President Uhuru Kenyatta appoints his deputy William Ruto as acting President. Through an executive order Uhuru made the unprecedented move to enable him attend a status conference at the International Criminal Court in his personal capacity and not as the President of Kenya. Uhuru had earlier addressed a special sitting of parliament after holding talks with the National Security Council and the Cabinet.
