- Christmas Island grocery store owner Cindy Eng gets no pleasure from charging her customers almost $12 for an iceberg lettuce. Unfortunately, that’s the way it goes when you live on a remote island with high freight costs.

I never knew Christmas island is like a mini-Singapore/Malaysia.

Not corrupt. But a short sighted person who thought millions was a big sum of money at that point. Plus administration of an island far from mainland is costly.

dont bring chinese culture there Cindy.Let the Malays live happily there.Malays from Lenggeng N9 Malaysia went there in 50s & 60s to work as Pearl divers & stayed there.No need to claim its belong to Singapore. Even Singapore is once Malay owned and its going to be retaken later.
