There were some editing errors all over the episode. They showed alchemy versions of some cards on-screen like Minsc and Boo as well as Circuit Mender.
This is where I stopped watching. I miss the commanders being announced pre game. 3/10

@@esimplx Even when we didn't know what jeremy's deck was doing for the first fifteen minutes and then it showed the wrong commander during the tech?
Just to let y'all know, the Zimone and Dina thumbnail during Jeremy's deck tech is Orthion not Zimone and Dina
And the wrong Minsc and Boo was shown - they put in the arena version which costs 1 extra generic than the printed one.

Errant and Giada says "You may cast spells with flash or flying from the top of your library.", it doesn't say "you can cast spells with flying as though they had flash" though. Stephen casts the Chrome Host Seedshark on Jeremy's turn though.
Did you not see them immediately call him out on it so he instead brainstormed it on top of his deck and then cast it from there
@@Goblin6494 Yes, but it still doesn't have flash. It lets you cast flying spells from the top of your library. It doesn't give creatures with flying flash, so you can cast them on other players turns.

The volume on this episode feels really low. I mean, it always feel low on this channel, but its especially low today.
It went back to normal at the wrap up... Right when corey rang the bell like 4 times. Yeah someone needs to look at the mix levels.
Yeah I thought it was just John and Jeremy were low until I realized it was everybody was low ... unless it was Corey or Stephen yelling.
I'm with John. The teamups are bad flavor.
You completely flubbed Jeremy's deck tech. A ton of cards never hit the overhead and two that did were the Arena rebalance images. The audio on this episode was poor. Come on editor. You have all this time to put in all that softcore porn music that you've been getting nothing but complaints about for months now. Use that time to make the show understandable please.
I didn't form a complete opinion about the placement of the deck techs until now. I prefer the old way. For me, I'd like to know what the guys are trying to accomplish before they start casting spells.
Also, giving people the option to skip the deck techs if they don't care for them by putting them all up front makes for a better user experience.
Seedshark doesn't have flash.
Corey fails to shuffle his entire deck at 28:14.
Corey is completely wrong about how flip cards work with devotion. They have the same mana value on both sides, but devotion counts the pips it can literally see.
They were wrong about how Xenagos works to be a creature with effects that cause him to lose abilities, but that's a very complex rule interaction. You wouldn't know that simply by reading the cards.
I was already excited to build a deck around the new Etali, but seeing it on display here has only amplified that excitement!

At 28:10, Jon, Stephen, and Jeremy look at Corey like he is a kid opening up his parent's presents on Christmas. It is adorable
Corey, Klauth doesn't make 4 mana, he makes 23. Total power of attacking creatures gets kinda silly.
....you read your commander wrong steven. It does not give your flyers flash. You can cast things that have the keyword flash and have the keyword flying from the top of your deck. Its weirdly worded, so I get how you messed this one up at least, I had to read it 2 times before I was sure you were reading it wrong.

@Brian Smith but he can't. It doesn't have flash and his commander doesn't give it flash. He cast at instant speed which is wrong
@@Goblin6494 the commander does not GIVE FLASH. It only cares about things WITH flash, and it cares about things WITH flying. It is very weirdly worded, but it does not grant any keywords to cards, even though it looks like it does.
John was wrong on the xenagos creature bit, the devotion ability makes it not a creature unless . . . With that ability gone the game just sees its card types.
But it’s not a creature, so it doesn’t lose any abilities. So it works normally.
@@ToSGod no, the enchantment looks at the card on the stack sees a creature, resolves and wipes xenagos' abilities so it's just a legendary enchantment creature - god, those are it's card types not abilities. If it were an enchantment card that becomes a creature with devotion you'd be right. But since the card types include creature and it only loses that type due to the ability, without the ability it's just a creature.

@@ChromeDome72 Actually even if Xenagos loses its ability to not be a creature, we will apply type changing effects in Layer 4 and we apply ability gaining/losing effects in layer 6, so Xenagos’ ability to be not a creature applies before Xenagos has the chance to lose its abilities. Mystic Subdual will not change Xenagos’ creature status one way or the other, if Xenegos is a creature and then devotion later falls below 7, Mystic Subdual would fall off as it would no longer be a creature.
Kinda find the usage of the Alchemy version of Minsc & Boo kinda hilarious
Xenagos not being a creature is a continous effect that hits on layer 4, the enchantment that hits Xenagos affects on Layer 6, so Xenagos would still be a creature but would lose the ability to pump in combat. If Xenagos devotion goes beneth 7 with the Aura, it would become an enchantment and then the Aura would fall of as it is no longer a valid target. Min 39:03
It also loses the ability that makes it not a creature doesn’t it?
@@najomage Its a dependency issue, as both effects are continous effects. The Aura depends on xenagos effect to be able to affect it (it needs xenagos to be a creature to be able to affect it), so it applies after Xenagos effect applies (as its not dependent of the aura itself) so it applies first. With layers it does not backtrack once an effect applies so that part, even though is an ability it is hitting first so it still remains even though he looses all abilities. Its similar to Magus of the moon still making non basics into mountains even if you apply the same aura.
@@Brainstorm_brews It isn’t a dependency, as dependencies only apply to affects that apply on the same layer, this is simply a layers issue, to which the rest of your statement is correct. John is wrong in thinking that Xenagos would stop being a creature, because the devotion doesn’t change. We apply the type changing affect, then later remove that ability, similar to how Dress Down interacts with Dryad of the Illysian Grove, which will leave all of the Dryad’s controller’s lands as all types, even after the Dryad loses all abilities.

You guys really dropped the ball on the card images this episode. Multiple cards were not shown--even Jeremy's commander during the deck tech was messed up.
I feel like half this episode was Corey trying to figure out what the cards in his deck did.

@@CoreyBMTG yeah, I started in 2018, but because of lockdown, stopped playing until late last year, and it’s definitely hard keeping up with all the different cards/what they do, especially when everyone else seems to have everything memorized

This is a very silly thing, but by my understanding transformed cards do not count for devotion. They have the Mana Value of the front side for certain purposes, but it has a blank Mana Cost so it does not have mana symbols for devotion. It's very silly.
Nah transformed cards keep their mana value after flipping.
@@brettpelster6952 mana value, yes, but Rakor is correct. The backside has no colored pips showing so it doesn't add to devotion.
When Corey played Explore and was trying to figure out what it does, I was like, "Didn't you watch Burtoncheaty?!"
Why is Jon and Jeremy's audio so low?
Edit - actually, the entire video is just low unless its Corey or Stephen screaming.
Really upsetting to see another video where the commander is misread and therefore played incorrectly. I would have hoped that they resolved this kind of issue since the episode with Feldon. Ruins the point of getting to see the commanders strategies try to play out.
Jeremy starting the episode with "Say hi to your Mom" is absolutely unhinged 🤣
Some constructive criticism: this episode had low volume and way too many cuts; the old format where you focused more on the game and the cards being played was far superior.
Director criticism: Jeremy didn't have his Commander displayed instead it was John's. Also you guys forgot to do the points update at the end of the episode.
Good to see Corey play something besides blue. Poor Jeremy can't ever seem to get to Villainous Wealth. Also Corey saying he won't forget how John kept first place all last season and then let's John get second again.
Probably the worst quality episode yet.

I think they played new etali wrong, it exiles until it hits a non land so it couldn’t have exiled a ash barrens.

@@markbrierley6367 its was off Steven's deck I thought? And they did it right he kept going and hit the selfless squire, he just left the ash barrens in exile which was weird on my first watch. I thought the new Etali had you shuffle them back in but he does not suprisingly.

Just wanted to mention that usually you do a great job with showing the cards played, but this time was, compared to other times, a disaster. Many played cards were missing and half of them were the alchemy versions of Arena.
Please consider that not everybody know or remembers all cards, Zimone and Dina didn't appear once.
Please do deck techs before the game, and also put the cards played in the overlay. The sound mixing is quite bad and it's not always clear which card is being played
Are we unable to show the real cards as they are printed? Or is showing the arena changed cards the only option?
The music was far quieter this week, thank you. Awesome game as well.

Hello to you guys! I simply wanted to say that I sadly stopped watching commander VS since there is music in the background. I don't know why but I prefered when it was simply you guys enjoying the game. I look from time to time if there is still music in the background to start watching again. I don't know if i'm alone in this situation but I wanted to say my opinion. Thank you!

I love Corey, but this constant stop to read what the cards do is frustrating the progress of the game 😥
I hate how they don't show all the cards they are playing. It took me a long while to research blue enchantments with flash to find out what was the card Stephen played (Dress Down) and understand what happened.

Wow, there was some weird stuff in this episode, im on like 20 mins right now and i'm baffled why didn't Corey on his attack (on 17:00) with Klauth generate 8 mana?? - he could cast Etali easy. And Sthephen is playing his commander wrong, casting stuff from his library like they have flash, reading the card explains the card eh?

I think Stephen played “Dress Down” in response to Corey going to attacks with Klauth, hard to see what it was cause they didn’t put it on screen he just say “that card we were talking about and sheoldred loses all abilities”

The quality of this video was abyssmal. Almost no time on the overhead cam, audio completely quiet during the game. Jeremy's commander didn't show during deck tech. Then the usual gameplay misplays.
Oh wait do flipped cards add for devotion? Last i checked they still have a cmc, but no actual mana cost so they would not add to devotion. But mdfc rules changed recently so im not sure.
You are correct, transformed permanents maintain mana value, but have no colored pops to add to devotion.
Pretty sure that Xenagos would still be a creature because of the same layer rule that applies for Opalence and Humility
Loosing abilities is really low down on the layers list so basically everything else trumps it.
I could be totally wrong though. I don't fully understand the rule.
Type changing abilities are on layer 4, gaining/losing abilities is on layer 6, so Xenagos losing abilities will have no affect on whether or not his devotion ability will change his type. Same reason why Dryad of Illysian Grove and Magis of the Moon still change land types through these effects.
If Jon made 5 chainwhirlers on his last turn, that would put Corey to 18 with no blockers and he would have 18 power of chainwhirlers right? What am I missing? It's hard to know what's going on when the cards aren't displayed and the audio is so low.

I believe Stephen played "Venser shaper savant" which can return any permanent to hand, but also can return a spell to hand. So he was using Venser to bounce etali from the stack before it etbs.

How? The gameplay was mostly one sided and the editing was awful. Have you even seen the episode when they trolled Justin by surprise forcing him to play a 4 way monoU mill game? Did you see the horde episode where they saw victory in their grasp and just for fun they threw Stephen under the bus? Did you see Ladys Looking Left or Chair Tribal?

OMG! What POSSIBLE reason could Jon have for not liking team up cards??? They’re just gold border legendary creatures! I had heard there was some ridiculous online whining about the cards, but had never heard a real reason and didn’t know they had a champion for the whining. Just one more reason to hope Jon loses every week.
I know my reason is that it's stupid from a lore perspective. You cast a creature spell you get a creature or a pack of similars. The previous 10 couples cards were just that: couples, either siblings or bonded.

If Golos can get banned, I can see this new Etali getting banned. Corey catapulted ahead the second he resolved Etali.
Unfortunately Etali's not even close to ban-able he's only 2 colors he doesn't ramp out his own commander tax and getting a free spell from each player is no stronger than chaos wand style cards.

I have won games with that card don't even, they swing with everything and tap out, I play that BOMB and then its my turn and I got a 34/34 coming at them. So many times I have won that way its funny, specially against dragons since most do not have vigilance.
I'd love to see an episode where you guys don't show what commander you are playing until you go to cast it.
You guys have done special rules for commander games in the past.
I am hoping you could do a BATTLES commander game.
Either have a battle as your commander, or a partner to your commander. If you choose the partner option, I was thinking of the rules you used for the DND Class enchantments.
