In 1982 at 18 yrs old I converted my 1964 F100 to a 351W and a C6 from a local junk yard. I had never touched an automatic transmission before but after borrowing a repair manual and many hours of struggle I was able to get it rebuilt. I drove that truck for the next 19 years with that set up. Your video brings back a lot of good memories. Keep them coming.
Merry Christmas Bob! Auto trans' are the most complicated engineering in a car. The engineers who figured these out were geniuses. Gives me the chills just looking at all the parts in one!
Love all your builds , Sure would like to see more of old Red , one of My favorite parts of the show ,You need to get red some thing for Christmas, Keep up on the Projects
I probably could get that transmission apart, But NEVER get it put back together! 😀 Looking forward to seeing how that is done. Love watching Rat Rob Bob do his thang! Merry Christmas Y'all...
Hey, Bob that's the second transmission.I've seen you make it look easy. I was always intimidated by transmissions But they don't look like they're really that bad.The hard part is remembering what Goes where You are a very good teacher
Same, I used to hate automatics until I found how easy it was to rebuild the older models. If you ever did rebuild one, you would wonder why folks pay the trans shop so much. Now, later models are a whole other ball game since they introduced electronics and computer control.
I’m pulling the c6 out of my 69 Lincoln soon and this is exactly what I needed to get started. Looking forward to the reassembly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience
Bob,,u remind me of my granpappy,,,If somebody was smart enuf 2 put it together,,,he was smart enuf 2 tear it down and rebuild it. I never seen anything he wouldnt wade n on.. Thanx for the video n showing people 2 jus wade in...HAPPY HOLIDAYS😊😊😊😊😊
One of the best and educational channels on TH-cam. I’m serious man I can’t thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. I’ve got a 91 Ford F350 Crew Cab Lariat XLT Dually I’m chomping at the bit to turn into a rat rod. This is by far the best channel I have found for tips, ideas, and how to’s. It’s seriously appreciated
Great! Bob I have buildt alot of automatic trans. But never a C6. If there rusty just Vapor Blast them Bob. Your the MAN! Love watching your videos. 😊😊
Hey man ,I had a 68 Ford F100 and I rebuilt the c6 trans from it in my kitchen floor in February ,I had never rebuilt a auto trans before. Ran great still in truck 15 years later when I sold the truck. I went to the library and copied rebuild process from repair manual.
Exactly Daniel. Before videos, I watched my brother lay each piece in order of where it came out. Now, as you can see, I can just lay it out where ever I have a pan with room in it. 😎
Thanks for the video Bob. You make those transmissions look so easy. Keep up the great work you are getting it done for sure. See you on the next one. 👍😎✌️
mister Bob oh boy u done it again! i am amazed every video you do. Please one day do a bio video on your car building experience did you do this for a living back in the day how did you learn how to do this not everyone can build a transmission hell most people cant even spell transmission haha. Ill do any repair on cars homes boats just about anything but transmission nah
Watching the C-6 disassembly and I'm thinking... You'll N E V E R e v e r get that put back the way it was ! I'll keep watching but it seems impossible! Worse'n a Rolex Watch !
I have rebuilt a couple Chevy TH350's and one 700R4. Thought Ford would be something completely different but your video showed that nope, they fairly similar. So if one day I need to do an old Ford automatic think I can go into it with confidence.
Actually, the C4 and this C6 are easier than the Turbo350 and 400. The drum pistons have different seals which don't require a feeler gauge and good luck to install.
It is hard for me to believe someone had to sit down and design that thing, and it is even harder to believe you seem to have no fear of pulling it all apart. You've worked in a Transmission Shop at some point in your life... Admit it!!! This isn't the first one I've seen you dive into!! Fearless Bob!!
Any time a clutch or band starts to turn black, it's toast. The fibers are breaking down and they lose their ability to hold, even if it hasn't lost any thickness.
Bob have you ever thought about a fix body t bird feoe a build say 1983 to 1985 302 w maybe a 1988 turbo bird and throw a 408 w stroker or go 427w lots more money though and a 6-71 blower a Paxton would be cool also and probly cheaper used.
Hello Bob. A question. Did you read a C6 manual before starting or while you were tearing the transmission down or did you simply go by you previous experience and what you already know about automatic transmissions since you stated this was your first C6?
Hey, Bob, would you build me a truck?Something like a junkyard dog.Not as spectacular as that 1, but just to get around truck that's all I need.I'm in desperate need of a vehicle
Why is there a governor on a C 6 Transmission? Darn Ford wheels fall off before they hit 65. OK that may not be true Bob. Wasn't there a governor on the Turbo 400 also? Governer must have another function besides speed
There's Ford guys, I used to be one up until I got my hands on a 66 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed, and then there's Chevy guys and Mopar guys and then there's me who loves them all up until the 1972 models.
I never messed with auto trans. If it was automatic, I kept walking. I still feel that way. A slushbox, slipping clutches, and wasting gas. I need to get my head around, fixing them. Everything is auto. Riggs, pick ups, puddle jumpers. You got most of the glass work done. That 400 turbo is holding up good? Might as well, shake it apart, and make a list. I'm like Santa,I watching you..
A man who can do anything. They don’t make em like that anymore.
Ya gotta want it real bad!

Imagine a bunch of guys designing this thing on pieces of paper- before CADD!
@@kodak_jack yup. I was thanking the ford engineer (in my head) for the exploded view drawings.
Well done videoing this pull down Bob, it makes it easier to watch again to remember the "this goes up, this goes down".
I marvel at the smarts it took to engineer an automatic transmission. Merry Christmas.
Ain’t that the truth!!!!
Ha sido un trabajo difrente, y duro... y ahora este curso de transmisiones... es un regalo, gracias Bob!!
Merry Christmas Bob! Auto trans' are the most complicated engineering in a car. The engineers who figured these out were geniuses. Gives me the chills just looking at all the parts in one!
Rat rod bob is a legend on auto mechanics

Make a disassembly video. 😎
The most complicated part of any hotrod. You are a craftsman, Bob!
Every time I watch a transmission tear down video I remind myself to NEVER attempt it myself! Good job, Bob.
Same, I used to hate automatics until I found how easy it was to rebuild the older models. If you ever did rebuild one, you would wonder why folks pay the trans shop so much. Now, later models are a whole other ball game since they introduced electronics and computer control.
Thank God for videos 😆 I'll stick to just watching. 👍 to you Bob.
God Bless Rat Rod Bob
Sir,You are an outstanding human being,as well as 1 hell of a hot rod builder..
You are quite a mechanic and craftsman Bawb
Our Uncle Bob is one heck of a cool guy!
Great video. Love the explanations and descriptions. Be safe and stay well.
Dang Bob...I heard of try'n to find a needle in a haystack but that thing looks like a haystack of needles. Good work fella.
I just did a 700r4 for my 1946 GMC truck. Thanks for the entertainment, Bob appreciate ya
I’m pulling the c6 out of my 69 Lincoln soon and this is exactly what I needed to get started. Looking forward to the reassembly. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience
Legend, Man I wish I lived close to RRBob the mans got skills.

We appreciate you to Bob, thank you for showing all your knowledge. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Bob has no fear, legendary experience! 😉✌
I have a c6 .. still looks like a scary lot of parts to try myself. Good on ya bob!
Merry Christmas Bob Time for a day off with pay ! Buy Red a new shirt 😅 !! I'm digging the build !!
I never minded rebuilding manual transmissions but hated doing automatics! Too many parts 😅 Good job Bob! 👍
Great video Mr. Bob , you do it all
Great! Bob I have buildt alot of automatic trans. But never a C6. If there rusty just Vapor Blast them Bob. Your the MAN! Love watching your videos. 😊😊
Great tutorial Bob!
It's a lot better than the normal you would find in a boneyard, nice work Bob 👍
You make me feel so stupid sometimes. Good job, thanks for your help and Info.
I know I'm weird, but I always liked cleaning parts and assembly, better than tear down.
My 85 f150 has a c6 in it. Very useful information here in case I ever need to rebuild my transmission. Take care and I'll see you on the next one.
Good stuff Bob !
A jigsaw puzzle! Nice job.
This video will be a great visual aid to remember how to assemble, thanks for the tutorial.
Exactly Daniel. Before videos, I watched my brother lay each piece in order of where it came out. Now, as you can see, I can just lay it out where ever I have a pan with room in it. 😎
Those are great transmission
Thanks for the video Bob. You make those transmissions look so easy. Keep up the great work you are getting it done for sure. See you on the next one. 👍😎✌️
Awesome video it’s about time we get to see the inner workings of a transmission.
You make it look easy Bawb, Im diggin it.
Merry Christmas Rat Rob Bob and Family and Happy New Year
Get urrrrr done , great job Bob
mister Bob oh boy u done it again! i am amazed every video you do. Good work Bawb you are awesome
Watching the C-6 disassembly and I'm thinking... You'll N E V E R e v e r get that put back the way it was ! I'll keep watching but it seems impossible! Worse'n a Rolex Watch !

I am glad it's not me trying to fix that c 6.😊
It is hard for me to believe someone had to sit down and design that thing, and it is even harder to believe you seem to have no fear of pulling it all apart. You've worked in a Transmission Shop at some point in your life... Admit it!!! This isn't the first one I've seen you dive into!! Fearless Bob!!
I like walking into buddies shops and knowing what's apart by the first whiff 🦾
Best days to ya Bob 👍
I hear ya! A couple weeks ago, fiberglass was in the air ... now it's tranny fluid.
@RatRodBobBuilds- It's gonna be great 👍
🗿💨 thanks for sharing Bob🧲👍
That transmissions gonna be transmitten again someday soon!
ive rebuilt c4s before man and i always thought that a c6 had much more in it ....looks to be the same ....just bigger ....wow ...
Yep!
Bob a slide hammer works better than anything to pull your pump
The snap rings for the clutch packs are different thicknesses, selective fit to set clutch pack clearance.
Thanks, good information.
All I can say is “What a Nightmare !”😂
Automatic transmission repair is not for the faint of heart. But if you want it bad enough you can do it! 💯
Thanks Bob I'd feel pretty confidant trying this with your video, now how about a turbo glide? easier or harder?
I'm having a hard time believing this is your first c6 transmission rebuild bob
Looks like a good candidate for a rebuild Bob. I spose Red is too occupied with Elvira to be of much help?
Any time a clutch or band starts to turn black, it's toast. The fibers are breaking down and they lose their ability to hold, even if it hasn't lost any thickness.
Good tip!

Will this car be for sale? lol. great build
Probably not
@@RatRodBobBuilds Good deal. You do amazing work. Thanks, for the videos.
Bob got a question how are the homemade bushings holding up in the older builds have you had any problems from them
Still good on the 47 Ford Truck as of this spring. My first build, 454 Rat Recon is scheduled to make a visit soon and we'll check those too!
I gotta bolt I’ll sell ya 😂
you got dirty....
OnePlus of filming yourself is you can go back and watch it if you forget how something goes
Hello Bob. A question. Did you read a C6 manual before starting or while you were tearing the transmission down or did you simply go by you previous experience and what you already know about automatic transmissions since you stated this was your first C6?
All of the above plus I watched a lot of other guys C6 videos.
👍🙏🤑🔥
I had a stock 68, 289 Mustang. I wonder if this is the same as that trans in my Mustang? Just curious, if anyone knows.
Probably a C4.
@RatRodBobBuilds Thanks Bob.

Automatics are little intimdating to rebuild im pretty sure i.d fuc* something up 😂
