i feel bad for the people who can't just sit and listen to something new without immediately comparing it to the past. love how heavy and intense this is.
I've loved Periphery ever since Misha was writing under Bulb, I'll never forget the first Periphery songs that hooked me, The Fast Ones and Icarus Lives. There are tons of other songs Misha has written that I'd love to hear Spencer put vocals on (Absolomb/Oxmodius) but never have I been disappointed with any production that has been delivered. It takes a lot of hard work to create a piece of collaborative art and even more difficult to make it memorable. I really enjoy this song, more so than The Scourge. I don't think it will ever go back to the days of Zyglrox or Insomnia, but that's because the band is moving forward as a group. Each song fills a different space of music that I enjoy growing my collection with, it is a bit difficult to explain, but if every new song were the same, wouldn't it become stagnant? Periphery is versatile, varied, and has tremendous range; you can't stop the juggernaut.
Absolomb!! One of my all time favorite Periphery tracks!! That track was never officially released and I would to hear it reproduced with vocals on one of their albums. That track is just too good to be sitting idle.
Just noticed something: The first section in this where Spencer sings "Fly past the trees", is referenced at the end of Psychosphere. Spencer's vocal line here is mirrored by an ambient guitar, and the underlying chords (i-iv) are the same in both songs. Ah! I'm geeking out about how you guys are sneaking themes throughout this album! Super excited!
Kinda crazy that you caught that considering Psychosphere isn't technically out yet! But yeah there is a LOT of that kind of stuff on both albums, some of those will be harder to find than others, so happy hunting haha.
Misha Mansoor Been watching a video of the performance at Loudpark. Love it. Also noticed the theme from "The Scourge" in there, mixed in with the ambient melody towards the end of it. Sneaky bastards. Looking forward to giving both albums a complete spin when they come out!
Almost have all the lyrics down, if some of you can fill in the blanks or correct some of my mistakes, feel free to help me out. I might put out a vocal cover somewhat soon (perhaps within the next two weeks?) No promises though, but I'll do my best to make it happen :) UPDATE: I received the albums today and I now have edited a few parts to have the lyrics be 100% accurate, thanks for helping along the way guys, these albums are amazing! Update: Thanks to many of the people here we have filled the few missing lines I couldn't figure out, you guys are awesome! We might be able to call this finished very soon if we can all agree this is correct. Update, I have since healed(thread was feeling very sick and was losing my voice for a bit) and am feeling much better so i'll give the vocal cover a shot within these next few days. Hopefully I will be happy enough with the results but I'm feeling pretty confident, I'll let you guys know when and if I post it :) The Bad Thing by Periphery Sometimes there's a crack in the world That I can peer through to see it for what it really is There's an ugly face staring back Demons are everywhere, they draw the hatred from inside of me There are times at the top of the Earth That I wish I could throw everyone and everything Watch the mountains snap the necks of the hypocrites, I'm bathing in the thought of it. Cole Dehmer Thanks! There's definitely a "surround" in there after what seems to be "what". I'm not totally sure about the "what" though, it sounds like it but i'm trying to figure out if it fits in the context or if it might be something else that sounds similiar. To be honest, i'm not sure if the "except" might be "accept" either haha.
Totally agree, I love Nolly on the bass. In their first two albums the bass didn't stand out enough IMO, this more recent stuff really has a solid bass tone cutting through.
My thought exactly. The mix as a whole seems a bit more scooped through the middle than usual, but it's done rather tastefully, I think. Really lends it to bringing out the bass a bit more naturally in the mix, and the throaty/grindy side of it is inspiring.
Mark Parrott honestly, I don't mind. Sometimes, it's what the doctor ordered, and it would have been a mistake to do otherwise. More complexity =/= better song, right?
RunawayThumbtack For this specific style it's exactly what's required to get the sound people are looking for. If you want it to feel full and brutal while maintaining it's the percussive nature of the notes you need the bass to follow the guitar. As a bass player I like it to act as it's own instrument instead of exclusively a supporting act.
I might do a lesson. I am transcribing with a pencil and paper! Just finding some nice fingerings for the smoother lines. Plus there that jazzy 16th note triplet phrase that I am not 100% on, but I have got something fairly close!
***** Due to quite a few people wanting to see it I have uploaded it to my FB page facebook.com/sambellguitar as a disclaimer I would like to say this is just a scratch transcription for me, its very rough but hopefully people can get what they want from it. I have uploaded a video to my youtube channel of me playing the transcribed version of the solo. Try not to cringe to much, I am pretty damn sketchy, but it was fun learning the solo. Awesome playing Mark!
That was my exact reaction when the video started playing. Just so good. Also sweet that the riffs Mrak shows off in the making of juggernaut videos appears in this song!
I love the Meshuggah vibe from this song. I don't get what some people are bitching about. This kind of music isn't about being a technical shred fest, it's all about the groove.
This is AMAZING. simply put, the best periphery has ever sounded. Spencer's vocals are absolutely stunning; his scream is the best it has ever sounded. I am in love with the guitar tone--there is really something special going on there. The bass production is superb as well, and the drums are perfect. A song has not instantly wowed me like this since the first time i heard panic attack by dream theater. that was my introduction to dream theater, and this song produces that same kind of magical feeling. Super excited for the new album.
So sick. After you guys released The Scourge I knew this album was going to be insane. This song has got me very excited for January. Guitars sound raw as hell, the drums have a great punch to them, and the clean tones kill. I was a fan since Soul Crush was released on soundclick and the tunes just keep getting better! Anyone who trashes this song complaining about the tone or structure OBVIOUSLY knows how to do it better. That's why they're on top right? Lol can't wait to watch you guys play this live!
Words can not describe the conflict between choosing a favorite song by Periphery. The attention to detail on every song throughout all the album's they've ever created sounds amazing on the recordings as well as live. I love you guyz, and I'm sure you all love each other. Your sound could not be created without all six members and it's truly something special for people who... sleep with a fan at night.
TO PEOLE THAT DONT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF BEING PROGRESSIVE : want to know whats hardest about making music? being original. that doesnt mean being technical, because anyone can do that. anyone that practices enough can shred. once you get it down, it is easy. the HARDEST thing to do is leave your comfert zone, and make something you havent already done. REAL musicians want to expand their abilities, and that means always trying to modify their sound. Not completely change it, but modify it a little. so no, Periphery didnt make the same album again. thats because they are creative and talented. rant over
It feels like here they've done what EVERYONE ELSE has already done. It's so boring. I was very open to them getting out of their comfort zone which is why I really loved Periphery 2 and Clear. but this feels like it's taking a huge step backwards and it's very unsatisfying to listen to. The main riff feels generic, vocals so so and forgettable, and boring breakdowns. I'm not going to base my whole opinion of the album just off of this track, but what I'm saying is, that it shows what kind of direction the rest of the album will sound like, and it's not looking too good so far.
So doing the double album thing that Opeth redefined and that Baroness toyed with is progressive? Or doing the whole BTBAM EP/Album/Parallax story thing? I would say that derivative is more like it. I realize that some of these things are part and parcel for prog metal, but Periphery just seems to be following trends at this point. Crappy clean vocals, check. Double album, check. Concept album, check. And like most cases of imitation, they're behind the curve. Opeth and Mastodon have been doing concept albums and putting greater emphasis on clean vocals for years, but both of those bands actually change their sound; not to mention they actually do clean vocals well.
Production is solid, every snare hit, every symbol, every instrument rings through with a clarity that's unprecedented. On top of that, it sounds massive. Spencer's vocals are perfect here. His phrasing compliments the music perfectly. Musically this is minimalistic compared to previous Periphery releases but it is highly and I mean highly effective. From all of this I can see two things. One, they're trying to hit a larger demographic, and two, they'll be able to stay tasteful and appeal to musicians in the process. Good work guys.
I agree for the most part, although Periphery would tell you they're not trying to hit a larger demographic at all. According to Misha, they actually don't care in the slightest what the fans think and they don't write music for their fans, but simply for themselves. Kind of callous, but he's pretty adamant about that. Especially now that this record is already getting a lot of criticism. Apparently they don't give two shits what the fans like or about reaching a larger audience, and they're only writing music for themselves. I'm not sure if I actually buy that, though. I think they're lying to themselves, saying they don't care what the fans think. Either way, I've been following Bulb/Misha since the very first Bulb tracks that he started recording something like 8 or so years ago (I think that's when he most truly wrote music just for himself, and the lack of pressure is what made him able to pump out track after track that were all great) and he'd upload them to myspace and soundcloud. Even then he got great sounds with just a Line 6 POD, and I've been in love since, and through the inception of Periphery. I'll always be a fan, though I have my preferences. I'm sure this album will blow me away just like the others. It just may be one of those albums that you don't like as much at first, but grows on you and ends up being better than you hoped for. Done rambling.
Been blowing up my car to this for the past 4-5 days, Thanks for all the hard work guys and to Misha Mansoor Respect sir, as a drummer of 15 years, you are a theory drummers best friend. The cadences and timing of all your riffs have made me think differently altogether. And obviously Matt Halpern you are the god of the 4 piece kit. Ive never heard so much from so little. Pre-ordered
really awesome work. that last section at 3:51 is amazing... I noticed the riff that misha played in one of the updates. was really excited to see where it ended up (the clean spacey guitar panned right). Anyway the whole song flows well. Extremely excited to listen to the whole epic. I always isolate myself and listen to the entire thing through. CANT WAIT.
It's so fun to watch the Juggernaut Updates and find the little clips in the 2 songs released so far! And I love that the bass is so apparent and stands out more than Periphery 1, 2, and Clear. Good work guys!
Fun to see people judging an entire double CD album based on the two songs released so far. When "The Scourge" was released, people complained about how it sounded so different from the usual Periphery stuff, and now after this song, people are complaining about how it sounds similar to previous Periphery songs. What will it take to satisfy you people? Only two songs and we're getting complete lectures on what Periphery used to sound like and what they sound like now, without even hearing the entire thing, especially considering the fact that it's a concept album.
The entire point of a single is to give a basic impression of the direction the album as a whole is taking. I'd say criticisms of The Scourge and this are well-founded. Compare them to the really interesting and varied melodies and structures from bulbs stuff and p1. There is definitely a trend towards more straightforward songwriting going from bulb-p1-p2, and these songs so far seem like they're continuing along those lines.
Chris Luchterhand Criticisms on the songs solely, yes, it makes sense for some to not like them since music is a really subjective medium, obviously not everybody is going to like every single song from the album, but it's impossible to judge the album as a whole now, regardless of the purpose of releasing singles. First of all, not all bands function in the same way, so we can't really say why Periphery decided to release these songs as singles, it may or may not be a pointer towards the direction the band is headed in this album, for all we know the songs released so far may be the least complex ones from the album, but on that subject, just because they're a prog band, doesn't mean they're not allowed to make simpler songs. Personally, I'm enjoying the general Periphery vibe mixed with the different approach they've taken on the two songs, but that's just my opinion I guess.
Chris Luchterhand These aren't singles, they are just lead tracks. We are putting tracks out to give you a sense of the scope of the albums as there is unfortunately not a single song that can do that well. Maybe Omega comes close, but obviously we have to save that one haha.
Funny how established musicians love it, and people with no videos, no content, usually no avi, and nothing to offer say it's not good enough for them. This track wrecks, I can't wait to hear the full story
The fact that Periphery is always willing to experiment and progress is what makes me respect them so much. Really excited for this new album and really love this song too!
Every time i see a new Periphery song on TH-cam, I like to search for Misha's comments because in reality he is crushing a young kid's soul with his keyboard skills. Also, this song is killer.

My attempt, Sponce/Misha confirm pls: Sometimes there's a crack in the world that I can peer through, And see it for what it really is. There’s an ugly face staring back at demons of everyone, They draw the hatred from inside of me. There were times at the top of the Earth that I wish that I could throw, Everyone and everything. Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites, Abating in the thought of it. Severed dreams of all the weak - quenching thirst inside of me, And the scream it holds the key - unlocking this for all to see Fly past the trees, ascend to holy air and breathe Far from the leaves, transcend these earthly boundaries Fly past the trees, ascend to holy air and breathe Far from the leaves, transcend the fucking boundaries And is it this desire that you're looking for? Or is insanity is knocking at your door? And give me just a peace and surely you will find - Everything is better on the other side. But can you look within and find what is in store? This life is but a scream that has become your whore It's tearing a hole inside, you'll bury your life Sometimes there's a hole in the Earth that I can slip through, To get away from the twisting of tongues. There was a love I could greet without tearing up, Feel the desire creeping over me. There were times at the top of the Earth that I wish that I could throw, Everyone and everything. Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites, Abating in the sight of it. I’d like a reason just to help them bleed. Give me a reason, come on give it to me. Give me a reason, fucking give me a reason. Ah-Ah give me a reason, come on give it to me. Fly past the trees, Far from the leaves, Fly past the trees, ascend to holy air and breathe Far from the leaves, transcend the earthly boundaries And is it this desire that you're looking for? Or is insanity just knocking at your door? And give me just some peace and surely you will find - Everything is better on the other side. But can you look within and find what is in store? This life is but a scream that has become your whore, It's tearing a hole inside, you'll bury your life Yeah, there’s a crack in the Earth, there’s a crack in the Earth, yeah I’d like a reason just to help them bleed. Give me a reason, come on give it to me.
vbdude006 I've been wondering if it's maybe "Far from the lees", a lee being a place where one might take shelter, hide, etc. from weather or turbulance. Hard to say
Colin Rich I was guessing "leaves" since the line previous talks about "fly from the trees". One can hide behind leaves too. Hard to say. I had the greatest trouble trying to decipher the "Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites, Abating in the thought of it." line. I thought it was bathing at first but abating seemed to make sense since abating means to lessen among other things.
vbdude006 This sounds really close! So glad you did it, and if this is exact, these are some fucking awesome lyrics! Just on a literary level, theyre really cool and interesting. All aboard the hype train!
I refuse to judge individual songs out of a concept album. I will make my judgements and opinions when I listen to them both from start to finish, in their entirety.
Haven't really listened to heavier music in a little while. Came across both new Periphery tracks and I love both. I'm deff pre-ordering a bundle. You guys never disappoint. Please keep the epic music coming.
From what I'm hearing on the two songs they have released, they are going for a more open and slower writing style on this album. I don't really see that as a downside. I think the writing is still there and the way the song builds and keeps the tension is really amazing. It comes to a wonderful climax with the fast part and then the falling action keeps you into it till the very end. I have high hopes for this record. I have a lot of respect for artists who switch it up. Remember experimentation does not equal complexity and complexity is not what makes a song good.
Popabuddy1 I never said it did. I said if you slowed these new songs down, they sound very generic. Only detail I forgot was to direct that comment onto these songs specifically, not their older work.
no there just giving us the buns when we want the meat :D but this like them tasty pretzel buns from steak an shake mmmmmmmm vant wait for that meat doe 😆
Probably one of the best intro riffs I've ever heard... Seriously can't get it out of my head ever since I heard it. Great song guys! So stoked for Juggernaut!!
Ryan Sadauskis I covered a Tesseract song (Nocturne) and people actually liked it hahahaha, I guess it was the melody of Ashe's voice that made people like it? LOL
i must admit when i first heard it for the first 2 minutes i was like ehh its okay but then that 3 minute mark came in and i was impressed by far . Spencer's vocals in this are on point by the way ! i like the build up and how you guys went about it . does not sound like anything you guys have made so far and thats what i like about it regardless of people being mad about you changing your sound i believe this is a step into the right direction . I will be buying this album .
I really enjoy the way this is mixed, it's similar to hearing actual amplifiers in a live setting which is extremely refreshing. Can't wait to hear the rest if the album!
I have got to learn the solo to this song! Gawdamn! I can only imagine myself about to play infront of some soild 8.5's lol and they ask if I can play anything.. "I can only play one bad thing" *insert solo* Panties dropped lmao But on the real, misha or mark in a couple months you should totally make a tutorial video for that sound.
Where do I recognize that intro riff from? It's hard to pinpoint because I have a million Bulb tracks so it could be like 8 years old or off some quick video where Misha played a random riff that now ended up in this song, or something. But I've heard that riff before for sure.
Looking forward to hearing these albums beginning to end, how they are intended to be listened to. Loving the harsh commenting, like all music needs to be crazy, 320bmp thrash beginning to end or else you aren't metal. Love the music, love the art, love what you guys are doing (periphery).
I just listened to the song from start to finish with some sweet iems after buying the track off of iTunes. I have to say the mix is very nice. Well rounded and the comping of the kick and rhythm sections is super tight. Awesome job Nolly and all of you for that matter. No matter what these trolls say, you are all still excellent musicians and writers. I personally thank you for this (what seems so far to be) excellent album.
+Gabriel Landim I thought that for awhile then Scourge became one of my favorites on the album. This album took a minute to grow on me because it was so different, but now that i'm on the other side it's a masterpiece imo.
NotYourAverageUser I'm not judging it at all, I already pre-ordered the bundle with that awesome hoodie, dvd + 2 cd's , posters etc because I believe this will be their best work, and I'm just a fan so there's that xD. It's just that most songs in P2 had a lot of guitar fills in it that made it bombastic
DeeZaster I agree with you and i ordered the hoodie haha, so far it seems it more about build up than the riffing found in P2, however there were some awesome ass riffs in the studio videos so im pretty sure they are still just teasing us. I cant wait to hear all of Juggernaut.
Spencer is really shining here, love his vocal performance.
Oy
@@larkkenmars3306 😙
Usually i dispise his vocals, but this one slaps
This older dude (about 40) at a store called FYE walked up to me told me to check this band and whitechapel out. I wish I could go back and thank him
Both are incredible bands, that guy was a hero
Oh no. I’m 37, so pretty soon I’ll be that “older dude”… 😩😩😂
i feel bad for the people who can't just sit and listen to something new without immediately comparing it to the past. love how heavy and intense this is.
I've come from the future to tell you II is still the best.
I've come from the future to inform you that this song is a deeply studied subject in the curriculum of badassery
I am furthering the trend of approaching you from a time past your own, allowing you knowledge that this track is bombastic.
That statement can't possibly make sense. Isn't everything relative?
I am sadly a victim
I've loved Periphery ever since Misha was writing under Bulb, I'll never forget the first Periphery songs that hooked me, The Fast Ones and Icarus Lives. would love to hear "Breeze" get some vocals
Misha respond to this guy. Give him love not the trolls hahah.
Respect.
this is sooo fucking sick
Cover time. Now.
Taylor Cathcart i support that idea
Cover tiiiiiiieeeeem!
COVER, DOOD, COVER DAT SHIT NOW
You know what to do buddy :D
Some say this is the best Periphery they've ever heard.. I say this is the best Periphery I've ever heard

Stranger things has a couple of references to 22 faces I noticed
If you like that kind of shit, check out Persefone's album Spiritual Migration.
They do it in 22 faces too with the “tearing a hole inside” part

The Bad Thing by Periphery
Sometimes there's a crack in the world
That I can peer through
to see it for what it really is
There's an ugly face staring back
Demons are everywhere,
they draw the hatred from inside of me
There are times at the top of the Earth
That I wish I could throw everyone and everything
Watch the mountains snap the necks of the hypocrites,
I'm bathing in the thought of it.
The severed dreams of all the weak
Quenching thirst inside of me
and the scream it holds the key
Unlocking this for all to see
Fly past the trees
Ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the leaves
Transcend these earthly boundaries
Fly past the trees
Ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the leaves
Transcend their fucking boundaries
Isn't this desire that you're looking for?
or is insanity just knocking on you're door
Give me just a piece and surely you will find
everything is better on the other side
can you look within and find what is in store
This life is but a scream that has become your whore
It's tearing a hole inside
You're buried alive
Sometimes there's a hole in the earth
that i can step through
to get away from the twisting of tongues
It looks a lot like a grave when I'm staring up
Feeling the soil creeping over me
There are times at the top of the earth
that i wish i could throw everyone and everything
Watch the mountains snap the necks of the hypocrites,
I'm bathing in the thought of it
I'd like a reason just to help them bleed
Give me a reason come on give it to me
Give me a reason
Give me a fucking reason HAH
Give me a reason

The first two blanks are (What) and (Surrounds) i believe. what do you think?
Thank you! I needed this so I can sing along by myself haha. The chorus is amazing.
Awesome production.... particularly the bass in my opinion. You are the man Nolly!!! Great Melodies Spencer!!
Too bad the bass isn't particularly interesting. Follows the guitar note for note 90% of the time. Good tone though.
Really cool solo! Those licks are silky smooth! Transcribed!
I might do a lesson. I am transcribing with a pencil and paper! Just finding some nice fingerings for the smoother lines. Plus there that jazzy 16th note triplet phrase that I am not 100% on, but I have got something fairly close!
SamBellGuitar You do, I subscribe. Okay? Good.
***** Don't know why I felt the need to type that with the accent of a Russian hooker.
Thanks! I'd love to see a transcription.
Yess, this sounds amazing. Now the hype train for this new album just went into overdrive!!!
OMG spencer vocals!!!it just keeps gettin better and better.he's screams are just so brutal
FINALLY! THE SONG FROM MISHAS GUITAR MIXING VIDEO! FINALLY! YES!!!!
Spencer is amazing me so far. His vocals will definitely be the shining part of this album, and i couldn't be happier!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that beginning guitar riff and just all of the guitar on this song...
3:15 is insane, the buildup to it at around 2:59 is really good but when spencers vocals kick in it just becomes ten times better.
^ This
Truth.
i agree, this song will fucking wreck live
Words can not describe the conflict between choosing a favorite song by Periphery. The attention to detail on every song throughout all the album's they've ever created sounds amazing on the recordings as well as live. I love you guyz, and I'm sure you all love each other. Your sound could not be created without all six members and it's truly something special for people who... sleep with a fan at night.
you people realize this is a dual album concept piece, not Periphery 3: We Just Want to Make You Happy, right?
Yeah: chug-chug-chugga chugchug. VERY ORIGINAL LULULULULULULUULULULULUL
Christian Leiss Pretty obvious you don't know the first thing about singing, because Spencer's vocals are fantastic in this song.
EternallyInebriated My vocal range is nearly 4 octaves. Spencer does have good control, but his timbre is whiny.
I don't care what anyone says, this whole song is dope. Especially at 4:20, love the vocal melodies there.
Espicially if you're smoking weed
Christian Karcher DURHURHUR
Sooooo fucking good
Oh boy all my favourite riffs from those videos all in a song. What else could I ask for! FUCKING AWESOME PERIPHERY
Well said man. That is, basically what Ive been thinkin since I heard The Scourge!
Vilexistent Couldn't have said it better myself.
Just as I thought haha, they're not even singles as I had referred to them. Either way, can't wait for the whole thing.
I could replay 2:27-3:22 for like five hours and still not get sick of it
Funny how established musicians love it, and people with no videos, no content, usually no avi, and nothing to offer say it's not good enough for them. This track wrecks, I can't wait to hear the full story
Yep, suddenly everyone (at least the plebs who shits on this) is a musical genius.
The fact that Periphery is always willing to experiment and progress is what makes me respect them so much. Really excited for this new album and really love this song too!
DAT LOW END!!! Loving this!
Periphery are gods among men. Beyond stoked for these records to drop.
Best Periphery song, in my opinion
The group chants/vocals are impressive, I'd love to hear more. So glad I pre-ordered this.
This song is the reason I found Periphery :)
Yes same
I've been here since periphery I
I've been here since Bulb
Here since a little before the Clear EP
Every time i see a new Periphery song on TH-cam, I like to search for Misha's comments because in reality he is crushing a young kid's soul with his keyboard skills. Also, this song is killer.
"Sometimes there's a hole in the earth..."
Deftones reference?
Love this song!
I fell in love with that intro riff/groove when I first heard it, glad they turned it into a song! Such amazing composition
I remember that intro riff! I remember hearing it in some of the studio episodes and perhaps a gear demo here and there :P
He definitely did it for the guitar recording tutorial.
You probably remember it from that new nickelback song periphery tend to grab riffs from those guys
God actual damn. You guys only keep rocking harder and harder. This is my new favorite jam.
LYRICS:
Sometimes there's a crack in the world
That I can peer through
to see it for what it really is
There's an ugly face staring back
Demons are everywhere,
they draw the hatred from inside of me
There are times at the top of the Earth
That I wish I could throw everyone and everything
__ except the knees of the hypocrites
and bathing in the thought of it
Severing dreams of all the weak
Clenching fists inside of me
In the scream it holds the key
Locking this for all to see
Fly past the trees
Ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the lease
Transcend these earthly boundaries
Fly past the trees
Ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the lease
Transcend the fucking boundaries
And is it this desire that you're looking for
or is insanity that's knocking on you're door
yeah give me just a piece and surely you will find
everything is better on the other side
but can you look within and find what is in store
This life is by the scream that has become your whore
That's tearing a hole inside
You're buried alive
Sometimes there's a hole in the earth
that i can step through
to get away from the twisting of tongues

There are times at the top of the earth

My attempt, Sponce/Misha confirm pls:
Sometimes there's a crack in the world that I can peer through,
And see it for what it really is.
There’s an ugly face staring back at demons of everyone,
They draw the hatred from inside of me.
There were times at the top of the Earth that I wish that I could throw,
Everyone and everything.
Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites,
Abating in the thought of it.
Severed dreams of all the weak - quenching thirst inside of me,
And the scream it holds the key - unlocking this for all to see
Fly past the trees, ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the leaves, transcend these earthly boundaries

But can you look within and find what is in store?
This life is but a scream that has become your whore
It's tearing a hole inside, you'll bury your life
Sometimes there's a hole in the Earth that I can slip through,
To get away from the twisting of tongues.
There was a love I could greet without tearing up,
Feel the desire creeping over me.
There were times at the top of the Earth that I wish that I could throw,
Everyone and everything.
Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites,
Abating in the sight of it.
I’d like a reason just to help them bleed.

Give me a reason, fucking give me a reason.
Ah-Ah give me a reason, come on give it to me.

Far from the leaves,
Fly past the trees, ascend to holy air and breathe
Far from the leaves, transcend the earthly boundaries
And is it this desire that you're looking for?
Or is insanity just knocking at your door?
And give me just some peace and surely you will find -
Everything is better on the other side.

vbdude006 I've been wondering if it's maybe "Far from the lees", a lee being a place where one might take shelter, hide, etc. from weather or turbulance. Hard to say
Colin Rich I was guessing "leaves" since the line previous talks about "fly from the trees". One can hide behind leaves too. Hard to say. I had the greatest trouble trying to decipher the "Watch surrounding symphonies of the hypocrites,
Abating in the thought of it." line.
Jonathan Yandura Thanks man, lets hope so. Can't wait to see the album booklet and see what I got right/wrong. Its always a fun game to play!
This riff seriously destroys. Slaughters. Kills. Been waiting so long to hear the whole song!
Is it bad I've been a Periphery fan so long I can tell which guitarist is soloing. Totally a Mark Solo. Btw. Met him. He's awesome.
BFF
Dude! Your style of playing is sick, Mark!
Do you stare into his windows when his sleeping out night aswell?
No. Haha. But I have been a fan from the beginning. Even Haunted Shores.
damn dude, song after song, spencer brings so many melodies. The dude has vocals, melodies, range.
The instant the drums kicked in I knew that the riff was from Mishas tutorial. That riff is tits and so is Marks solo!
Keep doing what makes you happy Misha Mansoor and co! Personally I'm digging it, with no thought of genre, or past endeavors. It's just great music.
this song still gives me chills
This is fucking great! 5 minutes of the Periphery approach toward a new versatile sounding album. in love. very excited!
I love how Misha is just recking all the trolls. Made my day.
The last clean chorus always gives me chills, Spencer's range is incredible
From what I'm hearing on the two songs they have released, they are going for a more open and slower writing style on this album. I don't really see that as a downside. I think the writing is still there and the way the song builds and keeps the tension is really amazing. It comes to a wonderful climax with the fast part and then the falling action keeps you into it till the very end. I have high hopes for this record. I have a lot of respect for artists who switch it up. Remember experimentation does not equal complexity and complexity is not what makes a song good.
The thing is, if you take their music and slow it down... it sounds like every other band in existence.
John Crichton
That's not what I'm hearing, but hey, I never said music wasn't subjective. (which is debatable but shhh)
John Crichton I wonder where you got the idealism that slow music creates generic music...
Periphery has a dynamic that only a few have achieved. Musical geniuses
Been waiting to see house this riff would be used :P
It was housed well
Dr. House approves!
I am no longer homeless.
Probably one of the best intro riffs I've ever heard... Seriously can't get it out of my head ever since I heard it. Great song guys! So stoked for Juggernaut!!
DONT READ THE COMMENTS DONT READ THE COMMENTS DONT READ THE COMMENTS DONT READ THE COMMENTS DONT READ THE COMMENTS
***** I went and read the comments. I lol'd.
Why I listen to you guys! Song is KILLER. Bridge is so dope. Spencer's voice is still the best in the game.
I wanna cover this for a school performance, but I'm afraid I might scare everyone with the pure awesomeness of this song.
That's what I always think! Cover a song for a talent show or something that's super fucking metal and scare the shit out if everybody. Haha
***** cover it with a burrito :) hahaha!
DoctaDrake Yeah you're right hahaha. I also really like Hell Below too, its so fucking dark and sludgy hahahaha!!!
Ryan Sadauskis I covered a Tesseract song (Nocturne) and people actually liked it hahahaha, I guess it was the melody of Ashe's voice that made people like it? LOL
Thanks my man, that really means a lot!!! :)
Amazing guys! Love that Misha re-used his recording tips riff for the album :P

"Give me a raisin come on give me the raisin, yeah, yeah, give me a raisin come on give it to mee~"
I can't hear anything else help me oh my god
Reverie he makes a lot of e's in words sound like a's so I don't blame you
But it sounds so good
total essence !
I just listen for the vibe , the bounce & my peace . Seriously it is the Gaz of total existence .
No lie, his singing voice made me finally admit that I was bisexual. I wouod have that man's babies gladly.
This song is incredible, I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album! Solid job guys!
Spencer's djent vocals sound great.
i must admit when i first heard it for the first 2 minutes i was like ehh its okay but then that 3 minute mark came in and i was impressed by far . Spencer's vocals in this are on point by the way ! i like the build up and how you guys went about it . does not sound like anything you guys have made so far and thats what i like about it regardless of people being mad about you changing your sound i believe this is a step into the right direction . I will be buying this album .
"There are times at the top of the earth, that I wish I can throw everybody everyday"
Am I the only one who can relate to this?
Haha everyday

I love this song, the guitar has so much punch! Hope to see you guys live someday!
Much dj0nt. Such groove. Many wow.
You are so genius to make that kind and quality of music !!! i cant understand what a human can think about to make this masterpiece !!!!
1:42 awesomeness made out of simple elements. Hard to achieve and a fucking pleasure to the ears.
Absolutely! And I love the mean ass riff at 2:53 and the beauty that lies at 3:58...Okay fine, I love the whole thing.
Both songs have been awesome and unique. Stoked for the albums
This song begs to be played at extreme volumes from the stereo of a pre-runner flying over desert trails at 90MPH.
Shit now I miss my pre runner. Got a FORD FUCKIN RANGER now lol
@@Swarm4570 turn into a FORD FUCKING PRERANGER
Everything I hoped for! Heavy and groovy. I bet this will be a good one live
"I have an opinion!"
"HOW DARE you have an opinion!? Let me tell you about MY opinion."
"Misha: Here's my two cents."
-All the comments
I really enjoy the way this is mixed, it's similar to hearing actual amplifiers in a live setting which is extremely refreshing. Can't wait to hear the rest if the album!
I have got to learn the solo to this song! Gawdamn! I can only imagine myself about to play infront of some soild 8.5's lol and they ask if I can play anything..
"I can only play one bad thing"
*insert solo*
Panties dropped lmao
But on the real, misha or mark in a couple months you should totally make a tutorial video for that sound.
awesome haha
Periphery still going strong. Been a fan since 09! I love how they keep maturing. Excellent work yet again
Where do I recognize that intro riff from? It's hard to pinpoint because I have a million Bulb tracks so it could be like 8 years old or off some quick video where Misha played a random riff that now ended up in this song, or something. But I've heard that riff before for sure.
It's actually from his guitar recording tips video! I heard it too!
It's from one of his recent guitar recording videos, I think..
I could have sworn I heard it in one of their songs while I was listening to spotify
/watch?v=er9VhozNHNk
Recognized it as soon as i heard the song!
Omg the vocals and drums are banging on this track
This album is like a sexual experience for your soul good lord
Looking forward to hearing these albums beginning to end, how they are intended to be listened to. Loving the harsh commenting, like all music needs to be crazy, 320bmp thrash beginning to end or else you aren't metal. Love the music, love the art, love what you guys are doing (periphery).
AGCFAD? am i right? :/
ya. You can learn it from Songsterr super easily if you can read tabs.
Heavy and fantastic, excited for the album, gents!
2:45
so this is what Michael Phelps was listening to.
huh?
I think it's a reference to Michael Phelps angry face during this past Olympics.
xD
I didn't get the reference u were making either until I read the other comments and realized I was sitting at work making the same face lol
Can't wait for the new albums. Stoked.

I like this waaaay more than The Scourge.
Me too! This is great, but The Scourge is very melodramatic for me haha
+Gabriel Landim I thought that for awhile then Scourge became one of my favorites on the album. This album took a minute to grow on me because it was so different, but now that i'm on the other side it's a masterpiece imo.
This is the best of the three songs they put out so far
Why can't people just enjoy? If you don't enjoy it you don't need to write a bias biography on it.
Fantastic. Great solo mark! Over the top!
Although I do have to say it feels a bit more empty guitar wise, when you compare it to some songs from P2.
You can't compare one song to P2. Also, this has more stuff going on guitar wise than Ragnarok for example.
Bennie Hill exactly they don't want to give too much away haha I ordered that grey hoodie. It's so awesome ;-;
Haha ya I know neither of these tracks have been singles, they are good at teasing haha. I got the black omega hoodie
It's so cool to see comments from Misha on some of his videos, let's you know he cares about his fans.
Can a periphery fan since their first ep tell me what they think of this please
It's meh
Those two replies sum it up pretty well haha!
It's powerful and melodic! i think it's a really great song!
it's good
Still good.
Keep experimenting music and putting out awesome guys! You remain onw of my favorite bands along with Between The Buried And Me and Protest The Hero.
This sounds like if Slipknot was prog (and emo)
everybody has lifted there game so much for this album and it shows because this song is one of the best songs ive ever heard
