if everyone with hw 4 or I should say model X hw 4 have the same experience.. or I should just wait for V12.
1:47 - I want to be able to show the car and its surroundings on my center screen and be able to change the view in my Model S. I hope that comes some day.
15:09 - Strange that the car just a few feet in front is NOT in the re-creation.
I wonder if the 4 MPH limit is because it takes a lot of compute to make those graphics and at higher speeds the compute can't keep up with the car.
Is the full screen mode only on FSD beta?
Yes.
Does it show if another car has their backup lights on?
No
In my Model S, the park assist render shows up only in the binacle and I am not able to change the point of view like you are doing through the touchscreen. BTW, I don't have FSD.
So far, it feels like a step back in my case, because the fuzzy render does not give a very good indication of distance.
It’s not helpful at all in my garage, but at a parking lot it shows the parking lines very well improving parking forward for me.
@@BobbieGWhiz I agree. Hey! maybe I should paint lines in my garage? That could be an interesting test.
@@nelsongarcia8959
Haha. Maybe start with masking tape?
Nice video. I bet not many people appreciate what we’re seeing here. The difference between the rendered image and the pixel image is the fact that the artificial intelligence engine is interpreting these pixels from the camera and figuring out what everything is; cars, people, curbs, lines in the road, signs, etc. That’s an incredible feat and a lot more than just pixels from a camera or video image. It’s an interpretation of those pixels.
Wow, it looks good but still will kill people.. Yeah I think it is you that doesn't understand champ, FSD is a scam..
My guess is it can’t resolve and render anything moving faster than a certain threshold. Cool anyway!
Mm, still needs a front bumper camera. What it those boxes were a small child or pet?
Talking about v12, its a shame that we didnt get to see it this year afterall
Year is not over yet.
Seems like an overly technical replacement for a 360 camera, while still not providing the same utility. Also, what about cross-traffic sensing and alerting? Being in a busy and crowded parking lot is very challenging to leave a parking space safely, and I would like to see if this new system would help in that regard. This is something that our 8-yr-old Explorer is very good at, and would be very difficult to go without.
3:55 whats that game you are playing? im legit curious to give it a try.
Looks like Baldurs Gate 3, but im not 100% sure.
Can the VTOman battery be used to charge a OneWheel or other eToys?
Definitely. It is equivalent to a standard home wall outlet. And it's 1.5kWh, so depending how big the one wheel battery is, it can fully charge it multiple times.
@@DirtyTesla Very grateful ! I drive a Model Y and it seems stupid that it can't charge a OneWheel. Tesla needs to get with the 21st century !
But it is not just the Parking assist, check out the wipers, Elon gave us another Christmas present, full control on wipers, you can in Autopilot, change the settings from auto to max to 1 or even off! Finally!
@@elonmuskceospaceX I am on the West Coast of Canada on the Sunshine Coast which is a ferry ride out of West Vancouver, BC.
I guess when the driver is in full control it is up to the driver to decide whether to stop or not, there could be a car jacking.
Really miss the full screen mode from my 3 months free fsd beta!
22:23 that is too cute!
23:53 someone is inside of the house :P
Wondering about this 'dummy' test. EU law mandates automatic emergency braking for pedestrians at slow speeds so I would have expected the car to stop.
Should have put a camera in the bumper or something. The windshield camera isn't enough I don't think
Chris, this is really cool but it demonstrates that, without question, Tesla needs to add a front camera to their vehicles. It also begs the question why Tesla doesn't just show knitted video rather than a representation of reality.
Thanks for your continued testing of new Tesla features. You couldn't do this with cars from any other manufacturer!
how did he make it fullscreen? He's driving a Model Y?
Need FSD to make it full screen
Features I want to see most: 1) anti-curbing and anti-bump feature - simply don't allow the wheels to hit curbs and dont allow the vehicle to pull into a parking block, wall, supercharger or other vehicle. 2) quick release sode view mirrors and stop including rear view mirrors, not a single state requires 3 mirrors, many only require 1 or 2, and some states are now calling a camera view a 'mirror' as it's mirroring a view for the driver. 3) optimize suspension at speeds (with teslas that have the ability) for drag coefficient. 4) have a slider at the top of the main screen that goes from "max range" to "max performance" and lists estimated remaining/total range as you slide - this adjusts HVAC, Regen, acceleration, suspension, etc., and I bet Tesla could squeeze a good 10% range increase by doing this. 5) bring back silver metallic and the most amazing silver metallic ever. 6) price per mile FSD... first 420 miles free, then 20 cents per mile to 5k miles per year, 10 cents per mile to 10K, 5 cents anywhere past that... would increase adoption massively as well as profits for Tesla as the hardware is there but 83%? of Teslas don't purchase or subscribe to FSD. 7) powershare on all vehicles. 8) lower lease prices assuming lower interest rates are coming. 9) new 48/400 and drive by wire on all vehicles, ASAP. 10) watch out for Waymo - if Waymo starts subscription services with unlimited ride plans at $199/mo and unlimited shared ride-pool plans at $69/mo (it's possible and can be profitable) and higher-priced Waymo Executive vehicles - think of a custom Rivian van with a massage chair, snack/drink bar, workstation, etc - for $500/mo unlimited, then why would any of us ever buy a car at all? Oh and 11) massaging front seats, please oh please, pretty please... cost to Tesla has to be around $50 per seat since my full body massaging seat cover for my model x was only $100.
Man I hope you read this and would love to see these in your next video.
What was the game you played during the ad?
Looks like Baldurs Gate 3, but im not 100% sure.
I know Tesla doesn’t want to admit they need further hardware but it’s so obvious the car does have blind spots and can’t see cross traffic well from B-pillar. The sooner they admit there’s a problem the smaller the retrofit fleet upgrade. I’m curious what the view looks like from cyber trucks sideways view cameras and if the front bumper camera shows the edges on the front of cybertruck? It’d be very discouraging if they still haven’t learned their lesson on blind spots…
I guess that if this was in the Zombie apocalypse, then you really wouldn't want the Tesla to stop in front of a stationary zombie... otherwise they would be able to trap you really quickly...

Trusting vision is a terrible shortcut jeopardizing safety for cost savings.
Probably near realtime photogrammetry. Impressive.
wht i don't get is why it does'nt have beeping sounds when ur in reverse and backing into an object
I wasn’t aware that it didn’t. Do you want it as a redundant warning just in case you’re not paying attention and using your eyes as you’re driving? Driving forward into my garage, it beeps and says stop at completely inaccurate distances. I only like it to show the parking lot lines as I’m nosing forward into a parking space.
Hifi is impressively accurate. I'm really starting to like it after understanding what the graphical representation means.
