She said both. I believe she’s highlighting the care portion. I know people that have fast hair growth but their ends breaks off fast so they’re unable to retain any length. I always thought my hair could only grow to my shoulders. Once I started protecting my ends my hair grew to the middle of my back past my bra strap as an adult. I placed more attention on the care and was able to retain length.
Yeah, it plays a larger part than she kind of insinuated IMO. A lot of people don't take care of their hair correctly, but if you're born with fine, thin hair and alopecia in your family, you're probably not going to end up with healthy waist length hair regardless of how you care for it. Only saying this because I'm tired of unscrupulous people giving others false hope by selling them BS products. The only thing that you listed that impact growth is hair washing. Everything else has to do with length retention. They’re too totally opposite things.
@@6ftNaturalBeautyyou didnt understand the comment. The whole point is that they're breaking their hair by doing or not doing the things listed and that why they have the impression their hair is not growing. When people say their hair doesn't grow, they don't actually know that their hair is growing but the ends are breaking off at the same rate as the growth
Because all people talk in ways they've seen other people talk. And the commenter just likes the hair, so she's expressing it in the words she likes to express herself with so it's nothing to be bothered about, its human nature. If we really get down to it your comment has probably been said before too.
It isn't really the best option for a girl or woman to display her beauty on a magazine when she knows she's God's daughter. God's daughter is modest. She does not brag about her looks. She refers to the Lord Jesus Christ. She knows she may one day decide she wants to be married and not be celibate, in which case, she wouldn't want to tarnish the good name of her future husband by being the center of attention for lustful men. She is intelligent and pure and spends her time in good works and stays away from hungry lustful eyes that would never marry her anyway. And if he did, he would turn her life into a nightmare with irresponsible behavior.

We can’t simply dismiss genetics just like we can’t say all Black hair can grow long if we just take good care of it. It’s not just hair care, it’s not just genetics. It’s both combined with our physical health and nutritional intake, texture of the hair, density, kink, curl and coil of the strands, moisture of the hair, thickness of the strands, health of the hair over all, products and hair care techniques. This is 100 per cent genetics. This is my daughter’s hair identical. My husband and I have the same type of hair. My daughter ‘s hair is identical to this young ladies. I could never do that beautiful style on her hair nor mine. The hair was passed to me from my parents and the same from my husband’s side of his family. It grows like crazy. You will never see tight coils 4 C grow like this. At the end of the day hair is hair. It is what our parents passed on to us. We are not any better than anyone else because of our hair. I get so tired of being asked if this is my hair or am I mixed. 😂😂😂
Genetics definitely play a part! My hair has been long ( mid back and tail bone length at times), my entire life but not because of any hair regimen or tactics to grow it. I was just born with the same thick, strong hair my Dad and his sisters have! Through the years I have never really cared for my hair, and actually did all kind off things to it that should have left me bald! It just grows! So yea genetics is a big factor.
@@LondonTayyHair growth, pattern and volume are also genetic, environmental physical, biological factors. The hair in this video is not 4C texture hair. The hair not growing is usually associated with those of 4C, tight coils, thin/fine edges, thin fine hair volume, that usually requires hair extensions, even with moisture & protein treatments, still requires to add more volume and body.
So True! Your Hair Routine is important when it comes to hair growth. To me, your genetics determines how fast your hair grows, the texture, the density, the thickness of strands, etc. not "if" your can or can't hair grows(of course there are some things like alopecia or other hair loss struggles that may be genetic). Your hair is growing as long as your healthy and you don't have any kind of health issue that prevents your hair from growing. I would like to see more videos from natural hair girls focusing on Length retention/how to retain length methods :)
Awwww I love this. I was poised to be annoyed because I thought you were going to say that genetics and texture did NOT matter. I 1000% agree that they DO MATTER, but it’s not an excuse to say that other textures DON’T grow. ALL hair grows and hair care is just (even) more important for some.
Prior to the 90s Black people had long hair. They just wasn’t putting all those chemicals and hair weaves like we do today, Black people also ate healthier back, then meaning they weren’t eating a ton of processed foods 😂
Where? I have never seen those vast number of people. My grandmother's and aunties didn't process their hair and kept it in plaits..their hair stayed the same length, healthy but pretty much the same length. Like some white people have naturally long hair and some don't

Our hair does grow. However, it does depend on your genetics. Texture, how strong, how long, or fast it will grow from the follicles. Some of our hair is oily, dry, or in between. Massage 💆 your scalp often, keep itfromtangling & hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.. #YesSir & #YesMa'am 😊🎉
That little girl's hair is so lovely and that style is so unique. You're really talented. What you're saying is true. I can't tell you how often I see Black girls and women with hair slicked down to the scalp with product but the ponytail it's always dry, chopped and frizzy with broken ends. And so many have lightener and/or color which dries the ends out even more because of the chemical. So yeah, hair care is more than just styling, it's taking care of the scalp and hair, root to end.
I disagree. Though genetics does play a part, it's mainly hair care. It doesn't matter how fast your hair grows. If you're not taking proper care of it, it's going to appear to not be growing. I'm biracial, and my hair grows fast!! But when I moved from a humid state to an arrid one, my hair SEEMED to stop growing. When I amped up my moisturizing routine, it flourished and grew long again.
@Ms.Nikkiandherfamily Interesting... considering some biracial ppl have 3d/4d hair... which is what I'm guessing you're referring to as Black hair. Not sure if you're aware, but Black people's hair can range across the whole board of 1a-4c hair. ALL hair requires APPROPRIATE and effective hair care. All hair grows at different rates depending on diet, hydration, curl type, any existing medical issues, etc., but depending on how visible that growth is depends on the hair care.
I agree, I liken it to teeth. We know folks who have never flossed but have no cavities and others who obsess and still need root canals. Sure maintiance will help but some folks are born at third base/or already hit a home run when you just got up to bat.
@Sunshine4 Susceptibility to dental disease and decay can be influenced by genetics, BUT with PROPER care, even those who are predisposed to the nastiest mouths can have a full set of healthy teeth. Dental health is supported by the right diet (and I dont mean sweets; studies have shown the introduction of foreign foods--those not native to your culture) and proper dental care just like hair growth is supported by proper care. I have 2 sisters with the SAME hair type--4a. One's hair grows really well because she takes great care of it, while the other's hair has never been past her shoulders because she doesn't take good care of it. So it's not mainly genetics. It's a combination of the two, but mostly PROPER hair care.
Black hair grows but most of what we do breaks the hair. If you have 4c tight tight coils like me (im growing freeform locs), just detangling can make your hair break. If we can find ways to be gentle with the hair, retention will be easier. I really think it's mind over matter
I FINALLY figured out the right protective style for myself! I wash my hair, deep condition, honey oeave in condition, argan oil mousse and heat protectant serum for shine. I wear that for a couple of days. Then, I braid my hair 8 to ten rounds, then twist the ends. I wear that until my scalp itches and start all over. I also clip off any frizzy ends. This is my second week doing this. I stopped putting on the crochet hair because my high school students keep calling me bald headed B…. If I always add extensions, then I’m proving that I don’t love myself with short hair. I have a complex about my short hair because of verbal abuse and I look like my daddy. I’m four weeks from retirement. I’ll be just fine.
Small reminder to be prepared for the mental and physical changes of retirement. You completely look forward to it but might dip not receiving the same stimulation.
@@maryjflanagan1922 that was your hair care regimen, protective styles are when the hair is put away with braids weave etc to keep from manipulation of it
Miss marilyflanagan1922 if I got it correctly, One day I went to talk to my son teacher, his name/last name was Mr. Kitchen, though even i forgot to call him by Mr. Kitchen I ended up calling him Mr. Chicken just like my son supposed call him to bother him depending on what he explained to me. So after I call that name. The one he was tired of both of us ended up laughing about it. Because he was able to tell that I didn't like my son behavior sometimes. So I went and explain to my son what happened. And since we ended up in good terms with Mr. Kitchen, my son ended up not bothering him anymore, even after my mistake, of calling him Mr. Chicken. So sometimes it's depends on how you take their mishaps, or if you send to talk to their family to fix the situation. Some people you can't even try talking to them, because they are worse than their children. So I'll encouraged you to have a beautiful life, and have some vacation every now and then Just a suggestion . Don't just sit in one spot. Even though I have it in my heart, it also can be learned. Blessings for you my dear.
Let’s have a real conversation that black hair is not one thing black hair has many things different textures. Different types are included in black hair are different textures and types which all go different rates. So let’s be real about black hair. It absolutely grows every last. Thats a gorgeous style and this young lady has a lot of hair by any standard ! The thickest hair Ive ever seen up close was a little friend of my daughter whose parents were neighbors that migrated from India . I could barely wrap my hand around her ponytail !
Woooow. Heck I'm 43. My mom put herself through beauty school when I was 6. Until recently they really hadn't put any effort into products for curly hair at all, let alone the more coily or kinky types. You lose so much moisture so quickly with curls! Oh! I love the braids! It came out looking stunning! ❤
Cornrows make the hair grow. That's mostly why men who get cornrows hair go fast after 2 weeks. Ppl who wear wigs as a PROTECTIVE hairstyle [not gluing whatever they can to their hair] usually have long hair under the wig due to cornrows

I agree. I knew a tomboy in high school who did gad about hair care or anything, but her hair was like the girl in the video. Also, I often see women who are overweight and have an unhealthy log with long hair. It’s definitely genetic and I think we have to be for real.
@@CarmenSD She isn't saying it's NOT about genetics. She's saying it's not ALL about genetics. In other words, as long as you don't have actual Alopecia, you can grow long and healthy hair. You don't have to be stuck with "stunted hair".
I mean, think about it for a minute: Hair ALWAYS grows from the scalp. It only ever breaks off at the tips. Minimize this "breakage" = retaining most of the ALREADY GROWING hair. That's why Alopecia is the exception because then the hair simply doesn't grow from the scalp. Period
👍🏻I'm a spanish women and let me tell you that a black person's hair is one of the strongest and has the most shine when it's blowed dried. It looks beautiful and it also super soft.
Healthy hair when taken care of properly can be strong. The strongest hair is Japanese and most asian’s hair cause they have the thickest single strain of hairs, which is called coarse hair. Afro hair has the thinnest strain of hair. It’s usually dry too which needs lots of moisture to help retain the hair.
In Latin America, i think is the water, and all natural soaps and shampoos. I am fair skin with coarse hair, and when you make your own soap shampo and filter your water you notice the difference. Make your own soap. Make it rosemary, zote soap, and alovera plant, boil it until it thicken, and pass it in a pan, and cut it when its hard and use it instead of using chemically mass shampoos. Find hispanic tutorials for natural soaps. My hair is course by shiny and soft. 😊@@SC-sd6cg
We often underestimate the role of genes in hair growth, However, it's actually our hair cycle that plays a significant role. This is why some people's hair grows super fast after a cut, while others' hair growth slows down at a certain length. Additionally, genes influence other aspects like thickness, strength (texture), and density, which provide more resilience.
I'm black & native American (Chippewa)... and I have waist length hair even at 48! Now my hair texture has changed with age from thick & curly to thin & slightly wavy. But I have learned if you keep your scalp clean and healthy and hair moistured.... it will GROW. Collagen peptides can help also. ❤
@lvncsr6166 I have seen more growth than normal by taking Orgain Collagen Peptides. I even used to take the Neocell Collagen supplements. I do not use relaxers, nor do I heat style my hair often. As far as products I use a bonding shampoo & conditioner, or a black soap clarifying shampoo & conditioner. Additionally, batana oil, Kristin Ess weightless leave in & Nexxus ultralight smooth serum
First it's genetics, because when you see a black person with curly hair, or wavy hair, there has been some type of race mixing in your family. All three of my children have curly or wavy hair. They get it from my husband side, because his mom is biracial, and from my grandad, who is biracial. I know a lot of black people may not want to admit it, but the black race hair grows slower than any other race out there, so hair care is definitely a must to keep the hair healthy.
@@nataliewalters2759 That isn't true. There are black people who have wavy or straight hair. They are mixed, but as long as the "one drop Theory" makes a person considered to be black, you can't say ALL black people...

Black women, your hair does grow like everyone else's. Is it's just that your systems are just more sensitive than everyone else's,but you just don't realize it. You're allergic to the chemicals that are in products that are geared toward you. If you stay away from chemicals, stay away from perms. Stay away from excessive heat.Your hair will be healthy and long. Wash your hair, spritz with water then a bit of organic oil, and your hair will be perfectly fine. You shouldn't put fake hair on little girls because the fake hair has crazy chemicals on it especially if you don't wash the hair first before you put it on the child. And you should never put alcohol based products on your little girl's hair. You should never perm your little girl's hair.
Not true about your hair being healthy and long if you do or don’t do these things. Some women don’t have long hair and never will. Healthy, but not long.
I tried to tell my older co-worker that our hair definitely grows, but it’s breaking off just as fast as it grows. She doesn’t believe me I absolutely luv this hair style
I agree that hair care makes a big difference; I just think hair care can be really difficult for some people. I have 4c. hair, and I’m being challenged in finding the right hair care routine.
Well I have 4c as well and honestly it’ll only get harder to manage the more it grows. When your 4c hair becomes mid back length the shrinkage will always be the biggest enemy and it’s even harder to manage. Honestly the best way is to just constantly 2 strand twist it so it doesn’t take too long and comb it out when you’re ready to go out and about. The problem with these videos is that most of them show girls with other hair types it’s not 4c. It’ll be either mixed folk hair or just more loose curls so 4c people can’t really learn how to manage their hair. This is why I hate videos like this
It does grow but maintains length like retention is the problem locs is a true sign black hair grows when there is retention … plus girls with long thick hair wear weaves to keep their hands out their hair
Yes all hair grows, but shoulder & waist length hair are a different story , going by the little girl in video most grown women don't have hair that length. Protective styles are to get you through workouts, vacation even illness, some ppl wear just for change of style. You can keep your hands in your hair if you know what your doing. Thank you. I have very fine thin hair and it takes forever to grow. My mom is the same way too. I thought becoming natural many years ago was going to make a huge difference but nope. I accept my hair the way it is.
Black hair grows upwards not downwards. Our ancestors came from a hot continent. Why would we want long, thick woolly hair to keeps our heads/scalp heated. I am not ashamed of my short hair and i take regular trims to ensure it's neat. Time for us black people to stop craving the hair of the other groups, take care of our unique hair and be proud.
Good to know. I don't put heat on my hair and I do condition it but I feel like it is hard to balance because my hair is naturally oily but also feels dry? I wish I had the thick beautiful hair the model has.
It's definitely genetics. People who have the genetics for their hair to grow fast and long will tell others they need to take care of their hair and it will grow to their length. Lol which is BS. Some, not all, black people hair just don't grow long. Period. We have learned this over the past 100 years.

@Sirchingsince exactly. You could use someone with long hair routine till you're blue in the face, if you're not genetically equipped to grow long hair it won't happen.

It's both. My mother took care of our hair. Genetics does play a role in how fast it grows.
#Absolutely,,Sister 🎉

She doesn't appear to be, but it's on the verge of saying, "look what you can do if you just take care of your hair."

The whole point is that they're breaking their hair by doing or not doing the things listed and that why they have the impression their hair is not growing. Pretty sure I missed other details. We need to stop using one example of exemplary hair and say that we can all have hair like that of we just believe. 🤦🏽♀️

Absolutely! Education is power !
It's MAINLY genetics but also care and maintenance 😊
@akherashepsutera2013 biracial Hair and black hair are not the same. I have biracial kids no that don't make an expert but definitely not the same
@Ms.Nikkiandherfamily Interesting... considering some biracial ppl have 3d/4d hair... which is what I'm guessing you're referring to as Black hair.
I am obsessed with this hair style!!! I’ve never seen this before!!
She has the prettiest hair. Love the style too
Black hair grows but most of what we do breaks the hair. If you have 4c tight tight coils like me (im growing freeform locs), just detangling can make your hair break. If we can find ways to be gentle with the hair, retention will be easier. I really think it's mind over matter
My goodness...what a beautiful hair and hair style. This little girl is blessed with such gorgeous and full hair. 🥰🙌🥰

I mean, think about it for a minute:
Hair ALWAYS grows from the scalp. It only ever breaks off at the tips.
Minimize this "breakage" = retaining most of the ALREADY GROWING hair.

We often underestimate the role of genes in hair growth, However, it's actually our hair cycle that plays a significant role.

In my opinion The bow is too much, but this hair style is really beautiful. Her hair is so healthy and strong.
This is why I hate videos like this
Oh my goodness, her hair is gorgeous 😍
Genetics , if it were not true everyone would have long hair (excluding weaves)👩🏾
Lastly when most women take down weaves, braids etc all they do is get them again bcuz they hate texture or how thick or thin it is .
@@Saggfire777 if u don’t know that many black women with long thick hair just say that cause where I’m from they exist they also wear weave sew-ins but let them take it out it’s long down their back
@@tnholley8569 I said most women I'm also a s cosmetologist for 38 yrs. I've seen all hair lengths , so where ever you are from and everyone has long hair keep up the good work👌
@@tnholley8569 💯
And to answer you it’s all about genetics in the end. 10% how you care for it. 10% nutrition. 80% genetics. It’s why you sometimes see men who do NOTHING for their hair grow thick, full, long hair without even trying.
trueeee
Why does long Black hair always have to be tuck away or pinned up....???
To keep it long
To protect the ends from breakage❤
Respectfully these are styles WE choose, its just that simple
Well, because a lot of black women love wearing weaves instead of the hair that grows from the scalp. It doesn’t have to be anything.
😴😴😴
That baby is beautiful and her mom SLAYED that style!
So from a professional, I can say many things take place to hair growth for length , thickness and health benefits ect. Genetics is one of them, then you have hair self care as well!! Also what you consume!!! Is the most important !! From foods to medicine and also the lack of nutrition in ones health so health issues! Yw
She nourishes it and leaves it alone!- no stress or weight thats how you create and maintain growth
Why do women with relaxers need touch ups? Duh
Why?
@@alexismartinez7092because the hairs growing..lol
@@sansfinchy6799 Its a cycle honey do you believe you have the same hair on your head since last year? trim retouch trim retouch….
💯% agreed. Because it grows. I see a couple of short busers… 🤣
@@IAMCHANNELLA yeah I understood after I had typed why… relaxer is what makes it straight right? It’s just some people say it’s a perm and it’s just confusing
Wowowow🎉🎉🎉❤❤I didn't know that black hair can grow up so long amazing hair has that kid!!!
Genetics, as you stated, do play a part in it, and again, hair care is important too. I will also say that for black people, it takes work to figure out what your hair and scalp need to promote that hair growth, and it takes time to figure it out.
Black people will call a mixed woman or girl black until we start talking about their long hair or loose curl pattern.
Huh?
I know many mixed people with dry brittle hair … I know many ‘black’ women (different ethnicities) who’s hair is thick beautiful curls, and flourishing ❤
My Gr8 Grand is mixed, however her INDIGENOUS DNA is very strong ,her hair is very loose waves to spiral curls , her Mommy creates so many beautiful hair styles for her ,but girlfriend if nothing is done she has some CRAZY 🤪 hair lol
No fr because everytime i search for hairstyles to try on TH-cam or Pintrest, I always get mixed races 😅. It's really frustrating because it's so hard to find cute styles for 4c hair!!!
@@a.lindsayyou are looking in the wrong place. Try youtube...there are plenty of styles for type four hair
Being able to do knotless braids with your own hair if you wanted to, is the ultimate flex 🤩🙌🏽
Factsssss
For sure, Jesus Christ, her hair is 💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽💅🏽
It’s just regular braids babe 😂. It’s been a thing. ❤
@@Nothingisreal1737 I’m not talking about this style in the video, I’m talking about if she wanted to knotless with her own hair, she definitely could..
@@MakaylaG-y7y yes … it would just be regular braids babe … not ‘knotless’ that comes from the extension …
Her hair is so beautiful!!! ❤
That is beautiful ❤
I love this little girls hair, I love black hair it's so unique so beautiful. However hair care is very important for all kinds hairs
SHE IS MIX !!! Stop the STUPIDITY OF THE BLACKNESS!! Damn Fools
It's hair, long, short, straight, curly. Genetics, etc. Take care of your hair. Who cares if people say black hair doesn't grow? Do people care what people say about hair. Be happy with whatever. Research if that helps. It's hair. People will be just fine. It's hair 🤔
A good attitude is beautiful to see✌🏾
One word. "Genetics" Stop making black women always feel like they're doing something wrong to their hair🙄
That part some women do alot to their hair but if the genetics aren't there then it's not gonna grow as much
😂😅😂😅😂 I've seen some really F UPED black hair, all because they want long luxurious flaxen shiny hair ... yup ,sum wrong with that 🙄🤦♀️💀
For some, yes. If the strands are thin , then the hair is easier to break and if they have a short hair cycle.
Does this applynto white people as well? The part about the ends? I havent cut my hair since 2019 and i feel like it should be longer than it is.
Yes, split ends go up the hair strand that causes breakage and length retention
@@Tiffaney7In ancient times did people cut their ends?
@@preciousjacob6108 yes
@@Tiffaney7you’re generalising a country. Egypt had tribes babe … they wore hairstyles to match their tribes .. intricate might I add …
Good to know. I don't put heat on my hair and I do condition it but I feel like it is hard to balance because my hair is naturally oily but also feels dry? It tangles so easily so I have to use a lot of conditioner or I'm not getting the knots out of it. I have a bad habit of keeping it in a bun or in a pony tail. Maybe I need a better conditioner. I wish I had the thick beautiful hair the model has.
Her hair is so beautiful 😍
It's definitely genetics. People who have the genetics for their hair to grow fast and long will tell others they need to take care of their hair and it will grow to their length. Lol which is BS. Some, not all, black people hair just don't grow long. Period. We have learned this over the past 100 years.
I agree, we genetically had long hair in my family,we did nothing to it, and it grew on it's own. All the bs about taking care of your hair. Really isn't true for everyone.
I completely agree! Every now and again, someone with a naturally long growth cycle will come out with a magic hair growth oil to fleece the desperate. Growing up, it was me and another girl with "long hair". We used the same greases, barrettes, and routines as those who had neck length hair.
@Sirchingsince exactly. You could use someone with long hair routine till you're blue in the face, if you're not genetically equipped to grow long hair it won't happen.
Why does lock hair grow
Exactly 💯. Some black women are delusional. This young lady is probably mixed and this is not typical black hair texture outside of like people from the horn of Africa like Ethiopians and Somalians
