    *I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*

    Great job with your system. I'm definitely inspired. I've been a fan of home automation for many years and considered the X10 but I knew as soon as I got it, the next big thing would come. I think your integration of systems is awesome. I looking forward to seeing more of your work, thanks

      hahah I still have x10 in my house! I got into that back in the day as well when it was all there really was for home automation. Had it controlling lights and have kept it around for 3 lights in my main floor. But I've been wanting to get cut over to smart things for a loooong time now. I just finally purchased my hubv2 this weekend! I only have a 3pack of Sylvania bulbs to go along with it but plan to start purchaging things little by little and eventually will be decking out the house like yours! One reason I was waiting on smarthings was for it to work with the caseta dimmer switches from Lutron. They finally got it working with them so I'm all on board now! can't wait to get things going!

    This is amazing. Everything is so well integrated and works seamlessly. I want to turn my home into a smart home too. Right now I have wemo bulbs, and iSmartAlarm system. They don't work well together I know. So in the future I plan on getting the smart things hub and buying accessories little by little. To not break the bank lol. I would love to see more videos on this or even how you installed those awesome surround sound speakers in your house. Great video. You've got a new subscriber lol!

    Sweet set up, nice house and great dog. What more can you ask for? You did some beautiful work here and while I have a different set of hardware/software, we do share some common items as well as approaches and your walkthrough gave me a bunch of great ideas for new projects and applications. Thanks for sharing it with us! Subbed!

    WOW! Awesome setup! I only got an apartment right now, about 800 sq ft, but in the future when I get a better place I would love to have a sweet setup like this! I love the server rack closet, looks awesome. I really checked this video out to learn a little about Smartthings, so I got more than bargained for hehe. Anyways, thanks for showing us your smart home, it's given lots of ideas for the future. I'm going to order an Alexa dot for my house to start, and I have a HTPC, Nest, sound bar, smart tvs and other components I'm sure I can tie in to a smart home system. I'm pumped. :-D

    Quite the setup. I've had Smart Things and Alexa two weeks now, and have 14 devices installed. I was using X10 for over 20 years, and always had problems with it. With all these ZWave devices I have, my system has been 100%, and I like that. I had a program called "Bill" for my X10 that let me voice control, but even more it let me write my own custom responses/alerts, with voice or wav files, (I used Hal's voice for some). I sure hope one day Amazon Echo comes up with a custom phrase ability on their app like that. I had a door open/close alert just like here. Also one for the garage door, and one for when the dryer went off. The verbal alerts is what I want to add, but haven't been able to figure out how to do it yet with the Smart things/Alexa. It would be easier if they just add that ability to the app.

    For those of you who have IP cameras and want to set them up with the smart tiles app. I recommend Xeoma. No, I'm not a representative trying to sell or market Felenasoft, just a long time user.
    Anyway, the smart tiles app doesn't support RTSP so I was able to get around this by setting up the Web Server module in the Xeoma camera setup. From the camera to the Web Server, I was able to create a new mjpg http path and then set it up on the smart tiles app.
    I have a Reo-Link HD camera and wanted to see it on the smart tiles so this was a great work around. For those who have IP cameras, Xeoma has been great connecting with most of my other devices such as Kodi camera overlay. I will be working on a SmartThings app that handle pings / communicates with the Xeoma software for additional home automation features.
    Just waiting on Smart Tiles to allow full screen when tapping on the feed.

    What are the blue LED strips you have above the windows? Are they Philips Hue LightStrips? Do you have those light strips set to stay on 24 hours a day, or do they turn off at night when you go to bed? What an amazing setup, the strip lights in the bathroom basin look kind of trips and psychedelic to me, I like them a lot. Again, are they Hue light strips?

  • @byrons8956
    @byrons8956 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started with X10 YEARS ago, but issues with intermittent control issues and the ANNOYING lights turning on (of course in the early AM) with power surges sometimes, I went with a Control4 system. I needed a system with a consistent UI design, even a non-tech can use and more away from the job of trying to get DIY devices to work.
    Since I haven't tried voice control since my X10 days, I'm integrating Alexa and Google's Assistant into my system to figure out what works best.

    Not sure if this has already been answered... there are a lot of comments here. I skimmed through them and didn't see it mentioned. Is there a video or somewhere I can read about how you have your echo setup with your receiver? When the receiver switches inputs to the AV setup, what happens to the audio for the echo? Do you have additional speakers on a zone that stays connected to the echo 24/7 so you can still get audio feedback from alexa when the TV is on?
    Also, how do you setup the harmony hub to switch to a particular input when the activities are powered down?

  • @tauntingfrenchguard2556
    @tauntingfrenchguard2556 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's a nice setup but I don't see a whole lot of "home automation" here merely a universal remote. Essentially you've replaced physical switches with a touch button on a tablet. That's manual not automatic. Automatic is something like FIBARO where the GPS in your phone triggers your aircon to activate and your garage to open as you approach your home. Where your doors unlock as you approach; where lights switch on and off as you enter and leave a room. Where you can program the system to carry out any function based on a variety of sensor inputs.

    • @DonalRomano
      @DonalRomano 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best thing is that all you've mentioned is possible with this setup with the addition of multi sensors of IFTTT and a GPS/based device. His system similar to mine is highly expandable.

    Informative video. I'm just getting into Home Automation for my first time and will be experimenting with my own home and then helping my parents and friends with theirs. Can you help me understand why you chose SmartThings over HomeSeer? I'm considering SmartThings now, thanks to your video. Everything I've researched shows HomeSeer much more capable and customizable. It's definitely more expensive and don't want to make the error if SmartThings is equal or better. Thanks!

    Hello, Mr, Peter. My name is Wayne and I'm trying to find a really good Home Automation system for my home and also learn all there is to know about building home automation systems so I can start offering the services with my company, Digital Techniques. I really, really liked your vid on your very sophisticated SmartThings set up and I would be extremely grateful if you would help me out on what I need to build my very own SmartThings system because like you, I'm not fond of the cookie cutter systems. I mainly want to control all the lights in and outside of my home; all my tvs and surround sound system, my garage door opener and yeah, also be able to keep track of where our dogs are. Hope you'll be able to find time in your schedule to help me accomplish my goal. You'll really be helping me out a lot. Thanks in advance.

    Great video. I have played around with ST and am ready to do a full home automation. Is there an better way to setup >100 devices, scenes and triggers than using the ST mobile app? It is very tedious to use such a small screen to do a lot of setups. Like you, I have used the SmartTiles to control ST. I have used HomeSeer and Control4 desktop apps, which are much better suited to setup a large configuration like yours.

    Hey! I want to automate my home in some way. And I wanna know what is that receiver which is in the rack that appears in the little screen "Alexa 5CH STEREO" and what does it do. And the next element you talk about which is in the rack too, what does it do? Which are the exact model of both please.
