I'm from Maryland, but now live in PA, and people here don't know what Old Bay is. LOL. I make mine exactly the same except I squeeze a little lemon in there.
It's sooo good to use. I purchased it for my 78 year old gma last year. She ARGUED ME DOWN because she never used it before. I told her...I'll pay for it, u try it ONCE and if u don't like it...I'll take it. She agreed. Let's just say SLAP YA' MAMA seasonings are now a PERMANENT fixture in my gma's cabinet and recipes. PS u know it's hard for the OLDER generation to try NEW THINGS.
I make it the same way only i add some slivered vadalia onions and a few handfuls of cooked shrimp :)
DAMN, Old Bay... I didn't think of that. I was using just salt, pepper, dill and a touch of lemon... I do suggest one thing though... cut that mayo 50/50 with sour cream and watch what happens... Damn!

very nice ! ! ! yes, this is usually what you get, the imitation crab meat, when you purchase it. and I agree , if you're feeding a large crowd , believe it , they will be too happy to get the imitation , because it is sooooo good . and you are so right , about being a good steward over your money , it doesn't matter how much or little you have . I have got to try this recipe. :) I agree with you on the Old Bay seasoning...I use it in all of my salads like chicken, turkey, crab and shrimp salads.

your right with the Old Bay...salt just releases natural flavor of the meat...Old Bay adds the kick needed to make it less bland
Old Bay! that's the key. I've been making crab salad for a few years but I stopped because i dont think I make it well. NOW, that I have your recipe, I'm jumping back in that saddle! Question: have you ever tried the seasoned imitation crab meat? Never heard of it till last year (still didnt come out right for me!). In any event, thanks for the tips!

I like making my own seasoning that saves money. I make a whole bunch and it lasts sometimes 2 years before I have to make some more. I use things like powdered onion and garlic, cayenne and herbs that I grow in the garden and dry, such as oregano and thyme and others.. You could make your own old bay without paying the fancy price.

ty so sis and i dont believe so at all but u can always check for i have found everyones sodium levels or requirements for that are different so it relative to what one would consider"high"

It's a fish called Pollock. I believe they add some flavoring to it, but it's really good, to me. It's a lot cheaper too! My friend uses it in her ceviche.

it's Pollock, a fish fished out of Alaska. it's good fish, white flesh, not fishy. you've eaten it and just didn't know you were. it's the fish used in a mcdonalds fish sandwich............it's tasty....God Bless

plus no one usually makes"crab salad" with real crab meat.. its not common nor the traditional way. otherwise u then are making crab cake filling without the fillers if following this recipe with real crabmeat. which is a good branchoff recipe

How long can it be refrigerated and does it freeze well?
30mins to an hour before serving. You could even make the night before & put it in the fridge. Don't freeze.

Well real crab is meatier and has a different texture then imitation crab meat. Real crab meat is so expensive and you would never be able to get a bowl that big for 8 bucks lol!
