      PreBCFan1 I'm assuming that you already did it, but based on my memory of that case, it should be fairly easy to install the plexi with lightstrip directly to the side panel with adhesive strips or the like.
      If you already completed it, do you have pics on pcpartpicker?

    As an updated touch you can get super fine etchings using a Brother Scan N Cut with Zoom's etching tool. The Scan N Cut can handle materials up to 3mm thick. In this case it would be used in draw mode with the etching tool inserted into the tool head. There are three different tip sizes (broad, medium, fine). You then adjust the settings for the cutter to those specified in the instructions for that particular tool. The machine will produce an estimated time to completion on its 5 inch color touchscreen display. Once done it will eject the mat and material loaded onto it.

      jeanne bitar >> The reason why most DIY channels doesen't respond to a lot of people is due to the sheer number of subscribers and comments. It is impossible to keep up with almost all the comments, while still posting new content, if a channel has a lot of subs. A day only lasts 24 hours and most of that time is used on sleeping 😊 But awesome videos anyways. Got a few logos of my own, that I definitely will try out at some point

    I like the idea.
    Suggest sanding-sealer on all wood surfaces to fill grain and sanding marks, fine sand to create smooth surface, then a couple of coats of gloss black acrylic paint followed by a gloss clearcoat, and your base will look professional and high-tech to match the project (rather than country-rustic with the raw wood, which also shows fingerprint stains after time from oils, hard to clean off dust, etc.).

    ive had a stack of plexi in my garage that came from hardware store scrap... hated cutting the shit by scoring.. on a recommendation I got a 80 tooth blade for my miter saw. 27 bucks at harbor freight has made cutting plexi a easy. Bonding 2 pieces does not require expensive glue/weld liquid unless you are using the really expensive double linked lexan plexi. simple hardware store acetone and clamping for a few hrs will create the same bond.

    Hello. I have a vintage glass sign without the lightbox. What would you charge to make me a custom lighted stand to fit my sign? The sign is 12 inches long X 8 inches tall. The thickness of the glass is about an 8th of an inch. Thanks.

  • @1to1class
    @1to1class 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome design, very inspiring! Can you engrave outside the premade stencil letters? Or for mass production, can you make letter A-Z numbers 0-9 using heavy-duty cardboard? Also, is it possible to combine the USB LED strip with hybrid solar-powered battery? The battery can be hidden inside the wood panel, with the solar strip glued in the back facing the windows, then you would have a perpetual LED sign. Obviously you can spend more money using the scan&cut machine to automate the process. Haha... just a thought, from a not-so-diy-adept person.

      @techydiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another great piece of work!
    Two questions, though:
    1) How do you prevent the Dremel from damaging the ruler while engraving, and
    2) How deep do you have to engrave? Just scratch the surface, or halfway through the material?
    Thanks for the great ideas.

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The engraver I used vibrates rather than rotates, so it does not damage the edge of the ruler. The engraving iss not very deep, 0.5 - 1mm, it only takes a scratch to show the light. Thanks for your comments.

    Love your DIYs,
    a quickie (?) though, is there anyway we could give the illusion mirror effect to an acrylic emblem/sign themed light??

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can combine the two. Engrave the rear mirror (preferably laser engraved), edge light it and then put a two way mirror in front. It gives a 3d effect to the engraving. The right design would look cool.
      I have been meaning to build one as a project for a few years now but never got around to it. However I did mock it up at one point and it worked.

    What the likely hood of the wires catching on fire? does it produce enough voltage to burn?

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The led strip voltage is 12 volts, so it's a safe voltage to work with. The led strip generates a very small amount of heat which is easily dissipated, so no it doesn't get hot.

    Nigel, have you tried combining the edge-lit design with the infinity mirror design?? I'm super curious to know if you can engrave into either the front side partial reflector or a third middle sheet of clear acrylic sandwiched between the back and front reflector, and then still see the scattered light exiting from the engraved pattern. I think you're more qualified to try this before I do :)

      Yes, I have and will publish a project fairly soon. With the sheet in the middle approach you also get another set of weaker reflections, making the 3d effect more solid.

      Awesome!! Looking forward to it. Or maybe I'll beat you to it... :)

      Follow-up: have you tried the infinity mirror setup with two partial reflectors rather than an opaque backside reflector? I assume that it would produce weaker reflections (not as much infinity..) but be visible from both sides??

    Do you think I could solder using a switching adapter if it’s the correct voltage?

    • @techydiy
      @techydiy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not quite sure what you mean. You can use a switch mode power supply.

      techydiy oh thank you. I found out for myself. I was just wondering if the label on the adapter has to say DC power adapter. Mine works but it says ‘switching adapter’.

    a lot of expensive tools were used in the making of a mirror.. if you dont have these tools you better of just buying the mirror already made. Other then that awesome DIY!!!
