Will is playing a Paramount plectrum banjo to which he has added a 5th string. When I visited him at home in 2000, he had just bought a second one but not yet added the string.
I had acquired that 20s Paramount in a trade in 1969 but the rickety Gibson copy neck on it never quite worked & I'm sad to say that it wound up as a wall hanger. I had admired Will's playing for years and knew he loved old Paramount pots &. I sold it to him in the 90s. Eventually he found another Paramount plectrum neck, installed a fifth string peg in the side and made his own customized peghead design, with "W. A. Keys Jr." in the banner instead of "Paramount." What a player he was!
Wonderful tune and an excellent recording. I’m curious to know how this was recorded? Each instrument is very clear & well balanced, but I cannot locate a mic anywhere in the picture. I would appreciate any feedback as we have been trying diligently to get a good clean sound like this on our Oldtime videos. Would love to know your secret.
🤔🤔🤔🪕🪕🪕😭😭😭😊😊😊 i love Jerry keys history im super fan of Jerry keys and Paul Williams and the victory trio awesome gospel group Yes sir
I also love the "Claw Hammer" style picking
that Will Keys can sure pick with two fingers on that banjo.
