      When Doc was with the Nets he had his athletic youth, less stars demanding the touches, and the green light. As a result, that run in the ABA was one of the greatest we have ever seen from any player in any era.

    When Julius came into the NBA and joined George McGinnis,Doug Collins,World B Free and Daryl Dawkins in Philly,that was just as large,maybe even larger than LeBron joining the Heat.I will say that it was larger due to the fact that the two leagues merged in 1976.Just think there was no social media,and no ESPN.Just local TV and game of the week on CBS with Brent Musberger.

      what a joke, Dr j is a one trick pony. tell me one 20 foot jump shot Dr j ever took . never. this guy is revered by so many . people love what? that he takes lay ups and dunks and never has a jump shot . how can he be goat. please someone out here let me know how u can be the best of all time and do lay ups all day long.

    • @ElectricCool
      @ElectricCool 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Quite a few, but dunks make highlights. and no, he wasn't a 3 pt marksman. so what? and if he's so one dimensional. how does he gave a career 24 of avg in both leagues? and who's your favorite player?

    • @kevinaraujo4945
      @kevinaraujo4945 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      24 Ave of all dunks , he had quick first step to the basket. he would lay it up or dunk. don't compare j game to Micheal jordan game not even close. Dr had no jump shot he lost even more faith in his jumper as he got older. Mike always had jump shot Ave 37points in his 2nd year in league

    • @juliuseastwood3936

      kevin araujo One more thing Michael Jordan didn't have an outside shot tell in his mid-career which would have been in the nineties when he started winning championships. I don't know where you get he could shoot jumpers in his second year, you're a moron!

    • @kevinaraujo4945
      @kevinaraujo4945 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so how did he average 37 points a game in that year . actually it was his 3rd year cause his second year he was out with foot injury. no one averages 37 points a game without a good jump shot. don't resort to call people names just because u don't agree with them , this makes u into a coward. don't be mad cause Mike is the best

    Brings back great memories. I remember listening to this game on the radio as a teen in NYC. You couldn't get the home games on TV back then. Guard John Williamson had the quarter of his life in that 4th quarter scoring 16 of his 28 points. When the Nets acquired Nate "Tiny" Archibald, for sure, I thought they'd win a championship in their first year in the NBA. That is, until they had to sell Julius Erving to the 76ers. With a few exceptions, the Nets have been pretty much cursed ever since.

      Saw your comment about listening to the Nets on the radio. In the early 70s, when Rick Barry was still with the team, you could hear the games on WHN AM radio. The announcer use to say, "WHN...We Have the Nets." I remember Al Albert was the announcer. I remember listening to the 1972 playoffs on the radio.

  • @swingandsweat5099

    I was lucky enough to be an ABA fan and live in the New York City area back in the 1970s. I saw Julius Erving and the Nets at Nassau Coliseum in 1974 against the Indiana Pacers. No problem getting tickets, the arena was mostly empty. But what great basketball, and what a great team! Erving was just incredible--he made the impossible look routine. I've always felt that his best years were with the Nets. It was a big mistake for Roy Boe to sell his contract to the 76ers; the Nets were never the same afterwards. And the moves to New Jersey and now Brooklyn were asinine. The Nets should have stayed on Long Island and rebuilt there. Oh, and the classic red, white, and blue racing stripe Nets uniform from the 1970s is still the coolest ever.

    • @elwin38
      @elwin38 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Roy Boe did everything he could to keep Dr J. He didnt have enough money to pay the $3.2 "expansion" fee the NBA charged him and the other 3 ABA clubs. Plus Doc wanted a new contract. Allegedly, after the merger, Doc was supposed to get a new contract from the Nets, Roy Boe either wouldnt(or couldnt) do it so Doc sat out and refused to report to training camp. Doc and the Nets were at an impasse. The Sixers(and Knicks) were interested in acquiring Doc but New York didnt want to pay(not because they couldnt). Meanwhile the NBA wanted their $3.2 mil and the deadline was looming so Roy Boe HAD to make a decision. A few days before the 1976-77 regular season, he was sold to Philly for over $6 million. Roy Boe used part of that money to pay the 4 plus million indemnification fee to the Knicks. The Sixers owner gave him a "new" contract and the rest was history.

      That's true because the coach of the Sixers when they had Doc, McGinnis, and Doug Collins, wanted those 3 players to have equal touches. When Doc was with the Nets, he had the green light and was the go to guy and all the rest were role players.

    Wikipedia on owner Roy Boe States he offered to trade Julius in exchange for the territorial 4.8 owed to the Garden. I saw a documentary on the ABA that because Mr. Irving demanded a new contract forcing Boe to trade him.
    You might be correct, but it wouldn't surprise me that Knicks brass knew Boe's financial woes (no pun intended) and thought they could get the nearly 5M and use it to pay the Doctor, perhaps overconfident that they would wind up with him anyway, because of the Nets $ issues.
