Who knows? Andrew might end up just keeping the red one and using it instead. You will recall he originally got the gray one as a parts truck for the one that got crushed with the fallen tree, but it was better to use the parts truck as it was. We might end up seeing the same thing here, as the red truck may be in better shape(?). Either way, it will be wonderful if we can come along for the ride with his projects! Thank you, Andrew! 😀 👍
The line was too low. It was tied down, when the corner of the trailer dug into the ground it broke the chains. I don’t see why everyone keeps bringing that up trying to Make the accident his fault. When a vehicle is flipped over like that, I don’t see how it still being attached to the trailer makes it any safer.
I wasn't trying to bust your chops. it was just funny because the way it was worded it sounded like the power line caused the accident the Powerline didn't do anything it was just hanging there. The accident started when the trailer tipped over. the driver's fault for driving in soft ground, or tipping the trailer or whatever, it's still his responsibility.
Can you put something under the back of trailer to keep it from rising up in the front, like a temp jack stand and use a bottle jack to raise traiker a little bit in case they get stuck? To me, that would probably work, or at least in theory.

Hey, Andrew. I know this is an older video, but when you patch C-channel or an I beam, the fish plate that goes on the web section should be diamond-shaped, not square. This keeps the same break from happening a few inches down on your vertical weld line.
The old school trick with frame plates that I was taught was, if you don't fish plate, then don't weld the verticals, That said, I usually fish plate. The big thing that usually seems to pop up is the way the trailer had a weak point. A lot of the time the break is at the end of a re-enforcement as was showed, Too much flex in one spot
Even though I restored a 1964 Chevelle, helped on several mustangs, tons of fishing reels and bicycles over the years, you make me feel like I wasted my youth not doing stuff like you do with all your heavy equipment and land. you are a treasure my internet friend. Thank you for all you do.

The YT was an afterthought and now he is finally realizing we all want to help him with YT ad money even if he doesn't need it.
The old over-center binders have a place to pin / wire them secure (they do work if used correctly). Their negative point is the fact they can be either loose or over tight - lack of adjustment... Ratchet binders are the way to go - also if the lever is left correctly, they can't loosen in transit...
LOL, isn't that the truth! Fact is, I love watching guys use their shops like they need/want to. That shop has been USED, you can tell by the way it looks.
@27:00 you mention the height difference of the metal deck vs the wooden deck. I just did a similar project and instead of altering/ removing metal to lower the factory points at the rear of the trailer, I raised the metal deck. Removing metal at the rear of the trailer weakens the already weakest part of the trailer. My solution was to use 2x3 angle iron cut to the same width of the crossmembers. Then turn them to flat on top and weld them along the vertical edge to the original crossmembers' vertical side. That greatly increased the rigidity of the trailer overall. There was a noticeable difference when stepping in the middle of an original crossmember vs stepping on the modified crossmember with the angle welded to it. Removing metal from any trailer is generally the wrong way to solve a problem. The original builders usually make trailer with the bare minimums to start.
Wow, your town still has a J.J. Newberry’s? They went out of business in my state. Awesome job on the trailer rebuild. It looks brand spanking new, only BETTER! 😎 Lots of helpful hints about repairs, tools, and safety issues. Thanks!

Welding ur name AND the VIN on the trailer is a really good idea… especially in hidden places. I’m a 24 year retired LEO… during my years, I often came across trailers, and it was always dang near impossible to find the Vin number. Every manufacturer seems to put them in different places… and yes…they DO fall off.

The major reason for crossing the chains is to prevent chain shock, especially on a sprung load like a car. When you corner chain a car via car frame to bed, as the trailer goes over bumps and swells, the car suspension dips and the chains go slack then slam tight as the car goes back up. This slamming can break chains, buckles, and rip open the keyholes in the car frame. Crossing the chains makes them act more like panhard bars by transferring that bounce energy to the sides. Cross chaining is more about centering a load and controlling movement and less about binding a load tight to the bed. A general rule would be: Totally rigid loads like cargo or machinery that has no springing at the anchor points can be corner chained. Vehicles or anything with pneumatic tires (air filled tires are springs, too!) gets cross chained.
You know my dad walks by and says the same thing. I do wear protective gear and sometimes I'm just getting it done. I think some people always have a reason to not get it done and never do.
@@TrevorDennis100 1/2" or so was the pilot hole. That drill-motor is too high speed, cheap bits, and no oil doesn't help either. A step-drill would have worked a whole lot better.

Looking forward to the engine swap video. And refurbished plow video.
I second the motion! Came here to say "Can't wait for the engine swap video" also.

"My buddy knocked down the power line, but it wasn't his fault. The power line hooked the excavator arm." Priceless ...
Ya but if it was properly secured it should not have detached from the trailer, don't u think?
I’m guessing it happened because someone decided there to good for oversized load permits, or at least the signs
Can you put something under the back of trailer to keep it from rising up in the front, like a temp jack stand and use a bottle jack to raise traiker a little bit in case they get stuck? To me, that would probably work, or at least in theory.
This was like "A day in the life of Andrew Camarata: The movie", more of this please!

@@DillonHFM The real question is why it was built like that to begin with. Cost? or is it crappy design? a little of both?

The old over-center binders have a place to pin / wire them secure (they do work if used correctly). Their negative point is the fact they can be either loose or over tight - lack of adjustment...

I love it. My favorite part has to be the seal installation tool for the wheel bearing. I feel like I'm hanging out with my dad or my cousin. Best frickin channel on youtube.
And today is July 4, 2020. Sitting here watching this video for the second time. Watching a July 4th parade in my livingroom. No other way to do it this year. Happy Independence Day All!
Good addition Grouchy.
