- I invited my famous foodie friend here in China, Rio 睿哥 @1001RIO to try British cuisine for the FIRST TIME EVER! Can she accept it? And more importantly, can China accept it?
If you remember the last video I filmed with Rio, the Chinese girl who cannot get full, ( • The Chinese Girl Who N... ) you might remember that I lost a kebab eating contest. My punishment was that I had to treat Rio and take her to eat British food.
There aren't many restaurants serving British food in China, probably because most Chinese people think that British food is terrible. But I found one! So, do you think a Chinese foodie will like trying some of the most traditional British dishes you can try?

司徒是和很多的英国年轻人很不一样。我接触过太多的英国年轻人了，真的是没教养到暴。看到有位到中国教书的英国老师，就直接不想回英国教书了。他说英国学完全不尊敬老师，根本没法和中国学生的态度比。更糟的是很多英国父母不但不管教孩子，好不停的投诉英国的老师。所以很多在英国教书的，都不想教下去。

問題不是英國菜好不好吃，而是種類實在太少，吃來吃去就那幾樣。中國隨便一條魚就能做出百樣吃法。

就那几样里面还有接近3成不好接受，能接受的里面一半以上味道平平，算得上好吃的没多少了
中国一个省吃的东西来来回回不也就那几样么，尤其是内陆地区的。

@The China Traveller - - Absolutely nailed it with this one, mate, best video to date!! 🇬🇧 Keep flying the flag for good old British fare-our cuisine deserves to be showcased in China, and you're just the guy to do it. It has to be said, you're super lucky to have access to such a restaurant right there in Beijing, wish they had this as a chain restaurant all over China though, as it looks top notch and offers up such a unique experience to the Chinese!... Honestly, they don’t know what they’re missing! We need more classic British bistros popping up over there, eh? Can't wait to see what you share next!!

I learned so much in this video: what stargazy pie, sarnies, bap bread, and brown sauce are; that fish and chips is better in the north of the UK; 'that pudding' is informal for dessert in the UK; etc. The steak and ale pie and the desserts looked amazing, and the size of the fish fillet was impressive! It's cool to be reminded of the diversity of Chinese people, too, and to know that the guest is part Manchurian~
There's also "Steak and Kidney pudding" which isn't a desert at all, so be careful. It's good though :D

哇塞，这集不错，都是我爱吃的，要是有Fishpie就更好了，感觉也会比较受中国人的喜欢。
My favourite English dishes:
1) roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, flooded with genuine gravy (gravy made from the roast beef juices).
2) Fish and chips with lots of vinegar. For some reason, its difficult to get strong vinegar now. Most taste like water.
3) All washed down with a pint of London's pride. Best British ale money can buy 😂

英国最好吃还是传统早餐，我的选择是：一大杯果汁(苹果或橙)，一大勺番茄酱煮黄豆，两条香肠，一个煎蛋，半个烤过一点的番茄，半个水煮土豆，一些蘑菇，一些果酱，两片吐司面包，里面只抹黄油与蜜糖，绝配。以上这些，我要吃两份，如果是在苏格兰，香肠我替换成苏格兰羊杂碎做的饼(Scotish haggis)，不大但就掌心大一块的。不是很喜欢吃土豆泥，但如果吃的话，得蘸那啥一种紫黑色的果酱(蓝莓酱?)才好吃。以上这些只有在住旅馆的时候才吃，包早餐的那种，比如：holiday inn, travellodge, premier inn啥的，而且肯定选择包早餐，去英国早餐必吃的。

水煮土豆吗？应该是hash browns 才正宗吧。还要有培根

The best/tastiest English food for the Chinese is probably English breakfast. Yorkshire pudding is ok, but no meat there. Beef stew is another dish Chinese people may like.

看着很好啊。我不知道为什么很多人看不上炸鱼薯条，但是我很喜欢。我家距离 Santa Cruz 栈桥不算太远。栈桥顶端有一家墨西哥人开的店，我经常带娃一起去买个炸鱼汉堡，一边吃一边看海豹。
我在加拿大很长时间。 Greek food 感觉更符合中国人口味 。西餐什么炸鱼薯条 汉堡 热狗 还是吃不惯
我一个在英国念了高中+大学+硕士的朋友说，英国菜就是：Beef and Bean，Fish and chips。无关于好吃与不好吃，关键在于你要会创造，比如他创造出来的，土豆的365种吃法。
I never heard of 'stargazy pie'...well, maybe, but I'd totally forgotten about it, and when I looked it up it seemed to jog a memory. Never had it though.

The best fish and chips I've had is in London - Poppies in/near Spitalfields Market (and one in Soho too?) - but it'll be good anywhere on the coast too, IMO. I don't think it's better 'up north' per se.

British food is underrated. We just do a really bad job of marketing and catering it, but the national recipe book is quite extensive, with lots of foods of regional origin.
Absolutely. We do a terrible job of marketing. They only thing we do market is fish and chips. And I'm guilty of that here too.

Lincolnshire sausages are the best, imo - there's even some vegetarian ones that are delicious (Cauldron brand - DO NOT GET Linda McCartny - they're terrible).

@@zhongguofuxing 中国多大？英国这面积有这些菜可以了，而且烘烤煎炸的东西和炒菜炖汤完全不是平替关系，而是不同类型的美食，天天吃炒菜炖汤你肯定也想吃点不一样的，就算是中式的烘烤煎炸，也都不是容易做的菜，要不是过节，谁没事放一锅油来炸东西，肥肠自己都懒得洗，更不要说烤鸭之类的，几乎和香肠一样只能在外面买，在家吃的最多的还是万年不变的炒菜。

I understand British food is new to Rio including navigating with fork and knife. So it's quite difficult to watch when she doesn't follow the British table etiquette i.e. not cutting and putting food in the mouth in one small piece at a time. Overall, it's an interesting episode.
Chinese don't mind when foreigners eat with their fingers or forks instead of using chopsticks, so I don't know why British should be so bothered about their etiquette.

it is difficult till you realise that using a knife and fork isn't normal to the Chinese, and when using chopsticks you can't really cut with them... unlike watching American's where a knife and fork is their main way of eating, yet most hold them like they were taught by bears.

在英国呆了六年，其实没这么难吃，英国菜最差的是因为种类少，土豆，馅饼，豆子还有肉类。其实好吃的fish&chips还是不错的

Arrow Factory Brewing at Liangmahe
been to the Arrow Factory Brewery (old and new), enjoyed their Pie (beef&champignon) and sausages, beer is superb. pity the old waterhole didn't survive, but the new one at Liangmahe has a great vibe. As for English food... i stand with Fish&Chips, not Haggis, hahaha... @Stu you chould persuade Arrow to include Haggis in the menu.😄

Yeah, can't get good cod in Beijing - it's a different fish from the atlantic cod. Perhaps we'll get some if they make a route through the arctic, since most of the UK's comes from Russia, iinm (and I think I read that Russia has stopped exporting to the UK because...well...you know).
