I would highly recommend that when you watch community you spend as much time staring at Danny Pudi as you possibly can, his reactions are always stellar
soo agree community is so fun to rewatch cuz i always notice background reactions/details i missed before and danny’s mannerisms as abed and his reactions in particular r so golden
@@luckycharmstv701 couldn't agree more, I'm doing a rewatch atm where I go through the whole show from start to finish and it's just so nice to be able to look for background details and stuff like that
Let's not forget (as I did during my recent rewatch of s1-3) that Abed had a whole entire solo storyline that was written in the background of scenes involving a pregnant woman, an angry boyfriend, and Abed delivering her baby in the back of an SUV.
I have only seen this man in two tv shows and I stand by the statement that he's the greatest actor of this time. Why has he not been the lead in anything? Why world why?
Oh, I'll debate you on this. Danny Pudi IS the greatest character actor to have ever laced up acting sneakers! Past, present and future generations pale in comparison to his chameleon like abilities. Of course, if I were to truly take in your statement correctly, I would have to agree with you. He is one of the most underrated character actors currently working. 🎤 drop!
@@mickylawless1941 Look, I love Danny too, but there is no way you can claim he’s the greatest ever. There are so many great actors with decades and dozens of amazing movies under their belts.
i love how much the group (especially troy, of course) works with abed’s neurodivergence, especially when he gets so into his pop culture bits that you *have* to be play along to even be able to communicate
Eh we never really got to see the other timeliness all the much. I imagine abed had some Heartbreakers when Troy and Britta got married and had Chewbacca.
I think what goes great for Danny Pudi with the role in Community, is that he gets a chance to show off so many different acting styles, and character changes, while being able to instantly flip back to the Abed personality. The fact that he can display, so well, a character with Aspergers without it being incredibly over-the-top or offensive is, in itself, quite good. But to be able to get that character to display how he feels by acting out as different characters, and responding to events the same way, that's pretty dang good... I don't think I'd want him as a lead role, not because I dislike him, but because he does absolutely amazingly as a supporting, and side role. I don't think that's the right terming. But in the same way he is in this. Jeff is the main character, but Annie, Shirley, Pierce, Troy, Abed, and Britta, all are able to bounce off of him and have their own cut-aways without it feeling off. Abed, in my own mind, does this best. He plays so many different roles, while still being Abed. All of the paintball episodes are pretty good examples.
Technically Abed wasn't written to have aspergers, Dan Harmon based some of his character on a friend who had aspergers but also on himself, and then he realized he also had aspergers when the audience noticed how autism coded Abed was (and got a diagnosis and everything). Community is such a well written show but I wonder if Abed was purposefully autism coded from the start it might've been a more over the top performance, the accidental coding of Abed probably the best thing to happen to the character as it became a more natural slow progression in the writers and all the characters realizing what that meant for Abed.
Danny just really commits to everything he does, and I think that really is wonderful. I mean, all actors do, but he doesn’t even have an ego about it he is amazing!!
Danny Pudi should have got an Emmy Nom for his performance, and he should have got cast in more works than what he has got , the industry isn't generous with work opportunities to Asian actors esp ones with South Asian heritage
hey real quick coming from an autistic person can y'all not use the term Aspergers? It's a really outdated term (you can't get diagnosed with it anymore) that was removed for VERY good reasons. For one, doctors have decided that it isn't separate from autism. But there's more than that, the name has deep roots in Nazism. Dr. Hans Asperger first encountered Nazi child psychiatry when he traveled from Vienna to Germany in 1934, at age 28. His senior colleagues there were developing diagnoses of social shortcomings for children who they said lacked connection to the community, uneager to join in collective Reich activities such as the Hitler Youth. Right after the Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938 - and the purge of his Jewish and liberal associates from the University of Vienna - Asperger introduced his own diagnosis of social detachment: “autistic psychopathy.” As Asperger sought promotion to associate professor, his writings about the diagnosis grew harsher. He stressed the “cruelty” and “sadistic traits” of the children he studied, itemizing their “autistic acts of malice.” He also called autistic psychopaths “intelligent automata.” Asperger also warned that “less favorable cases” would “roam the streets” as adults, “grotesque and dilapidated.” These words were like a death sentence, and dozens of the children he examined were killed. Let me stress this next part: Child “euthanasia” was the Reich’s first program of mass extermination, begun by Hitler in July 1939 to get rid of children regarded as a drain on the state and a danger to its gene pool. Most of the victims were physically healthy, neither suffering nor terminally ill. They were simply deemed to have physical, mental or behavioral defects. At least 5,000 children perished in around 37 “special wards.” Am Spiegelgrund, in Vienna, was one of the deadliest. Killings were done in the youths’ own beds, as nurses issued overdoses of sedatives until the children grew ill and died, usually of pneumonia. One of his patients, 5-year-old Elisabeth Schreiber, could speak only one word, “mama.” A nurse reported that she was “very affectionate” and, “if treated strictly, cries and hugs the nurse.” Elisabeth was killed, and her brain kept in a collection of over 400 children’s brains for research in Spiegelgrund’s cellar. In 1994, Asperger disorder was added to the American manual of mental disorders, where it remained until it was reclassified in 2013 as autism spectrum disorder. Yet Asperger syndrome is still an official diagnosis in most countries. And it is ubiquitous in popular culture, where “Aspergery” is too often invoked to describe general social awkwardness, a stereotype for classmates and co-workers that overshadows their individuality. Does the man behind the name matter? To medical ethics, it does. Naming a disorder after someone is meant to credit and commend, and Asperger merited neither. His definition of “autistic psychopaths” is antithetical to understandings of autism today, and he sent dozens of children to their deaths. We should stop saying “Asperger.” It’s one way to honor the children killed in his name as well as those still labeled with it. Besides, the American Psychiatric Association has ruled that Asperger isn’t even a useful descriptor. TLDR: Dr. Hans Asperger was a Nazi who studied autistic children, executed them after he was done and kept their brains in jars, called autistic people some very horrible things, and encouraged the mass extinctions where thousand of children died. Aspergers has also been ruled out by the medical community because it isn't separate from autism and has been ruled as not a useful descriptor.
This is missing My Dinner With Andre and every one of his lightning tongue twister monologues. And the shot of his face while Troy‘s boat is pulling away.
I was watching community with my mom like 30 minutes ago. She absolutely lost it when Abed was “being A version of himself “ (The second clip in this video). Abed and Troy are adorable.
sjkjgsh so sorry (but to answer ur question it's cuz when i was putting the clips together it cracked me up that the guy who made me cry like three separate times in one mq episode is the same guy who climbed on a desk yelling 'im a sexy cat')
He's amazing, and the Community team was wise to realize what they had with that ensemble. I'm sure Abed was originally supposed to be the weird kid nobody connects with, who is allowed to hang with the group because he's harmless, but secretly everyone's a tiny bit concerned because he's also a tad creepy. I fall down laughing every time I see the scene where Abed vamps his way over to talk to a girl. It's very Marty Feldman.
honestly, if the award people won't give him what he deserves, we, gen z, could just create an award just for him. such talent simply CANNOT be unawarded !!
