that moving scroll probably wore out the slots that allow that scroll move ... clearances are soo tight on those scrolls any excess movement creates terrible noises ... probably going to give a Danfoss replacement scroll ... next level steve!

Sounds like a coffee can full of marbles. Someone used acid based coil cleaner on that unit too. I'd just replace the whole unit next year. Some more business for next cooling season Steve.
sounds like the rust inhibitor bug we had 8 times this summer with scrolls , use the ac renew after the change out. just in case it did work every time .just saying we changed out a 3 year old system compressor under warranty 3 times and the 3rd re Michel said use this and this system is fine and the others as well. who knows it sounded like what we heard good luck
Yeah but if the coil was leaking, AND the compressor is bad, isnt the whole unit junk? Did Carrier cover both the compressor and the coil under warranty for that lady?

BUT THIS SUMMER THE UNIT WONT SHUT DOWN.EVER. VERY STRANGE AND.WE CAN'T FIGURE OUTVHOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE (can't ask the neighbor cuz he is really ahresive and rude to everyone and don't want to be on his radar.

steven lavimoniere I had one to sound close to that. Come to find out it was the valves that was making to noise. They were weak and not able to close all the way. But that one was like 17 years old.
Hi so that thing doesn't control the heat!? Cause I've been hearing strange noise! Like is if someone is using an electric pencil sharper every 2-3 minutes! Then woke up one morning to a whole different noise so I cut it off.... weather in GA kinda cold!
Hello there! Did you ever find out what was wrong with your AC unit? I have the exact same problem. Every few minutes it will make this weird sound (pencil sharpener is the perfect comparison haha). It only lasts for a a few seconds then goes away.

A scoll.compressor doesn't have any pistons in it, that's why it's called a scroll compressor because it's has two scrolls that compress the fluid

I replaced an LG compressor ina Carrier unit it was only 3 years old. They should stay in the TV business.
We just got ac and it susposed to be under warranty but it sounds horrid at start then stops and foes it everytime it kicks on
i have rebuild so many of there 2 stage units. where high stage drops out or hangs up

I have the M500 you check it with the compressor off put the red on a compressor terminal and the black on a ground/discharge line

compressor was locked up and wouldn't start ... hard start boosts the voltage to make that compressor start
Boost the voltage more then the voltage from capacitor?
Yes ... hard start is a brand all it is is a self contained potential relay ... it has the potential to add if needed
