Strepitosa...Antonietta STELLA...in Don Carlos ...esprime tutto il talento di una voce inebriante...e smagliante...acutissima nelle fasi impervie e morbida nel cantato smorzato...poche come lei hanno saputo in questa aria ...difficilissima dare lustro con il suo magistero vocale al petsonaggio rendendolo appunto regale...GRANDISSIMA ANTONIETTA STELLA.👑👏👏👏

Note, for example, the care on the vowel "a", which is not sung "bright", nor "wide", but "protected with aw" as Freni once said (she did it right, too). From this, and a similar approach to the other six vowels, the sound has a real connection to the body, and elements of the chest register are audible much higher in the range, just as they should be. Likewise, and for simlar "balanced" reasons, when the lady uses her chest register, it also doesn't sound like her synchromesh has landed on a motorway at 120 kph!
You can feel when the music is too heavy for you, and you can also feel when it’s too light. There’s really no excuse to sing this aria if you’re not the right voice for it. Thankfully, there are still great examples like this from the past.

I saw her many, many times on stage in Vienna in the '60's. She never gave a bad performance.

Great voice and performance. Stella reminds me a bit of Dimitrova.
