I’ve read this book years ago when I was kid, and I feel that none of the adaptations really do it justice. Every film ends up being about who they marry when the book is really about them learning about themselves and forming a personal moral compass and learning how to be happy.
This is my second video I’ve watched on your channel (after Normal People review) and I forgot how much I love reading classics! I re-brought Little Women and I loved every bit. I’ve now recently read P&P and I’m about to read Anna Karenina. Mad. I normally only read modern romantic novels that my mum recommends, but I’ve just brought my first non fiction book (why I’m no longer talking to white people about race) and my first self help book! So the copy of little women I grew up with is a version that was published in two volumes that I inherited from my grandma. The trouble is that at some point along the way the second part of it got lost! Volume one ends with their father coming home from the war. The first I knew about anything that happens after that was when I caught the 1994 adaptation on TV. I cried and cried. I know in the UK the two parts have sometimes been publish separately, or maybe it's just a hazard of having one book in two volumes, but in my head I imagine my grandma saw what happened to Beth and threw the second volume away.
This series is by far my fave. Either the child in me misses being read too and you're now my temporarily adoptive mother or I'm too lazy to read myself. Thanks anyway!

My mother read this to me when I was 10 loved it my version o films fwas the June allison that seemd to be on every chirstmas and me and mum went to see the winona ryder version at the cinema for her brirthday!
The same thing happened to me to when I watch the original adaptation of Little Women I thought I had read the book actually the version of the book I had at home I really enjoyed and I didn't realise that it was a smaller abridged version of it it's also important to remember that little women is actually two books Little Women and little men sorry it's possible that we read Little Women and not the combined version that was later sold whatever it was there was a really odd small version running around for a while

ughhh I love the film more than I can say-- it's one of the few movies I own because I watch it so frequently. and I am so upset that all of these beautiful women were acted by people who are so so thin. Hearing this read aloud reminds me that they were written to be "plump" AND lovely AND complex AND romantic beings! Instead, we see all of these gorgeous clothes on conventionally attractive women and the result is that one of the (many) reasons I sob at the end of each viewing is that I know I will never look like that. I wish we could have had the brilliant costume designer dress a body more like mine and I wish we didn't scrub the fat people from our romantic stories. You know? Like, I love Laura Dern and Emma Watson as much as the next gal, but can you imagine how different the film would have been if they were in these positions of admiration and poise AND were fat? I know I'm rambling, but this whole thing really breaks my heart.
speaking of public domain...do you have any thoughts on mickey becoming public domain in 2023, and how that copyright was extended in the past by disney? it's interesting bc mickey is so prolific. makes one wonder if disney will attempt to either skirt the law (again) or challenge its existence entirely
