The backup "dancers" are his band. They have been his band since his first album in 1983, they can be spotted in other videos. The drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz has been with him since 1980, when they recorded Another One Rides the Bus live on the radio on the Dr Demento show. Bermuda, a drummer, banged on Al's accordion case while Al played the accordion and other people in the studio made various funny noises. In interviews, Bermuda said he had met Al that day and had fun so told him he needed a band and he would his drummer. Oh, he's the short one. Steve Jay is the bass player and Jim "Kimo" West plays guitar. Al can also play keyboards and a bit of harmonica.
this is my favorite Weird Al original. :) It's the best song to listen to if you had been heartbroken and needed a laugh. the other one as someone said below that's a lot like it is You Don't Love Me Anymore.
As the story goes, a door-to-door salesman happened upon the Yankovic household when Alfred was but a young tot, offering lessons on the guitar or the accordion. Al's parents, of Yugoslavian heritage, were aware of the polka king & accordion master Frankie Yankovic (no relation), and thus opted to sign him up for that instrument. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Another great Weird Al song is You Don't Love Me Anymore. I love his parodies, but this was one of many of his original songs. Hardware Store is great! TMZ, The Biggest Ball Of Twine in Minnesota and more, were all part of his show last summer that I went to.
Weird Al - Christmas at Ground Zero is my second favorite - only 2nd to THIS song. Anyone who has had a girl break up with them can INSTANTLY identify with the sentiment in this song. As far as I know, he plays the accordian often in his polka covers of "modern" songs. Check out "Another One Rides the Bus" and his Polka Medley.
I've been a fan of Al's since the beginning. and in my opinion this is his best song, basically the Mt. Everest of Al songs. Everything since this has been downhill, but only a couple of feet downhill.
Took my 12yr-old daughter to Washington, DC's 9:30 club when he was appearing there a couple decades ago. General admission, no seats in the audience pit. We came early so we were able to position ourselves at center, actually leaning on the stage edge. My daughter was THRILLED when Weird Al got down on one knee & sang this song directly to her.
Couple of Al's originals you may want to give a listen to: Nature Trail To Hell from album In 3D. Best ad for an 80's slasher flic. No video for that one. or Dare To Be Stupid from album of the same name. Done in the style of Devo. Mark Mothersbaugh (song writer for Devo) has made comments about it saying he is annoyed by it because Al managed to find the sound that he had been looking for.
G-day Pat. I remember, back in the 80's, artist would gladly give permission to "Weird Al", to use the music , if Al asked to parody their particular song. I'm going to suggest, his parody of Micheal Jackson's song, "Beat It", titled "Eat It". Loved the song/reaction. Weird Al plays the accordion.
Hahaha Nice one Pat - so happy you're still going down the Weird Al track - he's such an awesome lyricist... his band are really really good and his voice is amazing. Best show ever !
Wow! that was a throwback! I forgot about this song. I grew up with Barbershop and the 1st time I heard it was one a quartet performed it and I thought it was hilarious then I found out it was a Weird Al song (of COURSE it is). Check out "Spend this night with me" by Val Kilmer. It has a similar feel but the parody of it goes to the OTHER extreme! It's from a parody movie called "Top Secret" It's HILARIOUS IMO!
I played this for my Mom awhile back and she lost it. There was definitely some peeing involved. LMAO You had exactly the same reaction as I have everytime I hear the line "shove an ice pick under a toe-nail or two." He plays the accordian for sure and probably a couple of others. He is such an amazing chameleon and can pull off any look he chooses. Definitely in the running for my favourite artist of all time as I like to write parodies from time to time. Not nearly as good as Al but I do my best.
It's an absolute travesty he's not already there. Multiple grammy awards, a pile of platinum albums, and adoration from his peers. He's got more of a right to be there than a lot of acts that are in.
Another side of Chris check out the orchestration on this and apologize if this rips your heart out ..... Chris Rea - Tell Me There's A Heaven......th-cam.com/video/T-6FmYqIeps/w-d-xo.html

They're also frequently in his videos.
his band never gets the huge credit they deserve.
This is my favorite of his original songs.
Mine too, and Al does too since he performs it every tour.
Same here, but to be honest, all of his break-up songs are brilliant.
This is in line with his other songs "You Don't Love Me Anymore" & "Since You Been Gone"
Those are also some good songs of his.

He plays the Accordion of course! he's on twitter and posts stuff there often!

It took you a couple of seconds to get the self-service pumps joke... He primarily plays the accordion. Highly recommend Melanie.

Weird Al plays the accordion. As a suggestion for another one of his originals I give you "Melanie"
Weird Al did another song like this called You Don't Love Me Anymore. It's a great one too.
He really is the king of the bad break-up song.
Another original is This is the Life, the theme song from the movie Johnny dangerously

Great reaction - one of my favourite Weird Al originals🙂👍
Wow. I forgot about this one. Thanks for bringing me back to high school!
G’day from Lockdown-toria,Try “The Hamilton Polka” very clever with what he does with it.
All of his polkas are fantastic and you get to hear him play that accordion.
All of his polkas are fantastic and you get to hear him play that accordion.
Weird Al is a virtuoso on the Accordion! lol
Drama much. I mean really (lol). I love You Don't Love Me Anymore. That one was special.

"Since You've Been Gone" is another good one along the same lines.
Wonderful. Thanks for this.
the night santa went crazy is a great video you should react to.

Your Horoscope for Today is another great original of his - a tribute to Ska and people who rely on newspaper horoscopes. Seriously hilarious!

Al plays accordian piano bass and guitar.
I played this for my Mom awhile back and she lost it. There was definitely some peeing involved. LMAO

Another original one from Weird Al is Slime Creatures From Outer Space
Great reaction, Pat! This is one one of my favorite Weird Al songs. I also recommend another original called Melanie.
Put Weird Al in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
It's an absolute travesty he's not already there. Multiple grammy awards, a pile of platinum albums, and adoration from his peers. He's got more of a right to be there than a lot of acts that are in.
The accordion, the guitar
How about This is the Life? It is the theme song from the movie Johnny Dangerously
I wish Al wasn't so vague about how he feels about his ex girlfriend
I remember weird Al from junior high lol
Tis the season Christmas at ground zero weird al
For another great, humorous (country/western) break-up song listen to Harder Than Your Husband by Frank Zappa.
LMAO
This is what happens when you break the heart of a World Class Satirist.
Accordion
