    I would never have bought one years ago as they were a bit cliched (hairdresser etc etc), but it seems like a car that has matured through the generations. A grown up car that isn't seen as a bit of a novelty anymore.

    I've recently bought a virtually identical car to this one (only the Quattro model) having had my M135i written off in a flood. The stand out positives for me are the ride is better- far less crashy than the BMW despite being on larger rims and the handling is really sharp. Brakes feels strong despite being smaller disks and calipers than my old car. Cabin build quality is another level too- I thought the BMW had a good cabin but there were some cheap feeling plastics in lower areas. And I have the Matrix LED headlights which are incredible.
    Some negatives though- fuel economy seems worse than the m135i despite being 1 litre, 2 cylinders and 100 bhp down on that car. And I can't believe how tight Audi are with the options- I've only got rear parking sensors and there's not even a radar display (my 2008 Scirocco had that FFS!), no power folding mirrors, no centre arm rest (on an S-Line? WTF?! I don't remember the last car I owned that didn't have this) and the fake engine noise is kind of annoying- it doesn't come close to the sound of that BMW straight 6.
    But the biggest plus is the look of the thing, it's stunning definitely a car you glance back at after you've parked!

    • @oddities-whatnot
      @oddities-whatnot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      “Cheap plastics in lower areas”. Yes, areas of the cabin you don’t look at OR touch. Wow. How DID we manage to survive with car interiors being full of plastic in the 1980s ? Millennials started all this obsession with soft touch interiors. They have a nervous breakdown if life isn’t perfect.

    • @staggabob
      @staggabob 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@oddities-whatnot Did my comment hit a nerve? The plastic parts I'm referring to are the trim around the gear lever, hand brake and glove compartment in the BMW so yes, you touch them quite a lot actually. The Audi is much higher quality in these areas which is why I mentioned it- I'm comparing 2 premium brand cars and it's clearly an area where the Audi is better.
      As for your attempted "Millennial" dig I sadly don't fall into that category. My first car was a 1978 mini and I've had plenty of cars from the 80s and 90s. If you're not bothered by cabin quality there's plenty of modern cars to choose from- even VW have gone backwards recently.

    Good review. I have a mark 1 . You said good but mark 2 looks better..really? I think the mark 1 with its retro styling inside and out still looks great today. The mark 2 has all the contours of the mark 1 smoothed out and looks a more bland car to me. I like the mark 3, except the infotainment all straight ahead of you, I'd prefer it to the side.

    Over the years, I ve driven all sorts of cars. A wide range of power and handling capabilities. Back in 2012 my wife bought a 6 month old TTS. When I drove it I got all the hairdresser comments. But that thing was a B road weapon. The perfect mixture of handling and punch out of the corners. It's still right up there for me in terms of point to point speed but still had the civility. Was so fast and capable.
