      The key to queen rearing is P
      Prior preparation prevents piss poor performance
      You will need a fairly strong colony and a flow with pollen to rear good quality queens (or mimic with sugar and sub) not ideal though.

      That is very true. Had several people ask what tools they needed so I made this so I could just link it from here on out.

    Great video, Kamon. Love to try raising a few queens. Looks SO Very interesting, but I only
    keep 3-4 hives per season, up here in PA. Wouldn't know what to do with extra queens, other
    than re-queen my hive, but what to do with left-overs, if I had them? I don't want to get into
    selling at my age. You guys are Lively people. I would love to have you as Neighbors!

    Hi Kamon. I enjoy the dynamics of raising queens. You give great insight on the process.
    Q. I have two virgin queens that will emerge in a few days. I'm concerned about drone population. Unfortunately iv been been selecting optimal combs for rearing worker bees only. Very little comb for drone rearing and I haven't seen any any drones buzzing around. Should this be an issue on mating? Could you expound on the process of queen mating in mid July? I'm in eastern NC. Thanks.

    Enjoy your videos. What happens when you raise to many queens? Can you store them somehow? Or do you have to find a home for them?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can bank them for a short while but they need to be used or sold fairly quickly in my opinion.

  • @Th3_Gael

    Do you need to use a full size frame for the queen cups?
    Is there a reason like easier cleaning or stop them hanging comb from the bottom etc?

    How do I know there are plenty of drones if I want to try to make a couple queens? I’ve been told that the drones in my one large hive won’t breed within the same colony to keep from inbreeding? Is that true or can I do it as long as I see drones in my hive??

    when you get royal jelly out of a known queen cell how long is the royal jelly good for in a cell that you are making a queen?

    • @kamonreynolds
      @kamonreynolds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When we add royal jelly we use it for grafts right away. It spoils very quickly. If you collect it for later use it will have to be frozen or refrigerated. Let me know if I misunderstood your question

    • @natserog
      @natserog 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kamonreynolds gotcha! didnt know you could freeze it!....sounds like a great in doing grafts. --thanks!
