if in 2 years you saw this more than 100 times, it means you could have seen this more than 1000 times in this 14 years I totally forgot about this one! I found an old youtube account, and I traveled through my youtube's history. So many gems I forgot, my playlist now is richer than ever
To make this statement, one must have a fundamental understanding of what Jazz is. So, what is Jazz? To me, jazz is living in the moment. Jazz is listening to everything around you, the soloist, the accompaniment, the audience, yourself, processing information, and creating an intelligent response. I feel that this clip had a very jazzy interpretation of the musical information. I also feel that the way they experimented with timbres also gives the song a jazz feel. It's not bebop, but it's jazz
Give the man a better audience please!!!!!!!!!!!! Those people are just sitting there, staring unhappily, not realizing what a great thing they're watching.
this is some great trio work, i love it. I heard the studio version but was disappointed it didn't include the awesome chord at 1:12 and the cascade @ 3:26. Very tight playing ;)
@boxfactoryband It's a duo of swedish songwriter and producers nicknamed Bloodsky and Avant. Looking at their discography you can see a lot of good pop-hits (if such a thing exists). They have produced songs for Korean group as well. From what I see, most of my cupid musical sins (toxic, Chocolate Love, BoA) have been written my these 2 guys. What a relief.
yo lo he conocido al verlo en un festival de jazz aqui en españa, este verano, y me ha asombrado este pianista fabuloso.original.genial...esque si la musica es buena, gusta y punto>(me gusta el rock,clasica,etc,...)
@matthiasdewilde92186 this is not a music tv show. it's a debate with several intellectuals/artists about what's on actualites, that take place every night. A musician comes at the end to close the show, which is very likable but after 1 hour of listening the debate, the crowd likes to stay soft that's all. It's a very good show by the way.
we are sooo happy here in switzerland: cully jazz festival friday april 12, guess who's coming: yaron herman, then andreas schaerer, then emile parisien. are we lucky or are we lucky. all this on the beautiful leman lake side
You're getting hung up on the word "swing" which includes more than a four/four ride cymbal rhythm. Maiden Voyage is a "groove" tune utilizing a clever funky piano vamp in the head (i.e., meldody) with improvisation over F and D Dorian modes and a dominant altered scale. It also put Herbie's kids through university.
To all the people who're saying- "I don't like jazz, but this is awesome". Guess what guys, you like jazz. Check more of it out. I promise you won't be disapointed.
Unlike Herman, beginning with his early days with Bird, Miles was never "boring." He was a master of harmonic exploration and always swung or cooked. Let's just agree to disagree.
@inatakan88 could be :P I'm not used to this kind of beat, so it seemed strange to me... I mean, he's on the tempo, but... beat is changing so constantly it hardly feels right if you're not used to it. makes sense?
In a word, NO. I suggest you learn the meaning of "swing." Out of respect for Duke Ellington, who coined the phrase "it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing," in today's jazz world it is synonymous with "groove." Regrettably, the band in question doesn't groove. It sounds real "white," i.e., in the cultural sense of the word, nothing to do with race or ethnicity.
straightshooterable I try to say this with grace and humility, but as someone with a Master's degree in jazz performance, I'm pretty sure I understand the meaning of "swing". But what makes you the expert on whether something "grooves" or not? Don't you think that's subjective? The fact that you don't personally feel the groove on this one doesn't mean this performance isn't jazz. I think what you mean is "this isn't swing". In that case, you would be correct.
Shannon Chapman Sorry. I'm not impressed with your "Masters degree in jazz performance." I know several graduates of "jazz studies" who, as the old saying goes, "cannot blow their nose." To state the obvious, my ear tells me whether or not a jazz musician or band "grooves, i..e., "in fhe pocket.." The group in question doesn't swing or groove. In fact, it is utterly boring. That you are apparently unaware of this does not surprise me.
The argument isn't if the band is boring, and I never made a statement one way or the other on that issue so your assumption that I'm unaware is irrelevant. It's whether this group is a jazz group or not. But it seems that the point you're trying to make is that the only opinion that matters is YOUR opinion.
I'm playing a game. You type the name of a well known song, and the word "cover", and you stop when you find a good one. This is the one.
You can feel how everybody on the stage of the late show is glued by this awesome rendition... Great and powerful
i think ive seen this video more than 100 times and it doesnt get old. its just as good as all the other times ive seen it ... dang.

11 years later and not even a half million views. Why is the world so afraid of Jazz?
finally! we got there
In part its because of the lame video quality
in spotify this one sounds better

No matter what the Jazz music pros or graduates or whatever say... this has guts and fire in it... love it!
this is some great trio work, i love it. I heard the studio version but was disappointed it didn't include the awesome chord at 1:12 and the cascade @ 3:26. Very tight playing ;)

He's just pressing down on the strings with his hands to stop the vibration.
It's axiomatic. Any music worth listening to must be comprised of "meaningful inventive musical ideas."

Such a great drummer! who is him?
Unlike Herman, beginning with his early days with Bird, Miles was never "boring."

Yesss
"Ce soir ou jamais"...

@mehmetakduman Why would she dislike someone's interpretation of her music?
those people are clinically dead! they're just so oblivious to the whole thing, like "oh is someone molesting a piano? I didn't notice"
BravOO!!
@matthiasdewilde92186 Moreover, I guess that you're not allowed to applause in this TV show...
oh,jazz,i like you
@jazzpiano10 amen.
The first thing that pops into my head "Holy Shit"
I can't believe I stopped listening to jazz.
I like music.
straightshooterable … you're kidding, right? Jazz can be jazz without swing.

Feeble response. If a jazz band does not swing, groove or cook it is boring.
cool...
Where am I?
How did you came across the idea that jazz music has to contain "element of swing" and "meaningful inventive musical idea"???
Is that Avishai Cohen back there?
Excuse me, where the heck can I get this in .mp3 format? :O
Killer fucking solo
it doesn't sound like toxic because its a variation of the song and its jazz, wanna hear something like the original song? hear britney's version
Let's go back several decades, for example Herbie Hancock "Maiden Voyage", tell me where is swing in this composition?
@sunnyforengland Everybody likes jazz :p ;)
" Ce soir ou jamais " :)
@1:50😂
