11 years in the British Army. I went to Belize in 2007 for jungle training. It was probably the best thing I’ve ever done. I still think about it now. Loved my time there and would love to go back. Amazing country.

Phoenix Squadron by Rowland White. I read it. I still try and buy my bananas from Belize... except the UK's (and EU) trade terms with former colonies was determind, by the USA, to be restrictive practices and the UK had to abide by WTO open market rules. All this meant we now buy from places that have banana plantations more likely to be owned by US companies.
So when certain people were saying we could trade on WTO rules recently, I knew it wasn't going to be as good as they claimed.

@@TommyBahama84 yeah, but we don't live in Africa do we? And this comment wasn't about Africa either. We are talking about the British part in the slave trade. So let's stay on topic. I understand that this brings up feelings of guilt, and is emotional for you. But you need to know that most of Britain was built with the riches obtained from Slavery, and colonialism. What you do with that information is up to you.

I find it very interesting that Guatemala claims Belize (historical reasons)cause Mexico claims Guatemala (historical reasons)!. When i was in all three countries in the eighties i saw British soldiers that even ran off, and met both Japanese and American spies etc. Am very happy that the British soldiers are back as when i was there the Chinese had started to come in. People did anything! contrabend was a way of life going straight up to the banks in Panama. Also people from the Middle East started to come in as well. Both Mexico and Guatemala make the claim because the whole area is chiefly Maya Territory!.

I admire the Belize people wanting to be free with their own country. As is the norm, everywhere, people get along with each other no matter which side of the border they live on. Trouble is caused by governments not the people. Example, check out Leticia, Colombia. Where three countries come together, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil. I've been there so I know.
