@@ggeorge4144 I still work on them. I work in a restoration shop. I don't do bodywork just mechanical. I love the tail fins. A few were over done a bit, but they are still beautiful compared to anything made recently. The '70s was the last decade for nice looking cars. The trash they call car today is 100 times uglier than anything ever made back then. I also used to consider the '58 and '59 Chevys ugly, and they were, at least to me, after the beautiful '55, '56, and '57. But everything is relative. I would gladly take a '59 Chevy over anything made during the past 30+ years

I do, but here's another reason to tune in ... watch for the episode where Crawford falls out of the helicopter drunk and breaks his ankle Lol. Not sure if they left the fall in, but experts say the plaster cast and limp are visible in some episodes. "And remember ... leave your liquor receipts in your pocket ... and not out on the highway" 👀 😖 Lol 🙂 ...

The DeSoto was discontinued in 1961.
The good looking woman in this episode was Lynn Cartwright. She was in Wasp Woman and A League of Their Own. She was married to Leo Gordon who played tough guys. Their only child was Tara Gordon.

I love to see how the Markets were in those days
of the Highway Patrol show! My late aunt said that for $6.00 she would buy enough groceries to fill up all her kitchen cabinets! No wonder my family was so happy in those days! Just think, today, most of what are nice neighbourhoods back then in this and other old shows not shot on a set, are mostly the run down, old working poor parts of town today. So much for the American Dream. Sad a lot of Baby Boomers only got a taste of that, and those after not at all. I do remember those days and penny candy, coke for a nickle or a dime, candy bars for a nickle or dime. They were real, full size candy bars too. Someone bring me this tiny cog for my Time Machine and we'll all go back for a day or two. (Just kidding) haha Would be nice.

In my humble opinion, the absolute "highlight" of this episode, being the dazzling appearance, of this unforgettable and voluptuous brunette, who was the kidnappers accomplice, being non other than, actress, Lynn Cartwright. This statuesque lady, was also known, for two other notable appearances, during her rather modest acting career. Her most memorable moments, were in the film "Queen of Outer Space", circa 1958 as one of the Venucian patrol members, whom initially captured Eric Fleming's crew, speaking her only line in the film, and I quote here: "botchino! botchino!" end quote, occurring, early in the film, and, Lynn being seen, occasionally in the remainder of the proceedings. Her second major celluloid appearance, being in the film, "The Wasp Woman" circa 1959, playing the role of Miss Janice Starlin`s receptionist, and this time around, having a few more lines. And those lines, eloquently spoken, in a truly superb rendition of "Flatbush", quite a gal, indeed.........

Paul Broderick You do know that Crawford suffered from Alcoholism and during the run of the series, MOST of the time his OWN driver's license was revoked due to DWI. If you notice a LOT of the scenes where Crawford is actually driving it is on DIRT or Gravel roads. This was due to TWO things, one private roads were cheaper to rent and Crawford could drive ion them, but when they rented public streets sometimes he was NOT allowed to drive on them due to suspended or revoked licenses.
But he is an interesting fellow, and the Film "All the Kinds Men" he of course won a very deserved Oscar. If you have never seen that film you should it is TIMELESS and very good.
Also, very often Crawford was drunk by NOON (so I have read, I was not an eye witness). So scenes with Dialogue from HIM had to be shot in the morning when he was on a terror. also the HIRED people to WATCH him to try to keep him from drinking on the set. Crawford would bribe people to bring him booze. But who would turn down Broderick Crawford?? Also, his drinking Buddy was Lon Chaney Jr. also a Big man and a BIG drinker, when they were not working and heavily drinking they were known to go out to the studios and cause trouble. He was quite a rabble rouser. And it shows, some times I THINK I can tell he is Hung Over is the scenes. But he was GOOD, he was a great actor and "fit the times".
It, to me is kind of sad he drank like that, he was blessed with a lot of talent, he had a lot going for him. It still holds up today. I remember seeing hosting Saturday Night Live once, that was really something to see. I was born in 1951 and remember my parents watching this show when it was on Prime time. BB

I love the Chevy Impala or The Chevy Bel Air 1959. My kind of car. The thieves car was probabably a 1957 Plymouth Fury with Virgil Xner's hi fins design and had a 383 cubic inch motor! The Chevy Impala probably a 283 small block, with a three speed manual shift stick on the colomn.

Great cars, great acting, great messages !! As retired law enforcement...uhhh...not so good on the tactical stuff. You can't have everything. This was an awesome "good guys win" show however.

This Lynn Cartwright of the league of their own fame was one tall fine looking statuette, she basically tower almost all the cops including chief Mathews in This episode

Thanks for telling me her name , I've seen her in a couple of older movies I didn't know it was the same woman that was in a league of their Own. She played the older version of Geena Davis correct ?

Remember, what we think of as classic cars now were just the run of the mill family cars back then. Complete with a ride like a water bed. Comfy if you didn't try to corner it too fast.
They must have rented that mink coat, that actress really seems to have been in love with it.

Interesting how the series focused on "crime" and not the other duties of CHP. They never pulled over a drunk as far as I know on the show although Broderick Crawford was drunk most every day and and was pulled over many times during the run of the show. Of course celebrities were rarely arrested back then.

Why do they always ask the operator to hurry? As if the operator would take their time plugging in the connection.
5:23 Dan writes the info down, leaves the paper on the desk, walks into the other room, and hands it to the radio guy. Ooops.
Only to find out that the Railway Express Agent had switched boxes, and he's now on the way to Mexico.
