  • This presentation briefly touches on the current state of metacognitive literature and its intersection with prospective memory (remembering to do something in the future).
The conversation will highlight how older adults and those with MCI fare in prospective memory performance and how predicting and postdicting performances assisted in prospective memory successes, regardless of neurocognitive status.
The presentation will also provide realistic metacognitive strategies that the audience is able take advantage of in their own daily lives.
This work connects with CEP's vision by providing additional insights and concrete steps that may improve prospective memory performance in everyday life, relieving stress and providing hope for those with MCI and their families.
Dr. Huber is a clinical neuropsychology fellow at Emory within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. She completed her doctoral degree at Idaho State University where she studied metacognitive strategies for older adults with and without neurodegenerative disorders. She finished her internship through the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where she fell in love with acute rehabilitation populations. At Emory, she primarily serves the acute care inpatient rehabilitation unit. Here, she provides both neuropsychological assessment and treatment services for people who have undergone neurological and physical trauma, while she communicates important assessment and treatment aspects to an interdisciplinary treatment team. She additionally serves the outpatient community by providing cognitive assessments, cognitive rehabilitation therapy, and individual psychotherapy.
CEP Community Live is a supportive space that offers weekly informative videos and discussions for those with early-stage memory loss, also known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), their care partners and families, and clinicians.
MCI is a condition characterized by a noticeable decline in memory and cognitive abilities that is greater than what would be considered normal for a person's age but not severe enough to interfere significantly with daily life activities. It is a transitional stage between normal age-related cognitive changes and more serious cognitive impairment, such as dementia.
CEP Community Live is supported by the Harriet and Charlie Shaffer Cognitive Empowerment Program. Through a unique research partnership with Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Cognitive Empowerment program is a research program designed to co-create a sustainable learning community that promotes joy, purpose, brain health, and wellness through innovation and personalized lifestyle programs, technologies, and physical environments.
Our vision is to empower people facing memory loss and cognitive changes by creating an evidence-based model for lifestyle interventions that can be replicated nationally and internationally.
Our programming includes cognitive training, physical training, nutrition, support groups, and a host of other topics to increase their sense of empowerment and community and hopefully decrease their symptoms.
