When I was eight we moved into the house next door to Mickey's older brother Aubrey in Corpus Christi, TX. I first met Mickey and Jerry when I was 12. Was awesome!!!
Micky and jerry lee look alike there’s a strong resemblance there they both play a mean piano they have a talent to die for love hearing them Good listening to them.
Worth watching to the end. Lewis pounds the living daylights out of that piano. Gilley does indeed, hold his own with his vocals. They are also, indeed, cousins...listen to those two sound alike at times.
Looks like the guitarists forgot to play😀 one of them was watching mickey gilley play and smiled. Anyone would be enthralled and amazed at their playing. Just magic
Two cousins having fun.....so much talent.....just learned a few days ago.....was watching old Johnny Carson reruns......and they had Jerry Lee on......and he admitted he did not read music.......that in my book makes his feats even more increadible......LONG LIVE BOTH COUSINS.....
Theres s clip on youtube where mickey gilley says jerry lee started piano playing at 3. He had his own unique way of playing as we see. His parents got a teacher to teach him the proper fingering of the keys and pkaying but they soon gave up. And the rest is history. They all started to learn by watching the older ones , parents etc play and sing. How lovely.
Nobody can fill their shoes. Just a piano, their voice, a small band, a few microphones, thats all they needed. No scantilly clad back up dancers to distract you from the fact there is no talent on stage, no auto tune, no jumping and dancing around with chains hanging off, just talent.
Carl McVoy was cousin to the young Jerry Lee Lewis and brought home the boogie that Jerry came to Carl’s home to listen to and learn. Carl had a recording career before Jerry or Micky. He’s also worth a listen. This family were all talented musically. I love all their music.
Go see Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee in Branson. Live in person! Mickey is 82 now but hasn’t changed his singing ability. They both are awesome! A concert to remember.
The piano work is really unique. It's a combination / mix of old time rag shuffle and boogie-woogie. It's what makes it so great. Basically came out of that region.
The guy (Lee) is the most natural piano player I’ve ever seen. Music genuinely takes over him as he plays and he cannot just sit there lol such a badass. Gilley ain’t no slouch either! Too bad G doesn’t play in concert anymore :(
this is great watching 2 cousins play piano & sing, they haven't sung together in 25 yrs Jerry Lee said. this is fantastic. God Bless Jerry Lee & Mickey Gilley 7-29-20 thanks for posting
And all 3 use their "Left foot" to use the damper pedal. Right foot to keep time. I've never seem any other piano players do this. It's like using your left foot on a gas pedal!!:-)
Saw Jerry Lee at Gilley's, pasadena. Best show I ever saw. Towards the end of the show Mickey came on stage and at one time both were sitting on the piano bench playing together. Greatest show I ever saw.
My best friend and I were putting a jigsaw puzzle together on the dining room table and my Dad had this on in the living room. We stopped working on the puzzle to watch this. It was great!
I was nowhere near born when this aired on TV, but I have listened to this recording so many times always wondering what it would have been like seeing this live on tv!
About 30 years ago saw them both at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, Ms. Mickey did his show first, then Jerry Lee came out and did his. Then they rolled Mickey's piano out beside Jerry Lee's and they did some songs together. Best concert I've EVER seen! Never seen anybody (except maybe their cousin, Jimmy Swaggart) who could play piano the way these two do! Amazing!

Great old clip. Does anybody remember when Jerry Lee would drop in Bad Bob’s nightclub on Brooks Rd in Memphis and just jam awhile? Damn those were the days.
They could've gone on for hours. Same spirit in Sam Phillip's Sun Record Studio...when Killer got together with Elvis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. Wo Daddy!
If the Grand mother of all three Jimmy Swaggerr, Jerry lee and Mickey wouldn't have taught them How to play they probably wouldn't have been stars. They Owe their lives to that woman litteraly...
Like poetic prose in songsmiths the lyric presentation makes one sentimental. Like Julie London vocalist in the 40s/50s sultry song interpretation akin to Jo Stafford. Both cousins sound wonderful in dueling pianos. God bless.
You got that right because the amount of music created, produced and recorded during that 20 year span could easily be enough rock-n-roll to fuel mankind for eternity! Imho
I guess I look at things differently than some. When I get the chance to hear two great talents play together, I don't think about which one was the best or who left who in the dust. I think about how lucky I am to get to hear them play together. I enjoyed it.

The Lewis Boogie. Rock and Roll is here to stay, I don't care what they say. The third verse and the solo (starts 8:02...), Jerry and the band have reached full intensity. :) #jams #thestandard #yeahgowild
The world will never see the likes of them again! RIP gentleman......we will miss you greatly!
So very true 😂
The music is in Jerry Lee! It possesses him and takes over him!
There will NEVER be a Jerry Lee Lewis or a Mickey Gilley. Fantastic piano players who could tear up the piano. Masters
Their cousin Swaggart ain't too bad either on the 88

That’s pretty incredible when you see the close up on Jerry banging the keys at the end . Never see another like him
i like when jerry sings those old soulful country songs. the one about his mama. so sad.

Wow I’m 64 I grew up with these guys pure class and a boat load of talent wow I can still remember my dad and I saw Jerry lee play piano on tv wow
Two of the greatest boogie players of all time.
Jerry Lee was a born rock star!
Jerry Lee is one of a kind. Seen him twice back in. The sixties

Lots of similarities in their voices. Awesome musical times.
Family voices, always good.
Two Great American Music Legends!

Both country icons in their own right! Love it!
Nobody can play the piano like these men and their cousin Bro. Jimmy Swaggart! i wish todays music was like this! Love this kind of piano playing!
Jerry and perhaps 4 or 5 others were truly the real pioneers of rock n roll. And his song Great Balls of Fire was right there at the beginning!
If I could only play the piano like these guys......oh boy....!!!!
Dang how I love watching and listening ....... I’m surprised the piano 🎹 keys didn’t catch fire 🔥
The piano work is really unique. It's a combination / mix of old time rag shuffle and boogie-woogie. It's what makes it so great. Basically came out of that region.
Both need Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and have it done while they are still alive.
Finally Jerry Lee Lewis got inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame!!!!!
In the nick of time
Right! Not years after their passing, like they did to Conway Twitty.
Too late . They are gone.😢
Agree 💯
The guy (Lee) is the most natural piano player I’ve ever seen. Music genuinely takes over him as he plays and he cannot just sit there lol such a badass. Gilley ain’t no slouch either! Too bad G doesn’t play in concert anymore :(
I read somewhere he had a fall and a stroke?
Raw talent.
Uncle Mickey and cousin Jerry.... Fun memories from growing up.

JIMMY SWAGGART one of them..LORD have mercy,, talents from God!
The grandparents of these 3 must have been really skilled musicians. They all play excellent and can sing. You get into their playing.

Great players ! Family reunions with them must have been awesome!
Jerry Lee Lewis..the God of piano!!
OMG Jerry Lee didn't play piano he attacked it. I love it!
Clint Caldwell one might say he attacked it just as efficiently as Mormon raping a 12 year old.. wait .. he did that too! Yay! The cultural hero!!
galapagoensis you are an ignorant fool.
Saw Jerry Lee in Birmingham, England in the 60´s together with Jean Vincent.
he set fire to his piano & brought the house down with his closing number
BOY LOOK AT ALL THAT PIANO TALENT , BOTH TOGETHER WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Can you imagine how it would sound if all 3 of them were playing? Wow
Check out the Caribou Sessions
So fun to watch two cousins who are both such talented country artists play & sing together. Thanks for sharing 🎶❤️
Only Jerry Lee could finish a jam by sitting ON the piano! 🤣
Great music. Not any today.
No words can truly describe the joy of good music
RIP Jerry, you will be missed!
Ha, I saw this show when it first aired back in the 70’s. Good stuff

Love how Mickey and Jimmy took up the same style of playing like Jeery Lee. Awsome family tradition
I did not know they were related and grew up together. That explains why they played the same style on the piano. Awesome performance.
These are the true greats!

I could listen to roses two together for hours!
EXACTLY! Not like most of today's no-talents who would be completely lost without backup musicians and auto-tune!
