    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Cora (Laura San Giacomo) meets up Quigley (Tom Selleck) before they leave for America.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Tom Selleck stars as American cowboy archetype Matthew Quigley in Simon Wincer's outback western Quigley Down Under. Answering an advertisement placed by Australian cattle baron Elliot Marston (Alan Rickman) to come to the rugged and uncivilized Australian countryside and shoot dingoes, Quigley finds himself halfway around the world, only to find that Marston wants to exploit his talents as a sharpshooter in order to wipe out the Aborigine population. Taken aback by this square-jawed genocide, Quigley grabs Marston and hurls him through a window. Marston, who controls the region, sets out to hunt Quigley down. But helping him stay one step ahead of Marston is the addlebrained expatriate American trollop Crazy Cora (Laura San Giacomo) who insists that Quigley is her husband Roy.

    This movie was in the making for years. Steve McQueen was suppose to be Quigley, but of course he died before it could be made. Clint Eastwood was too old, and Harrison Ford turned it down (supposedly because Q8was too much like Indiana Jones), when Tom Selleck Magnum P.I. was concelled in 1988 he was open to star in Quigley Down Under.

    Tom Selleck should've been a bigger star. I think he lacked the voice to match his physical presence. Looking as he did, he should've had a voice like Robert Mitchum or John Wayne.

      He's done just fine. His current TV show is going into its 10th season. He is considered one of the better cowboy actors around.

      He's also suffered for many years from severe arthritis. My Mom (who has always been a huge fan) mentioned this to me months ago as we discussed something similar and she was recommending I watch Blue Bloods. An article I read said he often has (and I'm being serious) stunt men standing in for him in scenes entering and exiting cars. He's done well for himself, and is still an iconic actor to many.
      Personally, I just dig his sweet mustache! Lol

      I think his voice matches just fine. He doesn't have to have a booming tone like Mitchum, or a drawl like Wayne, but his own style, which is what made him a badass for the role of Quigley.

      @@TheTsar1918 I like Selleck too, but I must admit that Sam Elliott, who ironically has done a western with Selleck and looks a little like Selleck, has a much better cowboy voice.

    There's realy only 3 actors that realy fit the Old west.
    Tom Selleck. Sam Neil and ofc Clint Eastwood.
    No doubt, there are others that play the part well, but those three are the part.

      John Wayne would disagree. As would Steve McQueen who I thought was excellent in his Western roles. Also: "Sam Neil"? Sure you're not thinking of Sam Elliot?

      @@1SaG Sure, the Duke was a great actor, played some fantastic roles, but to me he always seemed to be just playing a part. (obviously they all are)
      Whether that was just older style of acting, the style of directing or the scripts, i couldnt say.
      There are some great actors over the years, but i still think those three have something more than the rest.
      Yep, Sam Elliot is who i meant.

    I never quite understood why the clerk picked up the gun, then put it down. The poster didn't have Quigley's face, so why pick up the pistol in the first place? And if he somehow thought it was Quigley, why would he be easily fooled by a fake name? Did he want to let Quigley go? But why the gun then?

    • @InconspicuousChap
      @InconspicuousChap 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because he was matching the age, height, etc. and Q. said he was heading to America. The clerk was spoofed by confident speech, and the woman effectively confirmed the name (Roy) by not being surprised at all.

    • @janefelix3821
      @janefelix3821 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From the accent, the clerk knew he was an American and there were probably very few Americans there at the time. The port city being used is Fremantle, which is on the West Coast of Australia, which by ship can take months to reach from the West Coast of the United States. So given that, he probably figured that any American male of that age and size would be a likely suspect.
