    I had watched several videos on tension and alignment, but never got an explanation for alignment beyond "mess around with the left adjuster". These videos did not show their "messing around". I was very pleased to see your explanation and adjustment on this video. Thanks.

    The best way to align the axle is to measure center point of swing arm pivot bolt to center of axle bolt. Once you have that aligned you make equal turns on each adjusters. I promise this will center belt on both front and rear pulleys. How many turns you do to left adjuster you must do to right and vice versa. The belt will be straight this way as well as wheel and axle . If belt rides to outside in front pulley it will rub in the inner front cover and you will need new belt. I know been there these belts range approximately$200 bucks give or take a few. When you have old belt off its good time to clean both pulleys . After a few hundred miles recheck tension. May have to do 1/4 turn each side. Safe riding. I love Victorys. I have a 2006 victory jackpot Arlen Ness looks brand new.

      Thanks for the share! If you're not replacing the belt. Does the exact position of the belt matter at all. Like same tooth on pully,before you removed tire?

    My new belt started to make noise again. Not the bird chirp but a lower pitch sound and more continuous. I can hear it mainly when passing a wall or concrete barriers. It is riding fine on the pulley, to the center. I was going to clean the belt and apply some dry lube. I decided to just clean it and forego the lube. Went for a ride and quiet as a mouse, even before the bike was fully warmed up. Used soap and a scrub brush, rinsed and then compressed air. Good call Rylan.

    I've got a '99 V92 that I've got to replace the belt on. None of the shops around me want to touch it. They all say it's too old for them to work on. I'm looking at trying to do the replacement myself. Your video is helpful.

      That’s total bullshit. I’ve noticed a change in attitude over the phone once I say “victory”. Bunch of asshole pansies. Most of the work you can do yourself if you have a motorcycle jack.

    Ok for a quick overview and what to look for. When doing the alignment it is imperative to tap the axle forward to insure the adjusters are tight before and as the axle nut is being tightened. If you can wiggle the adjuster the axle is not fully forward. I use a plastic dead blow hammer to tap on the axle nut or on the tire to tighten the right side. Once you got the axle tight snug the nut on the adjusters just slightly, somewhere less than a click of the ratchet. I have found that no matter how long I spin the tire with the belt aligned as soon as it is driven the belt will be off , usually rubbing on the outside of the pulley. It always takes several more adjustments to get it right. This is on my 2011. My 04 with the wider pulley and belt was a lot less finicky.

    Whenever I adjust my belt, I use two small wood wedges to "push" the wheel/axle forward. That keeps the adjusters tight.

  • @darkbl000

    Great video, thanks! I'm surprised how tight you have set that belt...spec says around 32mm play, but yours looks like less 10mm...is that correct?
    I don't have a squeak, but I can feel a slight rumble on engine breaking, which I assumed to be belt related. It seemed to improve with a looser belt, but it's still there and the belt is now probably too loose.

    Before you take off tires use 15 gage wire use a bend leave the rest straight where swing arm use of vac hose on wire center rim axle move vac hose to bolt center so it will be set before removing tire

    I recently picked up an 02 V92C for 500. It needs a belt and I was told 1.5x 135 teeth. Does that sound right ? I’ve seen some listed as 14mm X 1.5x 135 teeth. Is that 14mm something that the correct belt should have. Thanks in advance and love your videos!!!

      Interesting you say that. Specs in the manual for the Gunner are 6mm. Seems way too tight to me.

    • @spacecoastz4026
      @spacecoastz4026 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought for a cold bike that the belt seemed way too tight. When you compress the shock and the bike get hot that belt will be super tight. Not good for the bearings.

    Mine squeaks for about 3-10 minutes. Till it’s warm. Local Indian Dealer said it’s ok. Thoughts?

    • @340rps
      @340rps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the belt isn't looking too loose cold , leave it. If you try to adjust it you may open a can of worms and make it worse. it goes away when warm. Ride it!. I had an 04 kingpin I put 40k on and ran the belt loose hot compared to what is shown here and never had a problem with belt noise or anything else. My current Kingpin, 2011 gave me problems from the day I got it 2 years ago with 4k on it. Tight ,loose I could not get it right. even running almost dead center I would get noise. I bought a new belt and first adjustment all was good. I think the bike sat alot undriven over the 7 years and if you ever saw how tight they come from the factory, the deflection is basically zero. Between that and the bike being lowered I think it distorted the belt. The bike would bottom out way to easy with the lowering links.

    • @jbw5485

      Clean the belt and pulleys. Do it the best you can without taking much of anything apart. Pulleys should be fairly clean. The belt could have dust on it.

    • @amc31b
      @amc31b 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your belt is probably fine. A loose belt is a happy belt! So long as the belt isn't so loose it could slap around or jump off, its fine. Alignment is something to be more anal about.

    No way, That belt is way too tight. Toothed belts are not too different from chains and are much better off at the looser end of the specification. 3/8's to 1/2" are typical specs for Harley belts and will work for almost any belt driven bike.

    • @340rps
      @340rps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I run 1/2" hot on my Kingpin. I've seen Vics on the show room floor with the belts literally as tight as a 2x4, 0 deflection cold.
