Just got a 2020 Silverado High Country 6.2 L. coming from a 2017 F150... Ford is great however, this Chevy is phenomenal. Performance, handling especially when you put it into Sport Mode. Great investment,
I have a 2019 Silverado Crew Cab LT Z71 with 5.3 in White. I really love this truck... very quiet and rides really smooth. I definitely would have liked to have the 6.2 but when I got mine inventory was pretty limited and could not find a LT with the 6.2. The 5.3 still does a great job at pulling my 23' 5,000 lbs travel trailer, I do not feel under powered at all. There is only one small complaint that I have with mine... I have the standard bench seating with cloth but the rear seat does not have the fold down cup holders and there is no cup holders in the doors or anywhere else in the rear unless you try to count the big pockets in the bottom of the doors. So when my kids or anyone else is riding in the rear they have no cup holders to use. I really expected something like this to be standard at least on the LT. I noticed the 6.2 and the Trail Boss package really takes a hit on the Payload... my truck has a payload of 1973 LBS vs 1612 LBS on the truck in this video.
@DrgnFlys Curtis is referring to the frame being wax coated on the 2019+ Silverado's. Ford and Ram have moved on to eCoating which does a lot better for rust. This is a cost-cutting measure by GM and it's unfortunate. Rusting has always been an issue because of this. The cylinder deactivation has also caused owners a lot of heartache.
I was wondering if you test drove the Ford raptor or the ram rebel and if you can tell me if the 6.2 trail boss how is the gas mileage in that please thank you
@@joeyl1939 I didn't drive the Raptor. Way over the price range I was looking for. I did drive the RAM. Interior was nice but the power was definitely less. Also, I have owned 2 RAM's. The constant recalls were driving me crazy. I live 60 miles from the dealer and it became a real hassle. When I traded my last ram in it had four recalls still needed to be done. I'm averaging 17.5 mpg on the Trail Boss.
@@dubltap7216 thanks for the reply I did think though the ram rebel had 395 horsepower but I think going with the trail boss is probably my best option since I can't afford the raptor but thank you very much and if I do get it I definitely will post a picture thank you
A friend at work has one. He hates the button on the tail gate. Prefers latch like the older ones. In our cold winter climate the tail gate won’t unlatch. With a tonneau cover it’s hard to pull and open. Also if you have sheets of wood on top it won’t open. Need two guys. One to hold up the material and one to hit the button.
That antenna is also useful if you're going into a parking garage with a low clearance. If that antenna hits the bar you probably need to back outta there
Silverado is much faster I have 2020 6.2 TB and consistently get 6.1 sec. to 60 which is fast for a truck this BIG . Blows the doors off a 6.2 AT4 that my neighbor has
@@marcuscrocker4048 I agree I was on the highway and this 6.2 at4 pulls up and we gun it my silverado TB 6.2 was taking him till we hit 98mph and mine hit the speed limit. He had a speed limit delete in his at4. I know my truck is slightly faster than the At4.
Truck is amazing. I just bought one myself. Also I like this guy that bought the truck. He seems very comfortable on camera. Seems like a guy you could just grab a beer with and BS about trucks!
Nice truck. I'm not surprised he picked it over the Tundra. Can't believe he bought it and never looked under the hood. He could have bought 5.3 and never know it....
He did talk about towing and i dont think he knows that the 323 axle ratio is not a desirable axle for towing. he said it had the towing package but at the end of the maroney sticker it said 323 axle. Big tires and that axle not a good mix for towing anything heavy up and down mountains.
@@TheRubicon01 I’d agree on an HD. The 3.23 is fine for a light duty. The max trailering package only upgrades the rear to 3:42. You really aren’t going to see a big difference there. A lot of people want to see 4:10, but even in the HD, they stopped offering it and go 3:73. The big reason is the multi speed transmissions these days. With tow/haul mode engaged a 3:23 can feel like a 3:73 with the new transmission mapping. I’ve towed RVs with the 3:73 Chevy HD and it doesn’t need stouter gears for example.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I actually had a 2012 F 150 Supercrew 6.5 bed with the 3.73 and 5.0 and i thought it did better on fuel in the mountains than my new 2019 F150 Supercrew 5.5 bed with 3.55 and 5.0. My 355 seems to down shift to 8 and then 7 gear where my old 2012 6 speed would just chug up the mountain in 6th gear and not down shift. Kept my motor from revving up as much which in turned saved fuel. Make Sense at all???
If it had a 5.3 you just take it back..vin on sticker and even the sticker itself says 6.2 and thats on all documents you signed....end of story.....you would be getting a new truck
I had a 2018 Silverado Redline (Black on Black). Made in Mexico. The paint began chipping and falling off within 3 months. Complained to Chevy (more times than anyone could imagine)....they did nothing. Claimed "outside influence". By 2 years old, there were well over 1000 paint chips. Other problems from day one include a horrible droaning noise from drivetrain at lower rpm cruise speeds. A recurring "service safety restraint system" notification on my dash. An exhaust rattle worse than a '74 AMC Pacer. Traded for a RAM. I drive the same roads for almost a year. Not a single paint chip in the RAM. Not a single visit to the dealer other than an oil change.
@@rockriver15 Wrong. They make a bigger V8. If you aren't satisfied with a 5.3 then get the 6.2. For most people pulling moderate sized loads for the half ton the 5.3 is more than adequate. It has a 100 horsepower more than a 350 from 20 years ago and you call it a turd. It's comparable with smaller V8 from every other manufacturer.
Great video! I just got a 2020 Silverado LT with the 2.7 turbo (not as manly as the 6.2 Trail Boss 🤣) and coming from a 2007 F150, I too was blown away with all the features of a modern truck. Love the push button on the tailgate, Apple car play, smooth quiet ride, etc...

I have A 2006 Chevy Dump Truck 3500 that hauled at least 1,000 + loads. When it wasn’t hauling a load, it was pulling a 13,000 lb trailer. Not a single MAJOR repair needed in 14 years of HEAVY WORK. Very hard for me to look at anything other than GM.
@@Pickuptrucktalk hi, Tim. I’d like to second Mr. Orozco’s request for a follow up with your friend about how his 6.2 with the ten speed has held up. I love those trucks and might choose it someday, but the GM DFM/lifter failure stuff I keep reading about concerns me
It would be nice to see you talk about the factory undercoating on Chevy Silverados and other pickups. I had a 2010 Chevy Silverados LT with 66,200 mils on it. Smelled gas took in to mu guy and he said he could not help me that the frame was so rusted out he could not put on a lift.
I've driven Toyota's, Chevy/GMC, Rams, and Ford trucks for work vehicles driving on logging roads. To put it plainly Ford F150's are superior to GM's trucks and I was a GMC guy before I saw them perform in working conditions. I've spent more time at the GM dealership getting shit fixed on my 2017 Z71 "off road". The Z71 is everything but a good off road truck. The rear view mirrors are shit, the vent valve for the gas tank malfunctions constantly which means the check engine light is constantly on nullifying the remote start feature. Ergonomics are horrible inside the cab and the dashboard feels like it's sitting on top of your lap. It doesn't feel like your in a truck at all so hopefully these new trail bosses perform better then there 2017's. I'm only watching this video because my boss mentioned buying these trucks to replace our 2017's
Dude reminds me of a corporate kinda guy. You should find a hillbilly kinda guy that's actually going to beat the hell out of it lol! Awesome video brother.
Not tracking the whole big metal antenna thing. You mean to tell me you can’t listen to am/fm on a ram??? I have a feeling the big metal antena is the cheaper way to go versus a built in antena into the window or a short stubby better looking antenna.
Just bought the 2020 LT 6.2L Trail Boss. I went with Black! Up close this truck is awesome and sharp looking; but unlike the Red, Slate or Sand Steel trucks...where the black rims compliment the truck colors...the Black truck and Black rims like mine are a bit "blobish" from a distance. IMO. Really considering aftermarket rims/tires; but I'm hoping the stock look grows on me as new tires/rims are expensive! I'm seeing 19.2mpg when maintaining speed limts and defiantly higher mpg when driving 55mph (55 is really painful tho). I agree with some of the other comments that 18" is too small; 22's would be nicer (like the High Country I think). 1st world problems I know!
Great video , excellent explanation thanks for sharing awesome images , definitely this is the truck I want to buy , just the same , I was not sure which one to get between the Toyota tundra or the Silverado trail boss , I watch the whole videos and I be going to lone star Chevrolet here in Houston,tx by hwy 290 and west rd....thank you for sharing all this information 👏👏👏🙋♂️🇺🇸🇨🇴
Not all Silverados are built in Mexico. Most are built in the US. But, most Trail Bosses seem to be coming from Mexico. Mine did. The first digit of the VIN will tell you the country where the truck was built 1 is USA and 3 is Mexico.
The 6.2 is the best engine on the market. It would be perfect except for the fact you have to burn premium fuel. Is the eco diesel now a better engine? Same fuel costs but better gas mileage.
Toyota doesn't do an Antennae either. I looked at them all an took the Tundra TRD PRO but if I would have went with the Trail Boss I would have got the 6.2 also.
Excellent video! Good job. Like that color. Really sharp. The blacked out look just suits this style rather than the chrome. Really changes the look in a good way. Regarding damped tailgate..... I agree with you guys. its no big deal but i will say this... for people that hasn't had one u dont know what u missing. It's one of those things. Regarding flip down rear headrests I'm ocd and like them for cleaning the rear window.
I've seen them on lots with leather and the split bench seat. Gm said they were bringing production back to the states. It's disappointing they're still building them in Mexico.
@@ramiroescamilla7263 Yeah, I know why they do it but it's disappointing. I looked at them at an auto show when they came out. The trucks at the show were built in the US and the salesman was selling the fact that production moved back to the US. Now they went back to Mexico is upsetting. I'm afraid I won't buy one just on principle. I don't like bait and switch.
I got a 2020 trail boss midnight edition 5.3 and I’m loving it I’m 22 have a corvette Z06 for power the truck is the daily don’t need a 6.2 for that 🤪 and if I tow the vette doesn’t weigh a lot so it would tow it easy🤙🏼 for those people that’s say the 5.3 is the wrong choice 🤷🏻♂️ “you should of got a 6.2”
Either would pull the trailer just fine. Diesel will have better MPG, but diesel fuel costs more at the moment. The 6.2L requires premium fuel for maximum performance, so not a lot of cost difference.
@@Pickuptrucktalk Thank you for the reply. I'm in Ohio and 93 is averaging $4.15/gallon and Diesel is about $4.30 -$4.45, so diesel is a little more but kind of a wash.
@@domin8ss definitely not a bad way to go you can definitely save on taxes depending on your state if you have it installed at the dealership as part of the deal. The important part is that you as an owner understand that that motor needs to be heard LOL
I believe the high performance GM exhaust is Borla cat-back touring. I had a Stinger cat-back installed on my 2017 Silverado LTZ. It seems to make the motor come alive.
I have a 2020 AT4 6.2L and it has a Borla ATAK catback. Runs awesome and sounds like a a truck. Just waiting on my S&B CAI that’s been on back order for over 2 months
You are wrong about the EPA fuel economy ratings for the Trail Boss. Go to the EPA's website and you'll see each trim of the Silverado has been rated separately. The 15/19 on the sticker for that Trail Boss is accurate. Btw, I have a 2020 Trail Boss with the 6.2, and added GM's intake and exhaust. I went for a drive around the back roads of southeastern Virginia. My truck says I average 21.5 mpg.
@@Pickuptrucktalk we're all human and make mistakes. Btw, I'm currently doing a cross country trek. Earlier today I left Asheville, NC and drove to Memphis, TN. I-40 the entire way. The fuel economy numbers on my truck are currently showing a best of 23.1 mpg. I'm not being light on it either. I anyways at cruise at 8 mph above the post limit. The posted limit was 70 most of the way, so i was doing 78. If I'm understanding how this trip reads fuel economy, "Best" is for the best mpg the truck achieved during a continuous 50 miles, and "Average" is the fuel economy during the most recent 50 miles.
Yeah, you can kind of tell I went down that rabbit hole then backtracked. I didn't have the facts in front of me, so I didn't want to make a definitive statement that I would have to take back. I agree I think GM does it now thinking about it again without the video camera pressure. It is something that needs to be published though, making people aware of who is accurately reporting numbers and who isn't.
My 2002 Silverado 5.3 made it to 329,560 miles this June. Never smoked, it was going through a quart of oil between oil changes this past year. It was still running when I sold it.
had great luck with my 2016 GMC Sierra (5.3) not one issue, comfort and power was great, just hated the AFM and the problems many seemed to say was coming 70 to 80 K, got the whole vehicle oiled every year to help with rust and it was still rusting from the inside out, went back to Tundra , not as comfortable way more power anticipated reliability , mpg is better than what used to be in the older models, one complaint, they removed the friggin tranny cooler ! i was so pissed to hear this. rumors that they are going to put it back in. I was hoping to have bought a vehicle with known reliability/durability and nothing meets that mark anymore. Love the truck and want to keep it as long as possible but who knows. def wouldn't go Ford or Ram, junk
I agree the Team has the nicer interior, but I have found the new Silverado to be practical. I prefer practical. There's a lot of redundancy built into it on the Chevy. Should the 8" screen you still have options for working the radio, ac, phone, etc.
@@Pickuptrucktalk being that you review trucks frequently, I assume you have Driven a 5.3 with the 8 or 10 speed? I have, I work for a dealership and frequently drive Demos and own a 5.3L Trail Boss. The 5.3L with the 8 or 10 speed is not slow at all, it's a night and day difference from the old 6 speed. The extra ratios make a world of difference. The 6.2 certainly is faster, but I don't feel it's needed to have fun. The 5.3L trail boss does a low 6 second 0-60.
Terrence Jones yes, I’ve driven both. The 5.3L is certainly a great engine and it is a good choice for most buyers. I know plenty of people who own a Silverado with that engine and are really happy. I just pushed him to the 6.2L with his towing needs especially climbing around the Black Hills area. The extra power will make him happier I think and the fuel economy “penalty” for going with the larger gas engine just isn’t as much as it used to be thanks to the 10 speed.
@@Pickuptrucktalk yes that's true the fuel economy disparity isn't as bad as it used to be. I get roughly 2 mpg average better than a co worker whom has a 6.2, both purchased around the same time. I'd suggest to that the owner in this video make sure he runs premium fuel , especially when towing .

Just got a 2020 Silverado High Country 6.2 L. coming from a 2017 F150... Ford is great however, this Chevy is phenomenal. Performance, handling especially when you put it into Sport Mode. Great investment,
Which engine did u have n the 2017 f 150?
Good observation on payload. Thanks.
If gm gets rid of the cylinder deactivation and painted the frame it'd be perfect.
That front end has grown on me!!! Can wait to get mine two years later when I purchased it pre-own can’t afford it now 😞
Lease it then buy it at at the end of lease...

60k is a ridiculous amount to pay for a vehicle that's gonna break down/be worth 40% of that price by the time the loan is paid off 😂

Reason I buy pre-own truck are ridiculous expensive
Same, I always buy about 3 year old vehicles, usually coming off lease.
I just bought that same truck yesterday. The 6.2 is a beast! Mine has the sensors.
Great review! Im picking up my 2021Trail Boss LT 6.2L Midnight Edition next week. I also pull my travel trailer with this truck.
That antenna is also useful if you're going into a parking garage with a low clearance. If that antenna hits the bar you probably need to back outta there
Great point!
I cant wait to buy a 6.2L at4
Silverado is much faster I have 2020 6.2 TB and consistently get 6.1 sec. to 60 which is fast for a truck this BIG . Blows the doors off a 6.2 AT4 that my neighbor has

@chris brown, got a 2020 AT4 6.2L! You will love this truck and it’s an upgrade from the trail boss . Both are nice trucks though

That satin steel metallic is my new fav color. Wish I would’ve bought it
Truck is amazing. I just bought one myself. Also I like this guy that bought the truck. He seems very comfortable on camera. Seems like a guy you could just grab a beer with and BS about trucks!
Yup. Good guy for sure.
those are the best tires ever.
Nice truck. I'm not surprised he picked it over the Tundra. Can't believe he bought it and never looked under the hood. He could have bought 5.3 and never know it....
LOL. Yep, he could have in fact had a 5.3L if he didn't pop the hood. I'm not surprised. I know a lot of new truck owners who don't pop the hood.
Love the look of the trail boss
While you were correct about the EPA fuel economy, GM does separate out the Trail Boss/ AT4 for fuel economy rating.
I have the same truck, but with a 5.3L
I have a 5.3 V8 Silverado 2015. Nice looking but over priced with cheaply made parts
@@Blacklion023 Over priced based on what? They are comparable with any other brand.
lyman135 Lmao exactly. Just someone finding anything to bitch about
The 5.3 is a turd gm and there behind the times

Chevrolet bundles the parking sensors with blind spot monitoring in a package, which is a bit dumb.
The only downside of 6.2L is using premium gas. That was the only reason I went with 5.3L.
I was about to ask this question, thanks
I love the black rims, GM should of put black bolts inside the tires. Not those shiny silver ones. Also the exhaust tips can use some black shading

Absolutely I agree with you, I have a 2015 and a 2000 Silverado both 2500s and those trucks only know a load and have been absolutely bullet proof.

I have a 2020 ford raptor fully loaded and it also has the long antenna just saying
They break in as well....both my 1500 and 2500 got bit more comfy after cpl thousand miles.....everything is stiff and tight when brand new
Dude reminds me of a corporate kinda guy.

You can still listen to AM/FM in a Ram. Reception is better in the boonies with the GM. That’s what I’m saying.
Unnecessary for someone like me, but I want it
Built in Mexico... *Scotty disapproved*
😂 no it's not lmao!
4:10 I would take a camera over sensors any day, and if given the option i would never have sensors again
Is the tailgate hands free if you have to use your hands to reach into your pocket and push a button?
If the tailgate is locked, then yes, you have to push a button on the key fob. If unlocked, you just press the button on the tailgate.

Normal.
I agree love dammed tail gates have. 2015 Titan and my wife likes it to compare to the 07 GMC that didn’t have it

Anything about reliability regarding the 2.7 four cylinder engine?
Nothing bad so far.
I've seen them on lots with leather and the split bench seat. Gm said they were bringing production back to the states. It's disappointing they're still building them in Mexico.

Yeah, I know why they do it but it's disappointing. I looked at them at an auto show when they came out. The trucks at the show were built in the US and the salesman was selling the fact that production moved back to the US. Now they went back to Mexico is upsetting. I'm afraid I won't buy one just on principle. I don't like bait and switch.

I like GMC AT4 over Trailboss. Little more money but more tech.
The at4 is more classy and the trailboss is a little more sportier imo
So if you were towing a trailer let's say 7,000 lbs, would you go 6.2 or 3.0 Duramax?

The posted limit was 70 most of the way, so i was doing 78. If I'm understanding how this trip reads fuel economy, "Best" is for the best mpg the truck achieved during a continuous 50 miles, and "Average" is the fuel economy during the most recent 50 miles.
Connor Hendricks thanks for understanding, I think that’s a great fuel economy number for a truck!
@@Pickuptrucktalk not just for a truck, but a Trail boss with the 6.2. I was a bit surprised myself.

That interior leaves so much to be desired
I agree the Team has the nicer interior, but I have found the new Silverado to be practical. I prefer practical. There's a lot of redundancy built into it on the Chevy. Should the 8" screen you still have options for working the radio, ac, phone, etc.
Wait a year or 2 for the new Silverado interior design
Great review. Thank you!

Tim. The 5.3L in a Trail boss has a higher towing capacity than the 6.2 , by 100lbs.
Interesting. I wasn't so worried about towing capacity, I was really more thinking about pulling power. The 6.2L just has more power than the 5.3L.
