I like this podcast, I would not have subscribed otherwise. However, I do get slightly irritated about the misconceptions surrounding Abu Dhabi 2021 and Michael Masi. Masi did know the rules, and that is why he did what he did, but not after having consulted with the team managers before the race, and during the race he had it confirmed again, sometime around the first pit stop. Basically all team leaders/principals had agreed that the race would not end under a safety car, but that it would end as a race, which as mentioned, was confirmed again during the race. And Masi did what he was allowed to do according to the rules and regulations, including the race director's discretion - which is also in the rules. Only after Abu Dhabi the rules were changed for the 'loophole' he used to make sure the race would not end under a safety car. Mercedes were the guys who made strategic mistakes, twice, by not changing the tyres on Hamilton's car when they had the opportunity, it is that simple. Masi was fired because Wolff lobbied like crazy, also to make himself look better and draw the attention away from the stupid strategic mistakes they made. Anyway, glad to have this out of my system.
I totally agree. There was a high likelihood that the race would have ended with a Safety Car procession if Massi had done any differently than he did.

I stopped watching simply because the cars turned into tractors, DRS, departure from the loud engines of the past in the name of 'efficiency', Monaco still being on the grid despite it being on of the worst tracks for decades, and FIA being one of the most bureaucratic and corrupt sport governing bodies I have ever come across. The problem with Sainz's crash last year wasn't that the manhole lid wasn't welded. It was. It's just that the concrete around the whole thing broke and threw the whole construction into Ferrari's belly.
When I read a part of the F1 rules at a time there was some controversy, I was astonished at how badly written they are! They bear the signs of year after year of amendments, they really should be re-written from scratch. And when doing that, attention should be paid to having a default paragraph in every rules section that covers all unforeseen cases and describes what to do, either some fair action or the possibility of a decision by the race director. E.g. in case of the penalty for replacing components, there should always have been a rule that says that under unforeseen circumstances the race director can decide not to apply a penalty. That could have been used in the case of Sainz who had to replace car components as a result of colliding with a drain cover, a mistake by the track builders not by him or his team. But the rules were not written to allow it.
Why do I feel like Wittich was fired because Mercedes and Mclaren were unhappy with recent findings about there cars being illegal while Red Bull's was legal.

Actually in 2023 Red Bull (P1) received 140 million dollar in price money, while McLaren (P4) still received 113 million dollar, making the difference between P1 and P4 27 million dollar. In late 2022 I spoke to a former marketing director for the Latin and South American market and he told the audience that Red Bull almost doubled the sales in those regions after Checo joined Red Bull. People often fail to realize how popular Perez is. Now Red Bull F1 surely would love to become constructor champion, but Red Bull is in F1 to sell cans of Red Bull, that is why they are known as the party team which became successful. Another big issue for Horner is that after Gasly, Alex and Perez, are we sure that if Perez would be replaced with let's say Lawson, he can keep up with Verstappen?

Abu Dhabi might be a great closer if you are on the A list. For the punters it’s absolute garbage. Brazil is the place it should be for the man on the street.
What about this idea. The stewards get a video feed off the incident and the cars they are looking at are fully digital or digitally altered so they only see a black car and a white car. They don’t see teams, don’t see helmets or anything else. Just 2 cars or maybe more that had an incident and now you can decide. Give a penalty if you feel necessary and if it is not by the book. But you cannot see which car it is so you are never clouded with prejudice.
In this calculation about Perez youve left out the fact that he hasnt been able to in any way but the wrong way help or aid his teammate. And that he is preventing new blood to drive in F1, he is also already 34 years old...

They've each got their own strengths imo. Lando is faster, better at quali and more consistent. Whereas Oscar has such a cool head on him, he's aggressive and decisive with overtaking and just seems very smart. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because Oscar has shown the signs he has that he can mount a serious title challenge. It's one thing to beat your teammate, it's another to fight for a title, Oscar has done neither yet. I love Lando purely because I've raced with him on iRacing a fair bit, but ultimately I'm a McLaren fan. As long as McLaren win and a McLaren driver wins the WDC I couldn't care if it was Lando or Oscar.
Lando is most definitely better than Oscar what are you on about? Lando is better in quali and better in race pace. McLarens two best races were dominated by Lando while Oscar was no where.
The officiating needs to be updated to fix their inconsistency and bias issues. The quickest, easiest way, without being ridiculously hard, is to provide a system with up to date technology for digitally assisted monitoring and measurement of penalties in live real time. F1 will gain the ability to display graphics to the audience as for more than the penalty and regulations, as the technology will unlock many other graphic capabilities. The officials will still make the call, but they will have evidence and measurements nearly instantaneously. This helps for difficult and close calls. The technology is for this has already been developed, even before 2024. The officials will still make decisions, but the digital assistance can remove or reduce doubt when things are difficult and greatly improve the speed and accuracy of penalties. The teams already act like foolish and incompetent idiots way more often than expected for large corporate teams, what should your expectations be for the stewards? They’re just a bunch of old fogies (I know they’re more than that, but compared to other professional sports officials they don’t look that good) that really don’t have much in terms of officiating and refereeing a sport. The FIA is already incompetent when it comes to creating and defining the rules, so what happens when some incompetent, poorly trained stewards try to follow substandard and inadequate rules and regulations? It’s not pretty, especially when a sport like sailing has digitally assisted referring and penalty enforcement live, in real time. F1 needs good rules and they need to INVEST in rules, enforcement, measurement, and professional ongoing training. Professional usually implies that the referees are getting paid and their careers are on the line if they screw up or demonstrate dishonesty and manipulation, none of this volunteer BS. Referees need TALENT, guidance, and experience.
Remember when the NFL needed to bring in NCAA refs? Great refs, but they wern't used to NFL levels of speed and changeover. Went over like a lead balloon, so someone coming from F2 will be a trial by fire haha.

Perfect way to close out the season interlagos and you know it, yes marina is shit
Remember when the NFL needed to bring in NCAA refs? Great refs, but they wern't used to NFL levels of speed and changeover. Went over like a lead balloon, so someone coming from F2 will be a trial by fire haha.
AI could learn the rule book + precedents in 0.5 sec.
Let it decide. And let everybody obey the computer.
The automatic penalties given out by the computer on online racing sims suggest this is not a good plan 😅
Ahhh! EJ, better the older he gets.

Hi Team. Why has Damon Hill, been ditched from Sky as a commentator/presenter ..?
Because he went to fare in his British hate against Max.
At least the rest of the world all agree about that and even in his own country.
Hill was a clown.
