I sincerely hope that Harland and wolf make a better job of the new RFA vessels than they did of Ft Victoria and Ft George that had to go to other yards in UK to be finished as they were so late and over cost and the Irish yard could not commission them. These new ships should have been built at Cammell Lairds and the Irish yard closed. Typical poor decision making by government officials.

@@cmclewee9518 Exactly keep politics out of the projects . Every job from ships , submarines, jets , tanks . All go out to tender , and the tender document set out by the Know hows and setting down standards and time scales . All Companies price the tendors and hand it in to the Military to decide with officials who gets the work . Failure to keep up to date means penalty notices for Companies . Completion on time means a gratuity tax free to every employee who all get the same amount on top of their normal wages . The gratuity can be anywhere from £1,000 each to £5,000 depending on the tendor documents and what’s being built . Regular inspections to confirm standards are high and accurate . This means it’s completed on time or the Company knows right at the beginning what’s at stake . And failure to keep up to date means penalties of 10’s of thousands of pounds a week to get back on track no bail outs by Government. Failure to complete on time and the Company goes bankrupt then another Company takes over to complete the project . No pumping public money into dumb projects like HS2 . If it had been tendered then it would’ve been done properly . Instead where has all that money gone ? Who got rich on that ?

The UK is a AUKUS member so their naval buildup is expected. Their fleet along with the US and Australian fleets are need to compete with a large Chinese naval presence in the Pacific.

Small vessels can not really go to far, and the range which they can engage in, will just be covered by the RAF.

That’s all fine and well about time but. Land forces have to be increased dramatically with military personnel and equipment. You must start recruitment now or implement conscription but,you must increase your ground forces because the clock is ticking and a war is coming and you’re nowhere prepared for it. @@wertrocks123 The Company pays the first Quarter and completion on time they get paid . Fail to complete on time and a good standard they pay penalties every week to get back on time . Tendor Documents go out to price the work and everything must be priced and a completion time . And a gratuity paid tax free to all the employees and no massive payments to directors . Everyone gets the same amount of gratuity on completion on time .

Scottish Shipbuilding has been thriving working with the Ministry of Defence.
Contrast that to Scottish Shipbuilding working with the SNP Scottish Government which is a DISASTER. 2 Ferries, 801 and 802, that are currently 5 years plus LATE, are unable to dock at all their destinations, CANNOT use the Dual Power system due to the Scottish Government (SNP/GREEN) and has had to have the builders BOUGHT OUT by the Scottish Government. So BAD is the Scottish Governments OWN SHIPYARD that future Ferries have been allocated to Turkey and NO FUTURE orders for the SNP Ship Yard.
Independence would see ALL of the Scots Ship Yards CLOSE and only the Ferguson Marine yard left WITH NO NEW ORDERS.

But another thing is it should be put out to ship yards to tender . And the ship yard are responsible to build it at the tender prices . If they are late then charge them penalty clauses .
We are an island, Sea and Air power must take priority. Any extra money must go to RN and RAF. Continental European NATO countries need to bear the burden on land forces.
At 1:03 this is video of one of the Italian LHD's "Trieste". There should be NO excuses from the UK now. Babcock, BAE have won massive ongoing contracts domestically - and have orders from The Australian and Canadian Governments for the type 26. New Zealand is showing interest in the Type 23 FFG so we'll see how this all shakes out. But the surface fleet builds aside, the current left Australian Government has given the UK/US around AUS$5 billion for the "AUKUS" agreement with respect to building the nuclear reactors and design of the new submarine. Why government simply did not ask for a continued "Astute" class order is typical RAN and Russell where all of the uniformed and civilians staff work. The UK government/UK primary contractors are awash with money.

Home waters will need a fleet of multi role patrol ships. While the type 31 is still slightly too big and costly to fulfill that role economically ? With commitments to upgrading nuclear holds a significant amount of the budget ,the cuts and hollowing out of all our defence needs. will need an amalgamation into one defence military , with the Navy once again taking the lead as senior service. With personnel shortages , the government have been shortsighted and wreckless, in all its needs policies.
