      It was stupid to think she could get away with being deliberately bigoted. She thought so because she is used to getting away with being bigoted against Whites. She thought Jews are just Whites she can offend without recourse. Imagine being this clueless about how things work. Clearly a quota hire, no merit whatsoever.

A supposed PHD who in the span of her entire career has Z-E-R-0 book publications dealing with her specialty, and has submitted just 11 papers for publication in technical journals - all of which have been found to contain plagiarised content. She was the Dean of one of the most prestigious universities in the country, which long before she got there published an Student Code of Honor which establishes penalties for plagiarism and/or lack of citation which range from written censure to permanent expulsion. Aside from the larger extinuating circumstances, i went to grad school in a quantitative field. I've heard people try and qualify fhe academic misconduct as less severe because she "only" failed to cite and that the argument and data were hers. But in quant fields, especially on a dissertation, you have to cite everything. Everything has to be in place. And the methodology is one of the most important parts to get right.
    I went to a public research university and i would not have been able to slip text into an assignment a) because they have scanners now that check for plagiarism and b) because I'd have to have an academic misconduct trial and risk getting kicked out

      Did they have scanners in 1997? How many people who referenced manually would pass the test if scrutinized with AI.
      It was almost certain to raise some questions by just picking Ackman’s wife’s thesis and scrutinizing it. This is an MIT thesis done over 10 years after Gays.
      I won’t be surprised some would come up with things from the new presidents stuff if it is run through AI. So the standards today with tech can’t be compared to those almost 30 years ago.

      Not that I disagree with all the importance of correctly citing your sources. I have a degree in history and political science. So I get that said importance. However I argue that it happened in most older works, from when you couldn't just scan. It is something that was almost unavoidable with the amount of pages you wrote and which would have to be checked. I would have to say, if you want to have everyone resign who has citation problems, you probably won't have many older professors left.
      But what I have more problems with, is, that some people are singled out here. If this initiative was genuine, they wouldn't go after people with some matching characteristics, irrelevant to the issue, but after all older thesis. And we have that Ruffo guy admitting it is political. And with that I have my qualms.

If we look back at ALL of North, Central and South American and Western European history from 1600s to 1960s that is NOTHING but affirmative action for white people. You had NO competition from anyone of color, not because you are smarter or more qualified, but because you suppressed, enslaved, corrupted, intimidated, stole from and murdered non-Europeans who were sadly under your thumb and you peacock around as if it was because you are/were so much smarter and more worthy. Everything was white affirmative action prior to 1960s.

Last I turned in a paper improper citation was a couple points off your grade and if you have a really nice teacher a chance to redo those citations, not a 0 for the paper and expulsion. I’m 100% sure that if we went over every university president’s body of work we would find the same citation problem in all of them. The only reason someone cared enough to do it to her was she was a prominent Black woman, which is the point of this whole news feature. She resigned out of courtesy for the bad reputation, not necessity. Plagiarism is bad, but when accusations are flung you need to bring receipts because unlike a lot of other crimes this isn't a he said she said matter this is all in writing or recording and you can actually physically compare. For comparison this is like being told someone is a thief who stole vast amounts of money, only to find on investigation they miscalculated the change on a bill a couple of times. Yes they should pay up where those discrepancies are present, but they shouldn't be labeled a thief, nor go to jail for a couple of bills that didn't quite add up.

    Reading below, it is clear to me that some people are (still) missing the point. Plagiarism is either defensible or it is not. If ANY mistake means dismissal, then every person who makes these mistakes should be dismissed. If they are not dismissed, then YES, there is a reason to search for reasons/causes for the differentiations as to who is let go and who is allowed to keep their jobs. When in a country such as ours where skin, culture, gender does make a difference, it must be considered as to why distinctions are made between who is allowed to keep their jobs and who are not. To not see that difference is a choice on each of us to play ignorant or prove yourself so.

    • @pete3953
      @pete3953 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We could debate whether "any" mistake means dismissal. However in this case there are about 40 instances of verbatim passages from other authors in the 11 papers she has published in a 20 year career. She has admitted this occurred. Did she simply "forget" to make the appropriate citation in all those cases? Highly unlikely but at minimum it demonstrates a history of truly sloppy work that is not up to the standard you should demand from a tenured Professor and certainly not the President of a top university.

      If you actually paid attention, they investigated the allegations and only found instances of improper citation and no instances of stealing the work of others.

The white as white University of Pennsylvania head was out specifically for her similarly inept performance. No CRT or DEI falderal - just incompetent and offensive performance.
