1:41 is literally one of my favorite byler proofs because it’s such a “blink and you’ll miss it” shot that holds so much weight and reveals what mikes thinking.
ok, this might be a long ramble but i’ll try my best to make sense: 1) regarding the middle seat, i think if will had been placed in the middle people might have interpreted it as will getting in between mike and els relationship (literally and figuratively) which could make the general audience view will as a homewrecker who is trying to break el/mike apart… i think that’s partially part of the reason why the duffer brothers chose not to put will in the middle, if their goal is to ultimately pair up mike and will, they would want the audience to root for will and his happy ending (which i feel they have executed pretty well so far), Had they instead placed will in the middle, i think it could have potentially given off a bad message. Personally i like mike in the middle because of how it shows that he’s caught in between two love interests. 2)regarding the look, i think it’s also interesting to point out that in the van scene with mike and will, mike was sat by the window and towards the end of the scene when will is looking away and crying, we can see in the background mike looks as will (despite having his own window). I never really understood why the duffer brothers chose that specific clip (mike looking towards will as he is crying) because it just never made sense to me… either mike looked at will and didn’t notice him crying OR he DID notice will crying and chose to ignore it to give him space.. but with your analysis, im starting to believe that the reason the duffers chose to show mike looking at will in the painting/van scene is to mirror the look mike gave to will in THIS scene as a way to subtlety show that mike is drawn towards will. idk, just some thoughts, great video btw!! look forward to seeing more, especially some underrated clips like this 😊
Yeah! I agree 100% with both points. Also I appreciate you sharing your thoughts! As for point 2 I haven’t thought of that but now that I think about it that makes more sense and I can definitely see the connection :) But yeah thanks again! I’ll try my best to get another video out, I hope I get some inspiration soon lol
@ No worries. I’ve seen other byler videos that cover their big scenes together, it’s nice to get a break down of even the small scenes of them, so thank you!🙏 🙏🙏
