  • DIY Acrylic Pour Coasters- Flip Cup Technique
    Thank you for watching my video, I wanted to share how I designed, resin coated, and adding finishing touches to some acrylic pour coasters. I used six coasters with gesso, acrylic paints, resin, and felt backing. I did pour a set of six and then used a different coaster set to put resin on as a client chose a different set I had made, using the same colors. The process is all the same though.
    Here are a few links to the supplies I used:
    Envirotex Lite Resin & Hardner

    Tile

    Nicole Craft Studio Acrylic Paint
    Gesso
    Black Felt
    Mod Podge Glue
    Thank You NCS for providing awesome music

    Thank you so much for sharing your work! I'm renovating my kitchen late spring and would love to make my own tile back-splash using acrylic pouring. I just love how each tile looks like a block of granite.

    Would love to see tiles in black, white and unbleached titanium white and maybe a bad of red too in hopes I get some pink out of it!

    Thank you for your video! Just at the right time for me as I am a acrylic pour newbie. I am an ambitious beginner. So trying everything. But the tiles have seem to have stolen my interest. I have not used resin since my miniature days when making food. And I bought some envirotex pour on. How many coats did you have to use of this? TIA. My fingers are crossed I get it right. I even bought a scale to get the measurements right😁

      So sorry I did not respond to you sooner! I only used one coat of resin. Good luck on your adventure of acrylic pouring! So much fun!

    What did you seal the tiles with and does the sealant allow hot/cold drinks to be placed on them with out leaving a mark?

      I used Envirotex light resin and hardner to seal the tiles. There is a link in the description of where I bought it. I did test it and when you get the RIGHT ratio it can be used for hot and cold drinks. Just be careful with the ratios. I've had some where I didn't mix enough and it turned out sticky to the touch..I also did not get any marks. Good luck!

    Why is it so hard for me to get the right clear coat? All resins I have tried and liquid diamond leave craters and bubbles all over.
    The heat spray is not glossy and hot cup sticks. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Q: what type of glue works for adhering the felt to the tile? Thank you.

      Thank you. I actually threw away the paint containers with the names on them... but i used Nicole Craft Studio Acrylic Paint white, black, light green, pale blue, bright yellow, dark brown, tan, and a mixture of tan and beige.

    Loved your video! Thanks for sharing. How do you get the silicone off your coasters before you resin? I end up having my paint peel off. Any tips would be appreciated. Do you gesso the tiles before you pour?

    How does the resin adsorb condensation from cold drinks

    • @shelbylongartist9547
      @shelbylongartist9547  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Science shows that resin absorbs water, but I do not know how fast that takes for this specific type of resin.

    Why do you use the torch?

      Directly after the pour, I mean.

      Thank you! I use the torch after I pour to get all the bubbles out and to create cells. It is such a fun tool! 🙂

    Do you do anything to prime the stone first?

    • @shelbylongartist9547
      @shelbylongartist9547  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used gesso to prime the stone.

    • @ak47mouth64

      I have been using natural tumbled travertine, marble and slate for a while and all need to be sealed with a sealer designed specifically for natural stone on all sides. This maintains the integrity of the stone and allows the natural beauty of the stone to be incorporated into your pour, if you choose. Also, Envirotex Lite will turn yellow from both direct UV and ambient UV light. So there are better options for resin. Natural stone pieces are exquisite when they are prepped, cured sufficiently and sealed with a product that is proven to withstand heat and moisture with more forgiving usage time and instructions.

      I hope I didn't sound rude, cause I didn't mean too. I am just learning to do dirty pour's on Canvas. It's very addicting. I'm not good enough yet to post on TH-cam like y'all.

      No it's ok. I'm still learning how to edit and insert music. I try to find upbeat music and not everyone likes certain songs. Yes, dirty pouring is addicting. I have been so busy lately I need to do another one. I will be making a 30x40 in for a friend and will video that one. It takes time and patience..

    Im sorry but I feel you let all the pretty colors drip off by tilting it that way instead of working it to have the nice colors. But thank you for sharing.
