    Looks very impressive when more than 4 locomotives pulling those car wagons. On my country only 2 (max) of locomotives pulling the stuff. But yes i'm living in flat area.

    Back in the day there used to be over 100 class 1 railroads criss crossing the nation,today there are only just 7,CSX and UP for example have many joint operations together even though they're competitors, the blue 53ft containers that say UMAX on the sides are jointly owned by UP and CSX , they also have a special produce train that runs from the Seattle,WA area to Amsterdam,NY with 5 day service commitment ,all 7 roads have some kind of operating agreements with each other which is why we see different power operating like we do now.

    Hello,
    Enjoy very much your videos, I thought I'd take a moment to let people know there is close to two miles of Union Pacific locomotives sitting idle on a side line near Tucson, Arizona. Take a look a some footage shot on the 21st of these massive engines sitting idle in the desert. Marion Mitchell look for the dog. Again thank you for you videos, very impressive.

    Can anyone explain to me why different company locomotives are on the same train? Like the UP and CSX one? I'm in the North East so I see Norfolk Southerns and CSX intermixed sometimes as well and I have always been curious as to why that is. Anyone have an answer or possible explanations?

      KM Lwhen railroads are overhauling their locos they sometimes need to borrow other RR's locos

    • @CPWindsorsub
      @CPWindsorsub 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KM L To add onto what California Rail Productions said they are also sometimes run-through power. If the train originates on a different railroad sometimes the trains will keep the same locomotives to speed up the interchange process if the train is a high priority train. Also, sometimes railroads will have to detour trains over other rail lines if there's a derailment or if they're doing major repairs. So to repay each other they will give locomotives for the other railroad to use to make-up for letting them use their tracks.

      There is an locomotive plant in Erie,PA that builds engines for the different railroads, lets say Union Pacific for example ordered 100 ES44AC from EMD the engine maker in Erie, (and Chicago is the east west interchange point for UP, CSX,BNSF,etc!) as the locomotives become ready to ship the question becomes how do they get their engines? there are basically two ways, the first is the locomotives become part of a shipment in which UP would have to pay the freight charges like all shippers for travel, the second way (and most common) is since CSX and NS has a New York Chicago mainline that goes right by the plant,instead of UP having to pay the freight UP allows by agreement CSX or NS depending on the destination to use their brand new power on CSX consist going west for interchange to Chicago or any interchange point,it's a win win for both railroads, CSX doesn't have to use their own power to move the train,UP doesn't have to pay the freight charges to get their locomotives,as long as the other railroad pays for maintenance and preforms a mandatory FRA, inspection every 92 days they can use that brand new locomotive as long as they need it, another plus for UP the payments for their locomotives don't start until that power is on their home rails.

    • @CPWindsorsub
      @CPWindsorsub 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carl Covington You're close but no cigar. First GE makes the ES44AC's. Second when CSX or NS hauls the units to the home railroad (UP in your example) the new units are shipped dead-in-tow. They don't get activated until they're on home rails. But UP might repay CSX/NS buy letting them use other engines. It's called repaying horsepower hours.
