As you probably know, Israel is working on lasers as a lower-cost solution to shooting down drones.
Yes but they deal with one target at a time. And the further the target is, the longer it takes the laser to burn through
war is all fun and games....till you have to go.
Was still fun and games the first time…until effective enemy fire encountered.
Then I found the fun and games aspect disappeared rapidly.
I remember a professor who grew up in Russia joking to students, “it’s all fun and games until men with shotguns and dogs show up…”
That comments feels perversely similar…
Yeah true
There's more than just the drone and missile/interceptor that goes into the calculation if cost effective.
The value of what's being defended matters too.
True. But you cant tell if you are dealing with guided ammunition
@@LongShotChannel I mean, guided or not, you'll want to prevent that carrier from taking a hit.
I'm saying you can't tell if they go to something you want to protect or not.
@LongShotChannel ya that's a whole new concept. There's a thing about that covered by Habitual Linecrosser talking about air defense responsibility zones and anything that's going to hit outside that gets ignored.
This helps certain assets obtain high degrees of protection while others... well... you know
@LongShotChannel Please tell me how small of an apartment building or house is worth not shooting a SAM at a missile or drone to protect?
Smaller ir missiles like stingers that could be carried in multiple racks in the pylons (like the Apache does with hellfires) could be a solution.. a lot more cost effective than aim9s and you could stuf like 12-18 of them in an F-16
Yes. That's smart
@@LongShotChannel I mean, an air to air version of the Stinger already exists for helicopters and UCAVs.. can't they adapt it to fighters also?.. i guess they must have thought of that but there might be other technical or other difficulties that we can't think of..
What could you do with a jet trainer, like the MB-399, L-39 or C-101 against drones? Would The slower stall speed make it easier to shoot them down with guns?
Def would love to see the L 39 take a stab
That's an interesting Idea. Like they took the air tractor and made it into an impressive CAS platform. Maybe we will see some WW2 warbirds makeing a comback. I wonder about the A10
"I'm being followed by a moon shadow" @11:00-04 . These night missions have such a high rate of concentration... How do you do it, LongShot?
The ground fire is getting so accurate.
A laser weapon on a fighter plane would be great for blasting drones
That thumbnail. I'm ready to see this.
And I want a rematch against you, LS.
Get home from work, find Longshots new video 💯
Same here!🔥
well, as far as cost effective goes, you have to take a look at the combatants GDP, too, and what percentage of that these weapons are. Sandboxx News just did a great video on this very subject.
Lasers are going to fix this problem
havent heard that outro in a very long time hahaha
Very interesting night fight ❤
How do you get the "all around" night vision?? And not just through NVG'S?? Really good 👍
This kind of warfare is gonna be massive a pain in the ass unless they mass produce a cheaper mean of defense. Frying a 1 million dollar amraam to destroy a drone that barely cost a few tens of thousands, that could ruin an army in no time. Angry taxpayers incoming -_-
I heard about the use of the AT-802 Longsword for chasing drones. Does DCS have a model of those ?
A military crop duster with loads of armorment and great optics for night flying.
Hi Pierre, not really. If your county's GDP is measured in the trillions and lets say Iran's economy is measured in the billions, you can waste a shipload more than they can. Also consider they are attacking the "West" and we are defending. We need to defend our people and industrial base to keep our GDP up and spend "little" to destroy their industries in comparison. I hate to say it but modern warfare is more about economics and political will than our military ability ever since WWII.
There's things like Thor and Mjolnir out there for drone swarms as well as DE is coming. Whether you like it or not
Maybe time to bring the p-61 back into service?
Why not using cannon bursts instado of a 9x?
F-15 vs F-14 is the greatest fight.
Hi bro, the F16 radar doesnt have problem to find this drones? I did try with the hornet and Nothing ! Damn
TH-cam almost never recommends your videos to me but you are my most consistantly watched TH-camr.... weird.
It is frustrating to hear. Have you tried the notifications?
I think A-10s and helicopters may be a good solution against a drone swarm. Mainly because they are much slower. I also think that both the A10 and the Apache can take many, many more Fox 2 missiles, and above all, the older and cheaper Fox 1... and of course they have effective cannons that can shoot down many more drones for much less cost
They will be sitting ducks in case of an added ballistic missile swarm.
@@traviswalker8933 Totally agree. However, neither "16", "15" or any other types of aircraft will help against ballistic missiles. I am sure that if there is a real attack, and not just a demonstration, not only will the number of ballistic missiles be greater than the Persians used, but above all, the number of cheap drones ! And then, in the final stage of the flight, slow aircraft equipped with effective cannons and cheaper missiles (Fox2, Fox2) could be useful,
@@dariuszostaszewski8473 for ballistic missiles interception, affective air defense systems should be in place accompanied with fighter jet solutions. Ballistic missiles are much faster than these suicide drones so they need to be intercepted with supersonic aircraft that can quickly deal with them before they hit their designated target.
@@traviswalker8933 that's exactly what I'm talking about... an effective method of defeating anti-air defenses is OVERWHELMING. And defeating such effective systems as those currently available to NATO and its allies will result in the enemies having to use a very large number of attack means. And the easiest and CHEAPEST method is drones. Moreover, long-term attacks using cheap means can deplete the stockpiles of anti-missile defense missiles very quickly, even in such rich countries as Israel and even the USA. And as we know, the production of these interceptor missiles is very time-consuming. THEREFORE, MY SUGGESTION WAS TO USE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DEFENSE FOR SPECIFIC TYPES OF ATTACK. And when writing about A10 and Apaches, I meant defense against drones (before they be able to use laser cannons en masse)
@@dariuszostaszewski8473 that's true as well. Maybe drones can also be utilized to counter drones as the attack drones currently in service are sub sonic. So there is no risk to the life of the pilots which ofcourse are the most valuable assets of the Airforce considering the knowledge and monetary expenditures.
Where are you from longshot ? Which country?
Apart from jamming I think Iron Beam will be (is?) a good cost-effective option for these type of engagements. I have read some promising articles about it. Of course at development phase it is costly AF, but when it gets online the actual “munition” will be quite cheap.
Nice video btw, I hope you are doing well.
I've read that these beams are not reliable in a cloudy day. So they went first for the iron dome.
Thanks.
The Iron beam can deal with one target at a time.. It's good but still...
First Comment woohoo
yess
You really need to learn how to ripple fire bombs.
Se imaginan lo mismo pero con MiG-29s y Su-27s ucranianos sin equipo de visión nocturna.
