I have never raised a baby pigeon but iv been caring for a very young feral pigeon who still sqeaks when been fed but shes actually got PMV and iv had her 2 weeks and omg she absolutely loves to cuddle me and sit with her eyes in line with my eyes while cuddling and she absolutely loves to sit on my shoulder, and yes she has pooped on me a few times but i still love her.. i still can’t believe how tame she’s become in just 2 weeks.. i do spend most of my days with her so maybe thats why she’s become so tame so quickly and the fact shes very very young.. Hi, I'm in the same dilemma. Our gardener trimmed/cut the tree in my garden and two eggs were in the nest. Obviously the mother pigeon didn't return. I don't know what to do. Any advice will do. At moment I have the nest on top of a warm water bottle in the house. I'm not quite sure how I will feed it if it hatches, but I've seen on ebay feed for parrots (Hari Tropican Hand Feeding Formula Baby Parrot Bird Food Daily Nutrition Growth). Will this be ok?
Thank you so much. I found a dying baby pigeon, about 2 weeks old, 2 days ago and didn't know how to feed it (also I was afraid of it biting me as it tried to before). Playing my guitar for it softly before feeding helped, and I handfed it like you did. It ate about 20 pre-cooked peas, after 48 hours of barely eating and drinking.
You don't need to worry about pigeons biting you, they have a very weak biting power, they're seed eaters so they don't ever have the need to rip meat off from any animal. You can easily feed it from your hands, once it gets older and learns to eat by himself and you will barely even feel the pecking.
I love the way squabs use one or other wing to direct you to feed them or assert that "we need food!" Always made me smile. I've raised a few now and they're nothing but a pleasure to raise. The pure feeling of happy you get when they flutter the wings just by seeing you is a joy at any time... THough the poo is another story lol.... That said, we can deal with that :-) Your lil squab is quite a live wire hah I love it 🙂 I'm just about to hatch another abandoned one, so will share with you (PM) to share the love 🙂
Lovely, Thanks for sharing I was always curious about this, 30 yrs back when I used have pigeon's, I used to hold the grains in my fist, allow the chick to poke it's break thru my fingers(Between the thumb and index), automatically it will open its beak because of its instinct, then let go of the seeds few at a time by raising your fist above it's head. It seems natural to me, just like their parents do. Your method is also good 👍
Hi there: I found a baby pigeon on my farm. Ive been feeding him baby parrot food by a baby-bird syringe with an attachment with a point on it. I bought it on Amazon. I didnt know what kind of bird it was until I found your video. He makes the same sounds as your bird and has the same bumps on his beak. Lolol. My baby bird is soooo attached to me. He will scream constantly that sound if he is not on my lap with my hand near-by. I thought pigeons make a "cooing" sound but now I know from your video. He heard the baby in your video and for the first time he wasnt all over my hand but started to preen himself. His eyes are blue with a black pupil. His feathers are all black. Many times he falls asleep wrapped up like a 'burrito' in a cloth napkin and sleeps on my lap. He loved being wrapped. But now Im noticing he gets out of it and likes to lay on it on my lap. Recently he crawls up to my neck and pecks my neck. I think its time to move him to more substantial food. He is just too cute and actually very jealous if I dont give him my full attention. Lolol. Thank you for your video. Im going to continue feeding him baby parrot food by syringe and move him onto black-oil sunflower seeds which is what his flock eats on my farm.
Hi! We live in Santa Barbara, California and rescued a baby pigeon 3 days ago…3 crows were pecking at him on the side of the road and I pulled over and brought him hime in a blanket. He is not harmed💖My husband has a lot of experience with wildlife and together we have raised and saved an Oriole, Robin and Dove but not a pigeon until now🤗He looks like the one in your video here, maybe a little younger but not much. So thankful to find your site, very helpful and we have followed your feeding of peas and water and he or she is doing great so far. How can we learn more moving forward? Like what exact bed for him (what is the material in your bowl, and more on food, feeding, everything! I'll found a baby pigeon around 2 weeks ago looks like same age i fed her or him peas and she started to eat seeds on her own she caught on pretty fast. Thank you for this video for future reference when i find another one . I do have a pet pigeon that wanted nothing to do with the baby and regected it. I didn't know if i was feeding him right so i gave him to wildlife rehab. Thanks again for your information and help

I have been advised to - obviously - take it to rehab fro treatments to it's wound. Some pencicilin init-biotics for example. I have also been advised to feed it with:

Nice video, Found this video because a have a small balcony, a pidgeon nested there and now has two chicks. They seem to recognize me and realise I'm not a threat :) The chicks seem very healthy and are doing well. Did wonder about feeding them, but they all seem to be doing well so not going to interfere.
@@meowcats2314 I had no issue with pigeons in the past. Unfortunately I have lived with feral pigeons on my roof all day every day, for three years. They have increased significantly in number due to no action to control them. They wake us up at 5:30 every morning with their scratching and banging on the skylights and won't settle until late at night. In the afternoon they try to settle and make so much noise we can't hear the TV. We get feathers in the house and there is so much pigeon droppings, egg shells and sometimes dead birds in the common area (can you imagine the smell?). Keep them as pets but something needs to be done about the feral birds. You couldn't understand why people say they are dirty, this is my personal experience with them.

Does feeding continue through the night How many feedings per day? Is your syringe 10ml? Can I let this youngster engage with other pigeons when the are feeding to encourage feeding behaviour? In my balcony there was some furniture work going on. Within woods a pigeon laid eggs and two babies hatched. Now the workers moved the two babies in a box to a slightly different location. Will the mother abandon the babies?

Oh and something funny I noticed is that as my hands are dry and rather rugged thanks to work, I used a rather soft makeup brush (blush, or a camera lense brish will do)... If you gently rib the squab behind the nech where it quite can't reach its pin feathers where the curve of the neck meets the body at the back.. You'll have a friend for life.... Last one I raised... It got to a point that she wouldn't settle down after feeding at 20:00 till I gave her the "required" neck tickle... Such a funny little creature, btu oh so loving 🙂
Can I ask though, when it comes to feeding a sqab just a bit younger than that age, when theyre still on hand feeding mix (crop milk alternative)... They tend to "not breathe" when shoving their head into the bottle feeder I have... SHoudl I leave them to stop when they feel safe to stop or shoudl I carry on with my 3 second rule that if they take no breath after 3 seconds, sorry I'm taking it away for a min or so for them to calm down?
I hand raised a pigeon and he is now 2 months old. He eats no seeds but still the nutribird A19. He pecks the seeds but can't hold them in his mouth and cant swallow them. If I put the seeds in his mouth myself and he swallows, he vomits after a few hours or the day after and the seeds are not digested. I don't know what the problem is, why he can't eat by himself, why he vomits and why the seeds are not digested!! Do you have any advice for me please? I'm having a really hard time with him.
Nice to see the squab looking super lively and healthy🥰🙃! I don't like taking squabs from their parents apart from when you have to also, it just seems like unnecessary work and effort . This season I had to hand raise a Birmingham Roller squab bc the parents weren't feeding him enough, his toes began to curl slightly so as soon as i noticed that i took him and hand raised him. It hasn't affected him one bit hes one of my best spinners bred off of this seasons young birds🤩! I have used a couple different methods when hand rearing young birds like syringe feeding and bottle feeding. I did also try this method but i was only using smallish sized seed so i found it super fiddly. I think it was taking me almost 40 mins to fully fill up the squab per feeding👎😅. I found bottle feeding was the easiest as the squab will do all the work ! 😂 Keep up the great content Maney!❤️

I have a what I think is an easier way. So get Katie exact hand feeding formula just buy the big bags and make sure it’s the one with omega-3 and I have raised pigeons from forms eggs and they are nice and tame. And you don’t need to add anything but water
I too have kaytee bt my baby is nt taking it i just got her ystrday.. i assume shes a bit afraid or mayne nt used by her parents dat way maybe it might take some time so for nw i hav to handfeed by soaking seeds
I've had a pigeon's toes curl, I was using a syringe to feed him and turned out I wasn't mixing in enough of the formula and it was mostly water. When I found out that it wasn't enough it was too late. :(

I just had to save the baby from the pigeon busters cleaning folks that came this morning. I was so worried bc I knew they would care about the chick. So I was ready to take it home, but I found a fb group for pigeons and contacted someone in my city (San Francisco) from wildcare and took to care for. Whew, that was a close call and I had made arrangements with an animal care place, but when I called again, they said they wouldn’t take it. They told me in California it’s against the law to tamper with nest and chicks. I said to myself I’m not going to take any chances and glad I found this other animal center that was happy to take it. The only sad is one of the parents hangout near where the nest is and the other parent I haven’t seen since the chock was taken away.
It’s amazing how tame and I afraid of human at this age. The 4 adults I feed at my work, none I have touched or fed from my hand, but when I make whip who sounds, they come bc they know it’s feeding time, one of the parents of the chick was a chick and saw it grow up. These pigeons need love bc in a concrete modern city, not many wheat and berry plants for then to feed from. They’re a man that feeds these sparrow like birds and they get all over him and it’s amazing to see. I guess birds get a certain vibe from someone and know the friendly humans. I mean I could have food for them and stand there all days and no birds will feed on my body.
Also, how do you tell the male and female pigeons? I figured the black one was female and the gray and black one was male. I also see these 2 pigeon and they both are the same gray color but I think they’ve had babies and a couple.
I did what you would never do. I took a two to three days old baby pigeon from it's mother who was laying on her baby and her egg and had her nest on my flowerpot. In the begining, I thought she was laying on my flowerpot alone and then I took my broom to chase her. I scared her and she flew away. To my surprise, I saw the egg and the nestling on the flowerpot. I didn't do anything, I was waiting for an hour the mother to come back and let her be on my flowerpot, but she didn't came back, so I took the egg and the nestling and I put them on a box because it was cold outside and I was afraid they mighy die. I saw the egg throught a flashlight and I saw that it wasn't any sign of life inside it, so I boiled the egg with another egg that I had on my fridge, I smashed them and feeded it to the nestling with a syringe. That was it. I loved it. After that, I bought a hand feed bird food and I'm feeding it 6 times per day. She or he is 12 days old and still growing up! 🤗😊 I schedule for vacations, but I'm thinking to cancel my vacations to feed my baby pigeon. She has small feathers and recognise the process to feed her. She is opening her mouth without be force to open it in order to put in her mouth the food with the syringe. When there is the food time, she flutters and screams like crazy. She is cheerful baby pigeon and this a sign of good health, right? I am watching youtube videos to learn about pigeons. I hope I will breed her and some day will laying on my shoulder like a pet parrot. 😊 Of course, I know someday that I will have to free her, but when she will visiting me, I always will have a bowl with seeds on my balcony.
Any pigeons that have been bitten eith a cat need treatment NOW, cats mouth teeth carries toxins that can kill pigeons if not treated with antibiotics ASAP.. Xx

I've been doing this method since I was 10 yrs old. I'm 58 now. Very effective. Nice video my brother.

young bird feed, pigeon corn, sea shell grit, red or black minerals.
I have been giving her (that’s what I call her) formula and blended peas and she loves it. She has her feathers finally
You can go to normal seeds after 10 days, now you have the feathers thry should be fine without looking at it.

Last one I raised... It got to a point that she wouldn't settle down after feeding at 20:00 till I gave her the "required" neck tickle... Such a funny little creature, btu oh so loving 🙂
Can I ask though, when it comes to feeding a sqab just a bit younger than that age, when theyre still on hand feeding mix (crop milk alternative)... They tend to "not breathe" when shoving their head into the bottle feeder I have... SHoudl I leave them to stop when they feel safe to stop or shoudl I carry on with my 3 second rule that if they take no breath after 3 seconds, sorry I'm taking it away for a min or so for them to calm down?
I hand raised a pigeon and he is now 2 months old. He eats no seeds but still the nutribird A19. He pecks the seeds but can't hold them in his mouth and cant swallow them. If I put the seeds in his mouth myself and he swallows, he vomits after a few hours or the day after and the seeds are not digested. I don't know what the problem is, why he can't eat by himself, why he vomits and why the seeds are not digested!! Do you have any advice for me please? I'm having a really hard time with him.

Nice to see the squab looking super lively and healthy🥰🙃! I don't like taking squabs from their parents apart from when you have to also, it just seems like unnecessary work and effort . This season I had to hand raise a Birmingham Roller squab bc the parents weren't feeding him enough, his toes began to curl slightly so as soon as i noticed that i took him and hand raised him. It hasn't affected him one bit hes one of my best spinners bred off of this seasons young birds🤩! I have used a couple different methods when hand rearing young birds like syringe feeding and bottle feeding. I did also try this method but i was only using smallish sized seed so i found it super fiddly. I think it was taking me almost 40 mins to fully fill up the squab per feeding👎😅. I found bottle feeding was the easiest as the squab will do all the work ! 😂 Keep up the great content Maney!❤️

I have a 3 week old pigeon baby and he flaps only one wing. I looked closer and it seems the wing which he doesn't flap much has thicker muscle around bone. Is he not gonna fly?

Hi it's Renato here can you answer a question I have a fledging pigeon but his very skinny and week so I give him avi plus hand rearing for parrots but he crop was still full so I fed once more so will he digest his food or is it cause he's to weak will the crop empty over night thanks much appreciated.

I have a what I think is an easier way. So get Katie exact hand feeding formula just buy the big bags and make sure it’s the one with omega-3 and I have raised pigeons from forms eggs and they are nice and tame. And you don’t need to add anything but water
I too have kaytee bt my baby is nt taking it i just got her ystrday.. i assume shes a bit afraid or mayne nt used by her parents dat way maybe it might take some time so for nw i hav to handfeed by soaking seeds

I've had a pigeon's toes curl, I was using a syringe to feed him and turned out I wasn't mixing in enough of the formula and it was mostly water. When I found out that it wasn't enough it was too late. :(

I just had to save the baby from the pigeon busters cleaning folks that came this morning. I was so worried bc I knew they would care about the chick. So I was ready to take it home, but I found a fb group for pigeons and contacted someone in my city (San Francisco) from wildcare and took to care for. Whew, that was a close call and I had made arrangements with an animal care place, but when I called again, they said they wouldn’t take it. They told me in California it’s against the law to tamper with nest and chicks. I said to myself I’m not going to take any chances and glad I found this other animal center that was happy to take it.
The only sad is one of the parents hangout near where the nest is and the other parent I haven’t seen since the chock was taken away.
It’s amazing how tame and I afraid of human at this age. The 4 adults I feed at my work, none I have touched or fed from my hand, but when I make whip who sounds, they come bc they know it’s feeding time, one of the parents of the chick was a chick and saw it grow up.
These pigeons need love bc in a concrete modern city, not many wheat and berry plants for then to feed from.
They’re a man that feeds these sparrow like birds and they get all over him and it’s amazing to see. I guess birds get a certain vibe from someone and know the friendly humans. I mean I could have food for them and stand there all days and no birds will feed on my body.
Also, how do you tell the male and female pigeons? I figured the black one was female and the gray and black one was male. I also see these 2 pigeon and they both are the same gray color but I think they’ve had babies and a couple.

I did what you would never do. I took a two to three days old baby pigeon from it's mother who was laying on her baby and her egg and had her nest on my flowerpot. In the begining, I thought she was laying on my flowerpot alone and then I took my broom to chase her. I scared her and she flew away. To my surprise, I saw the egg and the nestling on the flowerpot. I didn't do anything, I was waiting for an hour the mother to come back and let her be on my flowerpot, but she didn't came back, so I took the egg and the nestling and I put them on a box because it was cold outside and I was afraid they mighy die. I saw the egg throught a flashlight and I saw that it wasn't any sign of life inside it, so I boiled the egg with another egg that I had on my fridge, I smashed them and feeded it to the nestling with a syringe. That was it. I loved it. After that, I bought a hand feed bird food and I'm feeding it 6 times per day. She or he is 12 days old and still growing up! 🤗😊 I schedule for vacations, but I'm thinking to cancel my vacations to feed my baby pigeon. She has small feathers and recognise the process to feed her. She is opening her mouth without be force to open it in order to put in her mouth the food with the syringe. When there is the food time, she flutters and screams like crazy. She is cheerful baby pigeon and this a sign of good health, right? I am watching youtube videos to learn about pigeons. I hope I will breed her and some day will laying on my shoulder like a pet parrot. 😊 Of course, I know someday that I will have to free her, but when she will visiting me, I always will have a bowl with seeds on my balcony.

Any pigeons that have been bitten eith a cat need treatment NOW, cats mouth teeth carries toxins that can kill pigeons if not treated with antibiotics ASAP.. Xx
