Hi Terry! The yellow building you showed at the beginning is one of the first buildings in Riga with Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil) elements, built in 1898-1900. Only its facade is left of it, the internals are completely rebuilt. Fun fact, many buildings in Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil) you showed in Alberta Street were built by Michail Eisenstein (father of the world-famous film director Sergei Eisenstein) and at the time, in the 1900s, the locals didn't like his architecture, believed it was too excessive and called him "mad cake-maker" :) Now tourists from all over the world come to see his buildings. On that Alberta Street, there is a museum of Art Nouveau (or Jugendstil) in Riga, one whole apartment was preserved as it was in the 1900s, where one can see how people lived back then, using all these Art Nouveau-style objects, fashion etc in everyday life in Riga. But I guess it is next time :)
Erwin that is great info thanks brother! That first yellow one was amazing and looked brand new. Funny, in college one of the first films they had us watch was by Sergei Eisenstein. These amazing buildings add to the alure and character of Riga.
Thank you for the tour of Riga, my Dad was born in Riga 1932 moved to the US after ww2, never got to see his hometown till now, great history, oh I am also from Orl Fla, cheers
Terry, your European tour vlogs were top-notch, I haven’t watched them all but the one’s I did were very historically and geographically informative and had great interaction with the locals. Bald and Bankrupt has some serious competition in you! That tour guide Alex that was with you in Crete and Greece was great, I could listen to that guy read the phone book! This is the only way I would ever see these places, so thank you! BTW, I just missed you in Miami, but I watched your food festival video. We were there Monday checking out Key Biscayne, so beautiful. So, keep being you, it’s working!
Such a beautiful city. Your personality is outstanding and your humor made me laugh, as always 🤣 Loved the walk through the city and I enjoy learning along the way. I watched each and every vlog and livestream and it was amazing. Thanks Terry 😊 Onward and Upward
Nice walking tour . Always interesting Latvia older building. Thanks for showing us a great time in Europe. I watch all your vacation videos. Good work Barefoot mailman. 😅😊
