Mike Morrison it’s a super synth! I’m really interested to see what updates will bring with the actual release model because I don’t doubt there will be a new OS shipped with them

I hope it's what I'm looking for in a live performance synth. This will be in my live rig with my Omni2, MiniKorg, Prophet, and Mojo61. :)

Sounds amazing and looks the part! Would love to hear it pit against actual analog such as your Prophet-6 ! (Jupiter-X even has a Sequential filter model)
swancakes it would have to have the authenticity (which as far as sound goes it might as well have) but the 1/1 controls on the System8 are super important to me and there is a lot of menu dependent function on the X so far. I’m excited to see what updates will bring but so far I love playing it, the sound is amazing.... I prefer making patches on the System8 by a long shot but I have a long way to go before I’m even remotely as familiar with the X as I am with the S8
@@MRTUNA I needed to see this comment - it takes a long time to save up the cash for these and the sys 8 seems to have the most hands on. If its menu diving, I'm more into the soft synths for that paired up with good rotary controllers. Roland said this was its most advanced keybed, does it stand up to the hype?
I was playing the System 8 tonight. I love the sounds on speakers, but with headphones it sounds even better. Sure some patches sound a little weak, but with some tweaking they can sound better. I like playing the Korg Prologue 16 too. I was going to trade them toward this synthesizer if it sounds much better. I'm going to have to try it first. :) Keep up the great videos! I'll be watching. Sam.
I've only played the XM but can tell the X also has similar menu diving for advanced patch editing which can get confusing especially when switching models. That said it has tons more polyphony and it's multi-timbral. iARP is also pretty cool and overall both X/XM look infinitely better than S8/AIRA gear imo. Oh and of course the JX8P model is exclusive to X/XM.
Is the sound coming directly out or are you running it through some outboard, just that it sounds a bit distant and grainy to my ears, could be the heavy reverb? It sounds pretty powerful but I wouldnt say it sounds much like a JX8P, could be the patches or the audio quality.
littlegee it’s coming out direct but the reverb tails are weeeeird on the thing sometimes. I haven’t quite figured it out and this may as well be a beta OS on the machine right now.
I've been on the fence...I feel like a LOT of this synth I already have in my System-8 and my MODX. Between the two, I have plug-out analog emulations, plus the awesome System-8 native engine, all the hands-on controls it has, and then the MODX has the huge FM-X engine and tons of ROMpler based sounds. The user interface on the X is not ideal. There's just no excuse for that tiny little LCD and trying to use an LED 7-segment display to show alphanumerics? What is this, 1979? For $2500, no that's not going to do it for me.
It may not be the machine for you in that case. Doesn’t really need to be though right. You kinda have the bases covered. I prefer having the screen, to no screen, like with the System-8. I also like that the screen is not the primary interface, as with the MODX.
@@s.kxx1956 I get that, but have a look at his other Jupiter-X video. There are a LOT of functions that do not have controls, that you would expect. He's having to go menu diving on that tiny screen quite a bit to make basic changes like square wave pulse width, aftertouch, etc., not to mention basic patch browsing.
system-8 is far easier for sound design and even has technically better sound too! The JPX is so beautifully playable and capable those sacrifices seem to matter a little less once you just get to enjoying it. The keybed is 100x nicer and the quality all the way around is second to none............ that all being said I will be keeping my system8. I will be buried with my System8
Is it possible on this board to have splits from 2 different synths, like juno 106 bass line and jupiter 8 pads? Bc if so that's absolutely nuts and well worth any analog purity nonsense. Nice video 👍
Would it have been more intuitive for there too be a bit of separation instead of multi use buttons for emulations? Like a knob selector style to set the mode types.
The only thing I don’t get about the X is why it’s so massive ? Just because the j8s big ? You can guarantee that is just all air inside. They could of made it flatter and modern looking like the Fantom. I thought the Japanese didn’t like to redo the past ?
People wanted the style of the past, they got it. It looks gorgeous. I believe it's intended to be a spacious luxurious gigging instrument like the jp8 before it, and you can't shrink that.
These are an improvement over the Supernatural synth engine of the Jupiter-80/50. Too bad they did not put an ACB model of the Jupiter-8 in the Jupiter-X. The System-8's ACB is still better than the Jupiter-X at not just the initial sound but the way the model behaves. for instance there is no phasing at all on the System-8 (or boutiques) that you do get on the Jupter-X series. That can make it sound thin. Still the Jupiter-X is an improvement over what was offered in the Jupiter-80 (having better classic synth emulations and more real-time control) though the Supernatual acoustic sounds were pretty good on that and are missed on the new Jupiters.
The X and xm uses a different form of acb, rather than the behavior of each circuit component, its the behaviour of the sound, for example there is a temp sensor inside which changes the stability of the sound much like an analog system would behave. Its also more cpu efficient.
Great demo...but it doesn't sound anything like the JX-8P, it's very harsh and digital in my ears, still, it's a lovely VA synth, like my Yamaha AN1X. :-) There's a free JX-8P VST emulation on the web, strangely that sounds exactly like the real synth.
So this is why the real analog from the 70’s and 80’s keeps getting more expensive, these new synth can’t get that sound right. They produce sounds and can do synthesis but nowhere near to the raw original sounds they try to emulate.
quel piccolo display in alto a sinistra, a mio avviso è scomodissimo. Secondo me andava messo centrale. Come anche le due wheels... lassopra. Le trovo scomode. I'm glad Roland got away from the awful green glowing System 8 look. I Like the retro JP8 look except for the colored illuminated buttons. They look cheap. I wish Roland had used the same buttons as on the original JP8. Apart from that the sound is spectacular. I'll bet most vintage purists would fail a blinded comparison test. I hope the JPX also got away from that ridiculous "plug out" scheme. Disabling functions when choosing synth models is an absurd limitation for any serious sound designer.
