I get bored driving automatic. And driving manual is a skill, and most likely has youngsters engage in their car more rather than being on the cell phone and driving at the same time. Fewer sleepy heads falling asleep on the road since they are more engaged. Just my 2 cents.

As a european that is used to manuals I can assure you that's just not true. In my country (Spain), the vast majority of cars are manual. The most common cause of accident is distractions while driving, ahead of exceeding the speed limits or DUI. Once you're use to drive in manual, it's pretty easy and you don't need to pay too much attention to the road.

I don’t care if the automatic shifts faster. I buy a sports car for how it makes me feel, and nothing compares to the control you have over the car with a manual transmission. If your plan is to drag the car all the time at the track, buy the automatic.

If your a true muscle car enthusiast especially from the past the 60's & 70's. You know the real & true muscle car is manual. Some people prefer the automatic for those reasons of convenience automatics are fine. You have to shift a real muscle car it's apart of the essence of what a muscle car is.

@@Batman-D, back in the '60s and '70s, no true muscle car would sacrifice any of it's horsepower to the automatic transmission's torque converter if it could be helped. ( They weren't very efficient back then. )
A 4-speed manual was a requirement for any car guy/girl with 2 working legs.
So basically, a car with an auto was considered a 'granny-wagon' as a rule.
( See my comment on the '73 Torino with the column-shift auto, elsewhere here. That particular car was most certainly NOT a muscle car. )( It could'a been though, with a few minor changes. )

Engines with MDS (4 cyl deactivation mode) need a rebuild on average 2-3x sooner than one without. Buying a manual will save you that hassle later on in the cars life. Also, the reason you couldn't get the Dodge Demon with a manual had nothing to do with track times, it was because the TransBrake dodge made was only compatible with their automatic transmissions. But the gas mileage suck, specially after I lowered it with 315 back 275 front aftermarket wheels. I’m getting, I checked today and dash shows average 7.5 miles per gallon. But then again I always have my sport mode on with traction control off. I mean always rain or shine . Soon as I get in the car I hit the ignition then sport mode then traction off . @@arthurchalle4124 actually if you want to kick up the throttle response go and buy a Pedal Commander. I have a 17 Challenger T/A 5.7L 6spd. I also have the Z automotive Tazer and I bought the 3 buttons for the pod on the right side of the steering wheel where there is a three-button wide cover panel. I have the Tazer set to start the car in sport mode always so all I have to do is hold the traction control button for 6 seconds and if the oil pressure is low enough away I go. The Pedal Commander has taken my average MPGs from 15.7 to 18.9 since the beginning of 2019. As far as the fuel economy my average fuel economy has not been reset since approximately 11:30 a.m. August 22, 2017. So benefits are when you want the extra punch in the throttle the commander gives it to you when you want higher fuel economy you don't have to push on the accelerator like you do in Factory sport mode. The benefit of the taser is you don't have to spend any extra time when the car is already warm putting into sport mode because it already starts that way. Between the two of them it was an extra $570 but those, mainly the Pedal Commander are already starting to pay for themselves. Now the three buttons I bought for the dummy pod on the right side, well it's not a dummy pod it's just covered, I am able to use those for other functions controlled by the Tazer and due to the taser being installed you can also remap your sport button to be used for something else. Mine from left to right are set up to be line lock, physical sport mode button because the car comes out of sport mode when you let off line lock, and the last one is for the engine cool down mode that the Tazer offers.

Now, I love my stick, I’ve used a stick for daily for the last year and I honestly want the auto challenger, but that’s because I’m looking for a nice daily that I can use all year round, and for me that means snow as well, and the auto in the snow is so much nicer then the manual, I don’t think I could use the car in the snow with a manual, also the throw and feel between 4th and 5th on the new challengers is really odd and can be easily messed up, and for a car I want to use daily I want it to be reliable, having to replace a clutch is expensive and when it’s going out is gonna suck to drive. I love the manuals but i would only want the manual if i rarely drove the car. Lastly tho, I would want the auto because I still have the option to making it a manual-ish shift and you’ll have 8 gears to climb apposed to 6 and it just a lot of fun. All in all I love this car because stick or auto,v8 or v6 the car is nice and really give a feel to the driver that’s uncanny to any other car made today that don’t cost 60k or more, well done dodge

in new manuals they lock you out of reverse unless you pull up on the stick. my advice every time will be test drive both and see what you like better. learning with a manual in a big city is extremely difficult btw especially if its hilly. to be real with you don't get a 392 before your finished with school you're gonna end up working to barely make payments, insurance is gonna run your shit and your not gonna be able to drive it how you want because gas and brakes aren't cheap on a 4100 lbs v8. finish school, get a fulltime job and get your credit up then buy one. I saw two of my friends get a 5.7 when they were 16 and they didn't even have time to enjoy the car because they were working so much to afford it and that's a 5.7. also just to be honest your gonna have to be careful with a 392 because if you at fault crash you're fucked your insurance is gonna x4 and your gonna lose a shit ton of resale. after that affording a 2002 civic is gonna be hard. im not tryna crush your dreams but sometimes dreams gotta wait a bit longer or theyll ruin you tryna keep up with them.

I've owned 2 Mustang GTs, 2 Challenger RT's and a 2018 Challenger Scat Pack... All manual. Been driving manual for the last 20 plus years. I finally decided to give the automatic transmission a chance, in my new 2021 Scat Pack WB. I am hating life every time I drive the damn car. I love how it looks, but the driving experience sucks!... Cant wait to trade it in for a new M6. OBTW, I've never met anybody who bought a Challenger to "save a little bit of gas".

Now i bought a Challenger R/T with automatic gearbox. It is just much more comfortable. And that's it. In every other way manual is much better. But I don't care, I will use it as a daily driving car, so it must be comfortable.

Here’s my take on all this.. traction is everything I don’t care if you have a six speed or an automatic if I hook up in my six speed and you have no traction in your automatic I’m going to beat ya . So when people say the automatics faster yeah in a perfect world if both cars hook and maybe by a couple of tenths of a sec. as far as the fuel economy goes a friend of mine has an automatic 392 and drives like a bat out of hell and I can tell you I get better gas mileage with my stick it all depends on how you drive the car period. As far as a fun factor goes the six speed outweighs the automatic big time I will agree if it’s your daily driver an automatic is better. My 392 is not my daily driver. Also a automatic is more likely to be stolen then a six speed you’d be surprised how many thieves can’t drive a stick.

Forgot the haters. Almost all the reasons you list are exactly why I want the auto. People who only want the manual already know what they want and there's no convincing them. If I ever get another stick, I'll save it for a classic car
I had 2 cars with sticks for years, I got rid of both and got an auto, and I just don't want to go back. Sure, when you drive a stick it becomes 2nd nature, you don't even think about it, but when you go back to auto, some of us just enjoy the relaxation of it. I still go for the clutch & stick all the time in automatics, it's still 2nd nature, but it's much more relaxing without it
And driving a stick in San Francisco can be fun, for about 5 minutes, then you wish it was an automatic...
Plus, I can let people drive an auto without worrying about how well they can drive a stick (*some* people in *some* situations of course...)

The 15.2 is because of only city driving. Back when I used this as a daily driver I was getting around 19 or 20 if not more. The higher gear ratios allow for better fuel efficiency. This is primarily witnessed at higher speeds when you are in 6 or 7 gear. A manual doesn't have 8 gears so naturally you went get the same efficiency.

Same reasons apply to 6th gen Camaro SS. I can add a 9th: torque converters are covered under warranty, clutches are not...
Also glad you pointed out that paddles work with or without manual mode. I drive with my left hand ready at the paddle for a quick downshift when needed. Also, does the challenger shift down to the lowest gear it can tolerate, when you hold the left paddle (or hold shifter in "-") for over 1 sec?
I also envy Mopar owners because your shifter goes foreward to downshift, and back to upshift, in BMW style. Even though I've never owned a BMW, I feel that's the way it should be. Seems more natural to pull back when it throws you back in your seat... Maybe there's a conversion kit?

    • @SchwayZ

To my understanding if you put the shifter in manual mode it will not shift up for you if you are at redline. There is another issue, the $1000 gas guzzler tax on the manual. The Automatic option is $1595. When you select the automatic then the guzzler tax is removed. So the auto really is a $595 upgrade. This applies to the SCAT PACK. But when comparing for a R/T car the trans is a $1595 cost as the guzzler tax does not apply to the 5.7L motor.
So really depends on which car R/T or R/T Scat Pack.
Hellcats auto is more money, and you also have the gas guzzler tax as well.

The fuel efficiency argument is totally bogus!

It's not. Look it up on Dodge's website. The MDS engine only comes paired with the automatic transmission.

Well you probably would have had more fun with the manual. You can shift sooner and skip gears in a manual. Use to do that back in the late 70's with a 4 speed. Wonder why the manual is rated at better fuel economy?

i would love a 392 scatpack widebody auto or manual but im in Australia have you seen the ridiculous price they want to get it here and converted to RH drive .. close to 200k for the hellcat.. also can you get the double nose scoup on the scatpack?? ... some one send me one :)

Sorry for the late reply lol but darn that’s a lot of money... does that make the scatpack over 100k?

Has anyone else noticed that their 8 speed shifts a little "hokey" for lack of a better word? (2019 RT) If I am on it fairly hard taking off it shifts fine, but under normal acceleration think "Granny Mode", it sort of shifts unevenly and a little hard. It is kind of hard to explain, it just isn't a smooth transition, it feels like the transmission is confused and shifts at odd times. Get on the gas, no problem. I don't really know what to tell the Dealer as it is hard to explain and I figure they will just tell me it's normal. (In sport mode it shifts great both at cruising and hard acceleration)

2016 Challenger Scat Pack manual - Yes ,you gotta activate sport mode so its lauder and more of popcorn -normal mode is quitter

I just bought a used 2016 scat pack shaker. Test drive the 6 speed and auto. I ultimately bought one with the auto so my wife could drive it.

    9. 1st gear in the auto feels much more aggressive on this car.
    10. Drive modes on the auto are more meaningful.
    11. Cruise and adaptive cruise control.
    12. Launch control is less hard on the system on the auto.
    13. Easier for valet to drive without damaging it.
    14. Its easier for your friend to drive when you're tired on a long roadtrip.

The manual can launch much harder and faster than the auto.
The manual doesn't have trans drive modes, it just all the power all the time.
The manual has cruise and adaptive cruise.

As far a valet....no real car guy lets a stranger dive his pride and joy

    • @sctm81
      @sctm81 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@This_Guy1 lol, do you actually have the car?! The 1st gear ratio in the auto is MUCH more aggressive. That's also one of the reasons why it wins in the 1/4 mile. You can look up that gear ratio if you dont believe me.
Well, some hotels require you to valet. The valet mode at 100hp will discourage them from doing anything stupid or misjudging the gas pedal as it will start in 2nd.

I do agree with you the challenger and charger are a better choice in Auto i do believe its application specific. Charger only comes Auto obviously but for these platforms are definitely better going the Auto route.

I think a manual would be fun on a weekend sports car but if it’s your daily go with an automatic.

I am curious however if,in your opinion , there is something that the manual transmission is significantly better than the automatic
    Thanks

Depending on if you enjoy driving manuals and the engagement that you have with the car then thats what would make a manual better

    • @This_Guy1
      @This_Guy1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I get 16-25MPG in my 2020 ScatPack Widebody 6speed. MDS/cylinder deactivation is absolutely killing motorrs after the 75k mile mark. The auto trans is much less reliable than the manual. The manual trans version sounds way better to. Yes the clutch might go out at 100k miles as can the torque converter in autos, only difference is the manual trans is more durable. So all in all the manual is more reliable, more fun to drive, sounds better and gets the same gas mileage. The only benefits of the auto is convenience and slightly faster on acceleration.

Plus if someone happens to steal your car most likely they won't know how to drive a manuel.Even at valet parking many people working this sort of job don't know how to drive a manuel and every vehicle with manual has a different feel to it as far as the tightness or sensitivity of the clutch when it starts engaging.. Many new drivers who learned to drive manual make a mistake of giving it too much gas as the slowly release the clutch. This over time will burn your clutch out...But I belive Manuel give the driver more control. Bad breaks in an emergency down shift for example. Kalif🌙

I don't think I trust that cylinder deactivation stuff it's still relatively new. The early adoptors show uneven wear and just lots of issues.
