Covid testing for entry into USA & other countries

  • UPDATE: June 2021 for Honduras you no longer need a covid test to enter as long as you have been vaccinated and can present your vaccine card. All others must take a test to enter and all individuals must take a test to enter the USA regardless of vaccine status. Use this handy website to find the up to date rules on your destinations. www.iata.org/en/publications/...
    This video is a walkthrough of how to prepare for your international travel and avoid expensive and inconvenient covid testing for re-entry into the USA and in some cases entry into other countries. As a group of intrepid individuals we at Trident Travelers are always looking out for budget conscious travel with a Scuba Diving theme. One of our friends in the group (Dr Lisa Kim Torp) discovered this pretty little gem that allows you to conduct a covid test in the comfort of your hotel room as long as you have a stable internet connection and a computer with a webcam. It is a 100% monitored at home test procedure so it is accepted by most airlines and countries.
    I also discuss the apps you use and specifically how American Airlines have adopted an additional step to make your travel experience easier using their 3rd party NaviFly app.
    If it were not for Dr Lisa Kim Torp's network of friends we would still be stumbling around looking for Covid test clinics in far away countries. She was instrumental in helping fine tune Abbot's digital certificate so that it complied with the airline demands. So all credit for the discovery of this wonderful Covid test goes to Lisa. doctor.webmd.com/doctor/lisa-...

    This was so helpful. Thank you so much. By the way, I have a couple questions regarding the test kit. I ordered like 10 kits under my name. Can each of my family member use it also? In other words, is each test kit assigned only to the person who purchased it? Or can anybody register with Navica and eMED website and use it as long as the kit is not open? I doubt each test kit is assigned to only one person. But just wanted to make sure. Have a wonderful day!!

      @tridentwarriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JS. Yes the test kits can be used by anybody and they don’t have to be related. The important part is that each person must create their own emed user account and download the NAVICA app to get their digital certificate. I ran out recently and my friend leant me one of hers and I was able to use it with no problem at all.

      @@Kklkoko Hi, thanks for the compliment. It would be lovely if you could subscribe :) I am slowly building a fan base for all travel and diving related matters. To answer your question, yes I believe that a minor (eMed classifies somebody under 15 yrs old as a minor) can be added to the account. I just checked the FAQ page for you (You can find that here.. www.emed.com/contact-us) and there is a good FAQ response under the question 'How do I help a child or minor take a test on emed?'. This is the answer that they provide.
      Initiate a testing session by visiting www.eMed.com and clicking the "Start Test" button on the home page, then follow the instructions provided onscreen. Note: you must login using your NAVICA™ app credentials to begin testing with eMed.
      To download the NAVICA™ app to your smartphone or device, and for more information visit:www.globalpointofcare.abbott/en/product-details/binaxnow-covid-19-home-test-us.html.
      Note: All minors age 15 and under must have a "Managed Account" in the NAVICA™ app.
      To create a "Managed Account" in the NAVICA™ app, complete the following steps:
      Step 1:
      Log into Navica App
      Step 2:
      Click person icon
      Step 3:
      Click Add a Managed Profile
      Step 4:
      Click Add a Managed Profile
      Step 5:
      Read Managed Profile agreement and click Yes
      Step 6:
      Add Basic Details and click Continue

    T H A N K Y O U S O M U C H ! ! ! I am finally going back to visit El Salvador from US - after 22 years since I left; and I am taking my wife and 6 year old around Thanksgiving week 2021. A coworker who went to Austria in an emergency situation mentioned to me how difficult and costly was for her to return due to the tests availability and proof for airlines. This makes it so much easier. Cheers.

    This is super helpful! THANK YOU so much! We're flying from the U.S. to Portugal at month end on United (who partners with EMed). Portugal requires US travelers to present either a PCR or Rapid Antigen test. Not sure if you would know the answer, but United's site reads "This option is only for your RETURN flight" (emphasis added). Ideally, since we must each purchase a 6 pack, we would like to be able to use one of these EMed tests in order to enter Portugal. Do you happen to know if this would work? And if you don't know, no worries. Thanks!

    • @tridentwarriors
      @tridentwarriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Erika, it is my understanding that you can buy the 6 pack yourself and then create another account on the emed website for any other users that you wish to give a test kit to and then when they log in to carry out their test then they simply scan in the QR code of the individual box that you gave to them from your 6 pack. Basically the 6 pack is NOT locked into the person that paid for them and I have been told this multiple times by eMed. This makes sense as you can share them with family and friends. If Portugal requires a Rapid Antigen test for entry then this test kit will work as this is one of the fields that we orchestrated getting put onto the certificate that you get issued after taking the test. Please update us with your experience as every travelers experience will be different and the more we know, then the more we know right :)

      @@tridentwarriors thank you very much! Funny, I wrote to eMed and they advised me that “each individual must have their own test kit (6 test kit pack)”. Sigh….So it’s a little confusing to say the least. You may indeed be correct about the individual barcodes on each package, but fortunately I discovered that United works with another vendor that sells a 2 packet kit, which is how we might deal with this. When I asked if we could use the BinaxNow test for entry to Poland they advised me to check with the airline….after holding for 1.5 hours, the United rep said the test was NOT valid for entry to Poland, which is also what the United site has posted. Ughhhh…All the mixed messages are frustrating, but at the end of the day I’m just grateful we are finally going to be able to travel.

    @Trident Travelers The Navica app for American Airlines does not include "A trip to Costa Rica" (we traveled from the US to CR on vacation), so am I correct in assuming that we actually use "a trip to the US" button and continue the steps you outlined?

    • @tridentwarriors

      Jim, after looking at the Costa Rican embassy website it appears that negative covid tests are NOT required to enter Costa Rica so this explains why the option is not visible inside the VeriFLY app (NAVICA is not the app for American Airlines btw). Looks like same applies to other countries like Mexico that don’t require a negative test, they are mot on the VeriFLY app list either.
      Here is a copy of the text on the website
      Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry into Costa Rica? No
      U.S. citizen tourists wishing to enter Costa Rica are not required to present the results of a negative PCR test for CV-19. However, all U.S. citizen tourist must complete an epidemiological Health Pass and provide proof of health insurance to cover any medical treatment and quarantine lodging related to COVID-19 illnesses while in Costa Rica.

      You will of course need a test to enter the USA from Costs Rica

      www.emed.com to buy a 6 pack or store.optum.com/shop/category/everyday-care/covid-19/ if you want to buy a 2 pack (more expensive per pack and MAKE SURE you purchase the ''Abbott BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card Home Test with eMed Telehealth Services - 2 Pack for Travel' on this website and not any of the other products which will not work for travel entry. You need the telemed component)

      @@kotro88 Please note that you do still need a test to enter the USA and this test kit is perfect for re-entry. Now to your question about Honduras.. you do not need the test to enter Roatan anymore as long as you are vaccinated and can show your original vaccine card. If you have not been vaccinated either due to underaged, chose not to get vaccinated or any other reason then yes this test kit is permitted for entry and I have used it multiple times. This requirement changed a few weeks ago on 2nd June. Here is the update information presented on hn.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/
      Here is an extract from that page which is relevant to your question:
      Is a negative COVID-19 test (PCR and/or serology) required for entry?
      Effective June 2, 2021, The Government of Honduras has updated its requirements for entry into the country. All travelers must still complete the online pre-check form, but fully vaccinated individuals with their original vaccination certificate are no longer required to provide proof of a negative COVID test upon entry in Honduras.
      Proof of Full Vaccination: Passengers must provide the original vaccination certificate documenting complete COVID-19 vaccination (two doses of most vaccines; one dose of Johnson & Johnson) with at least 14 days after receipt of the final dose.
      COVID-19 Test: Passengers who cannot provide proof of full vaccination must hand-carry the negative test results for a PCR or rapid test taken less than 72 hours before entry into Honduras. Passengers must show the test results at check-in.

      This is what I found on the embassy site. In short, this test is an antigen test and so yes, it qualifies. Here is the embassy info on entry into France but please check with your airline, Orange countries (all other countries including the United States). Fully vaccinated travelers must present proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test performed with the 48 hours prior to departure for France; no quarantine is necessary. France accepts the CDC card as sufficient proof of vaccination for entry. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers must provide a compelling reason for travel (see Compelling Reasons, below), a negative COVID test (PCR or antigen) performed in the 48 hours before departure. All travelers will be tested again upon arrival, and must self-isolate upon arrival for 7 days, 10 days if they test positive upon arrival.  At the end of the 7 days they must take a PCR test. In addition, depending on your country of origin, you may be subject to screening upon arrival. To facilitate administrative procedures, you need to fill out the form available at the following address: passager.serveureos.org. Children under age 12 are exempt from the testing requirements. • @tridentwarriors
      @tridentwarriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great observation and no I have not had any problems with TSA. The bottle is tiny and I would not expect it to trigger any alerts for TSA. I am sure that it would be easily explained and they would let it pass if somebody were to be super keen in their job :) The ideal way is to not have it in carry on luggage and put it in your checked bag but if you don't check anything then you are at the mercy of the hyper vigilant TSA agent and then you will need to revert to your pleasant warm fuzzy negotiation and explanation skills :) But please do let us know if you encounter this issue. I am flying in a few weeks so I will check with the local TSA folks but it is also going to come down to the individual agent as I doubt that there is any kind of exclusion for this.

Most times I am not in a location where I can print something without any great effort and I have never had a problem showing them the digital certificate which in my opinion is much safer and less prone to forgery.
