Tip for anyone who wants to make one, let's say for example his acrylic was 1'' thick, and he etched straight on to that piece, its gonna work as shown in the video, but if you were to buy two .5'' pieces of acrylic and etch on to one of them then put the other piece over it, it will give a much better effect :)
Hi, do you say glue the second 0.5'' unengraved acrylic piece on top of the other engraved piece? I don't understand!
I have found so many interesting things to make, this Emblem light and the Infinity mirror are 2 of the projects i want to try
+MizutayioGP Same
Same
me to
It's been 4 years, how are the projects?
@@starflash7076 Couldn't do them, Depression hit me in the face. Ask me in another 4 years.
If you use a vinyl cutter, you can cut stencils out of vinyl, stick the vinyl on the acryllic, sand blast your design, remove the vinyl and BAMN.. theres your logo and it looks professional!
I remember the kids with Stanly blades on The Football Factory . Lol !!! Great light idea btw !
ok i definitely need to make something, i have this issue where im tired and go to bed and suddenly my brain goes into creative mode and seeing stuff like this dosnt help XD
I have the same problem
me too xD
I can understand bro..
Ong me too
its because you are bored trying to go to sleep so your brain tries to get you to do something. I have the same probem
This is beautiful, and SO SIMPLE to do!! I can't believe it! If I saw this thing, lit up in a dark room, I would've thought the process of making it was FAR more complex! This gives me some ideas for a project that I had in mind. At least now I know I can build it more simply.
Thanks for dropping a "NICE" in there. :D
you're welcome :)
I know, I'm easily amused.
***** can you link the item you take on ebay please?

Cactus Makeshop my culo is nice tooo
Good stuff man thank you for showing people that they can engrave on acrylic without a CNC laser or engraver. I love you for doing this, not everyone has access to that kind of stuff.
alternately, at michael's they used to sell 'sandblasting in a can.' i used it once, and i suppose it works well enough to rough up an acrylic surface. use some spray adhesive on the back of your stencil (probably a thin card stock would be better, not sure if the sand-in-a-can stuff would go through regular paper easily), go outside and in a few minutes you should have a brilliant result without all the effort, not to mention a much cleaner product.
Great project. I didn't know you could etch acrylic with a rotary tool. Your video sparks so many ideas for designs.
This is REALLY COOL.
Thanks for the inspiration. I just made on with what i had laying around real quickly to check the principal. I used a old acrylic baseball card holder about (5mm) a 6" string of red leds, a 9V Battery with a toggle and just slotted out a USPS small mail poriority box. It worked perfectly, well for a quick demonstration. I would suggest using 220 grit sandpaper as it will come out so much faster and more refined (its just the right thickness for speed and quality smoothness) and maybe just use the rotory around the edges to accentuate the borders to be more exact. Thats just a suggestion and nothing else...yours came out GREAT!! I just think It would just save you a bit of time.. Thanks for the video!
Pro-tip: Much easier and faster is to use a glass etching cream like Armor Etch.
Build a mini lego Gotham behind the Bat emblem and a couple of Batman and Joker mini figs duking it out in front! Great DIY, great vid. Going to try this myself!
Am I the only one who likes that he says "Nice" :D
Diamond bucket
:D
Nice:D
Nicely done mist8k. Your build instructions were clear and concise.
If you were to mount the LEDs under the base but NOT to the acrylic AND NOT hot glue the acrylic to the base you could change out numerous designs at your leisure without redoing another base. Well done !
You want to add batman Lego figures. Man that's brilliant. Thumbs up.
Having dealt with a few glass etchers, I realize that there are a couple of things you could do to make it even better:
1. Having broken down the stencil, you could have etched the edge and the symbol (circle and batman emblem) on either side, so that each side has something to reflect.
2. Take more time and focus on different features you want in your emblem, such as wing bones and such, or shading, so that it's carved deeper than the rest. This will create a 3D effect
3. Now that you have those two options taken, Instead of stripping the center of your base with LED, you could double the strip so that the LEDs are on either side of the glass, allowing for different colours shining through and a more 3D effect.
Just and idea.
Could you please post a video, explaining in more detail what you mean.
They sell etching paste at craft stores that may make the pattern transfer easier.
+Susanne D. Smith THANK YOU SO MUCHH I didn't want to buy a tool just for this!
That's creative and totally awesome. I'm also a Batman fan. That's definitely something I would love to have on my bedside table
When i watch these videos I remember the old art attack show that was on tv
COOL THIS IS THE COOLEST LED EMBLEM I HAVE EVER SEEN
Now put some lego batman figurines on the base
Omg perfect...
Yes I am 3 years late but who gives a shit
I've made stuff like this with acrylic, I used a (dont have the english word for it) one of those things, that uses air pressure to shoot out a good amount of sand onto surfaces.
If you can get a hold of one of those, might be called a sanding chamber? You could save loads of time and get a really nice finish. If you ever feel like making more like this :)
It's call sandblasting. But you can't only use paper to cover the acrylic glass?
Anthony Veilleux Sandblasting, thanks for that. But yeah paper would probably be destroyed in an instant. I used a thin sheet of plastic for my stencils/templates. Took a little while to cut them out, but they could be used again and again, so the time making the stencils was worth it.
I wish he would link some of the items he uses :(
+MusicFreeTage Amazon.
that is for sure one of the coolest projects ive seen in a very long time!!!!!
Could you do this with rough sand paper?
+NADQuest yep it will just take you longer
NADQuest lol exactly what i was thinking
This is something that I love seeing and long ago when I first seen the video. I am hoping to get around to make this as well something close to it. Thanks for sharing it with us long ago.
For us the lego fans this was a little bit of torture :/
nahhh now you can decorate it with batman figures
ye but he destroyed a lego base plate.
Night Elf It was actually the TOP of a lego BOX. So not that big of a deal.
Haha! No shit. Agreed. Especially coming from me.
It would have hurt a little less had it been a Lego symbol.
Very cool Project
I made this for mothersday with my mothers name on it
I'd just like to say thank you this will make a nice Christmas present going to try it
Looks like you made a... mist8k? :D
hahaha
That's way cool! Thanks for showing the emblem light build up.
l'm going to attempt this onto my PC window, wish me luck.
Hey I want to do the same on my window, did it work out for u?
great work and thank you for sharing that.
I had done one but I am having a hard time getting the debris out of cutting areas without scratching, any advice??
thank you again.
Happy days
How did you connect the LED cable to a power source?
It has a recharchable battery that you connect to the white piece and a wireless chip that connects to the remote for it
xXSUPERZOMBIEXx Thanks!
+Gavin Robertson Just search 'RGB LED strip' on eBay and there should be lots come up. I've got some above some curtains to give a glow in the room and they are remote control.
NICE.....Loved this Vid, Can see me getting rather busy once I show my granddaughters it.

Looks great. I already have all the stuff except for the decals. I'm gonna make three: an Autobot logo , a Decepticon logo and the Triforce from Zelda.
I am wondering if acetone would etch the Plexiglas. I thin it will. What you can do is a negative etch by using the template and dripping wax on it then remove the template and brush the rest with your acetone and when you rinse it off, it will etch a negative of your template then just remove the wax and you are done. Only problem I see is getting the wax off easily but it will look better then using a power etcher. I think this will work. any comments are welcome. I could be an idiot here but I think it should work without blowing up anything or starting any fires that is. LOL.
I'd just go to the next fab lab and use a laser (provided they have a USP laser), a milling machine (fine contours are gonna be a problem probably) or sandblast it into the acrylic.
Vu wow, I have a milling machine right here in my back pocket right next to my sandblaster and my laser etcher, NOT. I bet if you asked people in your neighborhood how many of them have any of those machines you would find out that NONE of them do.
John Miranda
Google "fab lab" before making fun of people. I have one close to home.
The point of the video is to make it at home with few if any unusual tools or specialty equipment. Once you start mentioning equipment that most people do not have at home then you pretty obviously missed the point of the video. The suggestion I made was to use acetone and candle wax that can be found in most peoples bathrooms or hall closets. You suggested a milling machine or a laser. So yes, I made fun of your suggestion. It was dumb. Not saying you are dumb but your suggestions was dumb.
Nope, the "at home" part is purely your implication. Going to the next fab lab to get a milling job (if one is close of course) is no different from going to the next DIY store to get the acrylic, or are you missing the point of the video if you don't order it off ebay so you don't have to step outside?
Fab labs are there for things like this. Empowering individuals to create stuff with professional equipment with results that look professional. I'm lucky enough, I have one 10 minutes from home and another one at college which is 20 mins from home. I'm just saying that this possibility exists and it's as valid as your suggestion with the wax+acetone.
Well that looks easier than I thought it would be! Now I want to make one!
you could just paste a tracing paper on the acrylic instead of carving it.. same effect.. less tedious
Thanx for sharing. I wanna build a lite similar to this. It really helps seeing the steps.
It's pretty cool because you could also stick some lego batman characters to the front.
Awesome project ,quick & simple!
I'm planning to do something the same in near future.
Thanks for grate idea!
stick a lego batman and a batmobile on the front
I
Like kipKay, but better. No time hogging ad's. You sir, have earned a sub
please please, can somebody tell me the name of the music during the first half of the video?
Sports Card by craigriley's on freesfx.co.uk
***** thank you! great video by the way.
***** yo dude can you please make me a Atlanta thrashers thank you
Darude-Sandstorm
HalfDayClosing just shazam it with the shazam app shazam listens to the song and tells you what it is
I love your videos , and the way you present them! Super personality, Super Delivery! And you use several American words, like "Nifty" LOL! Keep em coming!
Can I make the fairy tail guild logo?
Bloodymind36 NO
Why?
Bloodymind36 sorry dude, that was only for batman logo
I meant like I can make one myslef
Bloodymind36 You probably can, just find a good quality template of the logo and then use that to carve out.
Cool af. Props for saying 'Stanley Knife' and not 'Box Cutter' !
i wanna do this with an arc reactor
Flipping Great idea! Now to create a superman one!
You could add lego Batman, Robin, and Joker figures to the base. That would look really cool.
That is pretty cool, i would say use Electroluminescent lighting but then you wouldn't have the advantage of colour changing lights. Looks awesome!!
You should put some Batman Lego figures on the stand
Wow that was so exciting! Because I exclamatory everything!
You should put Lego batman in front of the emblem
That looks professional.
Someone should make the rebel alliance symbol or the imperial symbol
OMGAH I REMEBER SUBBING U 3 YEARS BACK. I WATCHED BOTH YOU AND KING OF RANDOM
Who else is way to lazy to make anything he makes
+NERDGAMER1445 RTER Just laser it, easier, faster and lazier ;p
I just don't have the tools.. I mean, who has an etching tool and hot glue gun lying around?
If only I could hit the "like" button about a thousand more times!
This is awesome!
You did not explain the power supply.
What are those colored wires? What connector did you use? What is powering the thing?
At school, we have a laser cutter, it provides similar results with vector/raster etching.
Hey, I'm doing this project, can I use normal LEDs instead of the LED strip you used? It would be easyer because I would plug a battery and a resistance in series...
Does it have to be that thick? Or can it be thin?
A+. Looks like the start of something else? Should LED lights be put inside the plastic sheet during the manufacturing of plastic? Maybe a semitransparent or close to a transparent LED display.
Very cool! Excellent project for creative people with patience. :)
For that spot where you went outside the line, perhaps a CD scratch repair kit could come in handy. They include some agent with a similar index of refraction. Alternatively, I've heard car wax can mend a scratched CD in a pinch, so it might be worth a try.
thank you! 2 questions...
did you etch the other side of the acrylic block?
and if i sanded the whole surface of the acrylic block, the whole block would emit light right?
1. Likely, otherwise the other side won't have any shape.
2. yes, but if there is no shape, then it's quite boring.
jolanpiep i agree with 2 but with 1 he didn't etch the other side because the front is the only side that is displayed. The back is where the wire comes out from so you don't want that to be the side people see .
did anybody notice when he was talking about the rotary tool attatchments he put the pictures up in the wrong order... Apart from that I did this project and it Turned out great! same with the infinity mirror as well. I am subbed...
Would be cool to go the extra mile and get a little lego figure of Batman to stand on the plate. Really awesome lamp!
That's pretty badass. I'm not even in to arts and crafts but Batman is awesome
Thats a great build, nice one!
Looks so HARD and its SOOOO EASY , NICE !
Cool project but I was wondering of there were any alternatives to the dremle and the acrylic? Coz those things are hard to find at the place where I live
That was the most awesome DIY ever!!!
Does anyone else want Andy's "Nice" as their ringtone?
You can always use real glass as well as acrylic , as long as it isnt too scratched up, and use a sandblaster on the back for the same frosted look, with less room for error plus its much faster and easier. And if you dont have a stencil, you can cover the glass or acrylic with masking tape, print out a picture online, trace it onto the tape, and cut it out with a hobby knife.
Can we use other tools intead of using a rotary rotary tool?
2thumbs up for creativity n explanations guys!!!
This is pretty freakin cool I should try it
Jesus, man, this is brilliant.
After watching your projects am guaranteed to be broke for some time n I love it
how to scratch it without that tool?
How thick was your acrylic sheet?
Hi, cool video. I have a question. I don't have a rotory tool, but an engraver with up-down motion, will it work on acrylic? I never worked on acrylic before, because it is hard to find in my area, but i did some engraves on glass will it be ok?
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing!
Omg Thx for teaching me how to make this I have been finding this for almost forever and I do not know the name of it!
You're the man. Your works are awesome.
that rocks!!!! I'm planning on making case mods to a old computer and wasn't sure what to do with the side that I can't light up... with fans led strip lights bells buzzers and dohickies
If you have access to a laser engraver I would suggest that! I did this with one and it looks sweet!
awesome job man ! neat and clean
i just love the way u say "NICE"
I love the tutorials. And I adore your accent!!!
is there a way to make something like this but with moving figures?
I like this a lot! Thxz for the instructions!
can you please tell me the measurements of the acrylic block or even the link for where you brought it, i love love this idea!!
