    Someone needs to write this book as history of crypto. This is. Awesome

    Loved this discussion. One additional perspective that a historian can help us understand is how the opportunity and optimism of crypto stands to be commandeered. For those of us that were around to see the similar rise of the Early Internet, there is a similar techno-utopian optimism. In many ways the optimistic scenario did play out, however, we also know how web2 was commandeered by corporate interests. As we work on buildring the world of digital value, it's great to have positive shining lights help guide our vision, such as the inspiring optimism that Rosenthal offers us. At the same time, we need to be on guard, and have plans for not only the bright future we can all envision, but also to make sure that we are pretended to defend the future we are trying to build.

      Thanks so much and 100% It's a fair point on all fronts. And this is admittedly optimistic, but hopefully a counterbalance to shade from the stands. All the more reason to participate in the experiment, get into the lab!
      Action items: 1) get political, 2) build (aka trick folks into doing the right thing : - ), 3) help others (governance, public goods, edu on this exact issue!)

      Thanks for the note - at its core, crypto isn't spot trading or pics of pixelated cats, but part of an epic historical story echoing through the ages - from renaissance, to revolution unto today!

    the feeling that we just see the patterns we want to see is strong , but still the deeper the rational analysis the stronger the confirmation , but history always finds a way to humble us , that's the paradoxical circle of holding somewhat rational conviction knowing there are unknown unknowns , just simply being brave

      Thanks for the kind words. Tried to make this self standing, but there's definitely a good deal of context, and even connective tissue with the first episode: th-cam.com/video/karddOiv4ZA/w-d-xo.html

    you should view the government and regulators as a player playing a RTS game , maybe there is no malevolence ,there is just a total disregard ,in playing a game , for subjects to achieve one's overall goal that may or may not be fruitful in the end , just remember how many games you lost playing RTSs

    • @joshrosenthal9026
      @joshrosenthal9026 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words - it's very much the next chapter in the story - on one hand self-standing enough, but watching the original gives not only context, but hopefully the sense that these are iterations - aka chapters in the same story, same characters (just with different names : - )

    if this Episode was a cake... it would be fruit, because it is DENSE. I listen to most podcasts at 1.25-1.5X.... i recommend 0.75 for this.

    • @elcrucius
      @elcrucius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lmao hilarious cuz I usually listen to long podcasts at 2X so i had to bump it down to 1.5X but yea definitely a dense one. Even more than slowing down, i just found myself pausing every few minutes to just think about random tangents inspired by the convo.

    • @joshrosenthal9026
      @joshrosenthal9026 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elcrucius Love it - at its best, history serves as a lens for not only viewing the past anew, but also new also current 'random' tangents - all the best results come from these experiments!

    • @joshrosenthal9026
      @joshrosenthal9026 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@elcrucius Thanks! At its best history not only serves as a lens to view the past anew but explore current contexts - and the 'random tangents' are the best stimulus for the most meaningful experiments!

    You guys really think waayyyy too much of the USA

    • @joshrosenthal9026
      @joshrosenthal9026 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps... or perhaps too little. In any case, like crypto, history's open. Disagree with the premise, details, example, or analogs? Don't like the idea of one using one's experience as a lens to understand something new? Fair enough, after revisionism/critique, then what? Tell your own story - not just how other stories are wrong/biased, but what do you have to say? The good news is that both crypto and history are open - can wait to see what you come up with on either front!

      Fair enough - but have to ask, out of everything covered - recreation from renaissance into revolution, vocation to pursue your interests and help your neighbor and public goods, speed running finance, art, identity, edu, work, and governance, that's the part that sticks? If so, good news! The message is all about building, so build your own map and narrate however most helpful - all the material's out there - with plenty of helps to get you rolling in the notes. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
