I have a great story about George Porter Jr. where I was in Aspen CO 25 yrs ago in July, walking the downtown area after a late business dinner. I heard some awesome live music coming from this lounge and it was the Sissy Strut. I went in and there was Mr. Porter and his band funking it out! I stayed and watched their show. It was a small lounge and so relaxed. Afterwards George and his band were nice enough to hang and talk with me. Great Guy!!! Great Meters Song.
George and his band the runnin pardners would play private shows for my dads friend every summer at what we call Takas Rootdown. picked him and Brint his guitarist up from the airport one time. in 2016 after the show him and the band signed my guitar and he showed me how to play the bass line and we all smoked weed together. there was so much weed moonshine and shrooms at the party is was so sick. theres some videos up on youtube if you just look up takas rootdown. havent been there in a few years since i moved across the country but man those were the days!!
Thank you for the lesson! I thought I figured it out by ear and went to play with the recording and was wayyy wrong thanks for helping a brother get on track!
Having never heard of this tune before, I had to have a look. Bloody fantastic! I set aside time after work every day for practice and for the last year or so, my "warm up" has been my arrangement of "Greensleeves" by Ralph Vaughan-Williams (gets my right and left hand up to some sort of speed). But I'll be adding this tune as another warm up; funky, enjoyable, and enough of a workout to prime my fretting and picking hands. Cheers, chap!
Hey Martry sounds great! I have got an question though, would you like to teach us the song Song 2 from Blur? Because that's an absolute banger and it would be really cool if I (and many others) can play it right! Hope to see it!
Hell yeah, more Meters and funky instrumentals!
Always a great tune to break out at a jam night. Such a nice change from 1-4-5 snooze fests. Nice, Marty.

Noice! I just had this melody stuck in my head the other day and had to hum it to Google to discover the title.
Google never knows what I'm trying to hum. So it doesn't work for me. But maybe you have to be in the right key....idk
Smooth riff to play on both bass and guitar. Cheers as always man!
Me and my band just started to play this the other day and here you are with a tutorial to elevate it even further!
This is a great funky tune. Thanks Marty!
My dad hung out with Ziggaboo at a dead concert one night said it was the greatest experience of his life!
Hey Marty, thanks for the Cissy Strut guitar lesson. Appreciated!!
Thanks Marty! I've seen Leo Nocentelli, Live from The Georgia Theater, in Athens, GA, twice. He can lay it down on a Saturday night fellas. Onelove.

Marty! You should be using your signature guitar to give lessons. Can't wait to put my hands on one. Have a great one.
Nice. I play all three top strings for that bit at the end of every second bar: xxx766 to xxx565

Hybrid picking is a good option for the part that he is calling the double stops.
