I think the excess use of the transfer portal was probably one of the worst things to come to college volleyball. You always get teams like Texas that cultivate their lineups from the best transfers that they can get from other teams instead of cultivating their own talent. Younger players on these rosters come looking for a chance to play on the lineup just for the coaching staff to get someone on the transfer portal so that they can "develop" the younger players. The whole point of recruiting is to recruit players that you want playing for you on your team. Whats the point if you just grab someone from the transfer portal that has shown success elsewhere and you never start your recruits? I'm not saying the transfer portal is inherently bad because there are players that transfer to other teams that need it and truly make a difference. Just look at the effects of Alli Batenhorst and Skylar Fields for USC. They transferred from big programs to smaller ones and have significantly contributed to the success of their new teams without impeding on the development of the other players in the program. The part thats most frustrating is when teams bring together the best players from other programs and then make like this super team and then they end up winning close to everything. Teams like 2023 Wisconsin who had Sarah Franklin, Carter Booth, CC Crawford, and Temi Thomas-Ailara. All of them large contributors to their previous teams starting over all of Wisconsins other recruits. And this years Texas with Madi Skinner, Regan Rutherford, Avery Carlson, and Jenna Wenaas who are all part of the starting lineup over true recruits that have the talent to be there over them (mostly Jenna Wenaas). I'm also not saying that bringing in Avery Carlson from Baylor was bad, because she's obviously older and therefore more experienced and could prove to provide valuable advice to Swindle. Just look at other setter relationships like Kennedi Orr and Bergen Reilly at Nebraska. The freshman got the start over the junior, but Orr serves to help Reilly adjust to the college game at a higher level. Carlson could have done that with Swindle, but instead of recruiting from the transfer portal to help your existing setter, Texas only recruited to find a replacement for Swindle with experience. Swindle isn't "learning" or "developing" anything, this transfer has only served to ruin the confidence that came with winning a Championship her freshman year, drastically worsening her game. Okay I'm done now lmao. Remember this is only my OPINION, and feel free to agree or disagree.
agree!!!! louder pls!!! nothing wrong with using the portal, but it gets to the point where Elliot is only focused on the transfers & not the players he recruited. later, this would be a disaster bc he can’t use his bench to sub anyone bc they don’t have any experiences bc Elliot is way too focused on the transfers. Not sure why they brought in Averi when they also had Marina before losing her bc Elliot doesn’t use what he has now. Marina could’ve helped Ella at some point but no
I agree with this! I feel like the only true transfers they needed was someone to replace Molly which Reagan Rutherford has done an incredible job. And someone with experience to replace Carissa Barnes. Like you said, there was no reason to get a transfer setter when they won a title with a freshman setter. Plus they had another one who had transferred to Missouri and one that they recruited sitting on the bench

Longhorn fan here congrats OU, I saw this coming a long time ago earlier in the season since OU defeated Tennessee and took both Tennessee and Florida to 5 sets, and given Texas defensive struggles, Texas seems like they've already given up before we even hit the postseason, and I believe they're headed for an early exit. But such a great turnaround by coach Aaron Mansfield, y'all definitely aren't here to play any games this year, and I think y'all will make some noise in the tourney. texas went from playing 6-2,5-1,6-2,5-1,then now 6-0?! not a texas hater but a huge volleyball fan. i just want to see top teams perform well as they are supposed to with the talent on the roster. for texas, i always question the need of recruiting Carlson( not that she’s not great) but texas could have focused on developing Swindle and her connection with the team but then decided split 50/50 of the time with Carlson unless you practice twice as much as others, otherwise it’s easy math. you think Fairbanks only spend 50% of the time with Stafford and Babcock? plus did you really need to recruit 2 pins( Rutherford was meh in kentucky anyway/ whitney has been injuried) when you have a team full of talented freshmen and players (like Devin) to build and being led by Skinner. but no you ripped the foundation and let the rotten part (Wenaas) grow

A lot of issues right now with Texas and it's not just a 6-2 vs 5-1 thing though that's one of them. They're not doing any of the little things well. Passing is bad therefore setting isn't great and surprisingly hitting hasn't been efficient either even when you get a good set. The defense is playing the worst of the year right now too. Texas should be a top blocking team and too many balls are getting through our block and touching ground one way or the other.
what a dumpster fire... picking up Carlson in the transfer portal was one of the worst things Texas did. Instead of training a molding your setter who ran the offense to a title as a freshman you threw her under the bus by bringing in another setter. What's funny is even though Swindle has less playing time usually if you watch the flow of her sets she takes more risks and gets hitters in better opportunities and she runs the middle more aggressively.... idk what the coaches are thinking... and Wenass just ain't doing anything lmao
So you expected Texas to just have one setter for the entire season? And if she got hurt what then? Like do yall not think when you comment stuff like this? Do you not think Jared picks up players just for practice also? This is college volleyball not your little HS team who doesn’t have enough players to play.
@ lol we’re not idiots my guy of course he would have another setter. And she does a two handed set when sending over a free ball. She has her good days and bad days but lately, it’s all been bad

What is going on with texas? They literally have a national team caliber player (skinner) on their team. I really thought skinner would go pro after last year. No offense but there is nothing left to prove in the college scene. 3 championship titles and an extra covid year of playing…she should be building her international resume for the upcoming olympics in her home country.
The Longhorns play like conscientious objectors. They refuse to fight ! If they don't find some heart, they will be playing 5A high school teams next year !🤩
Skinner is amazing, Rutherford... and yet... They are liuterally getting beat by one person- Shelton! I am not saying that other members of the sooners are not playing amazing but ...Texas isn;t even able to isolate her.
@@WhitneyGadison1my take is a lot 🤣 starts all the way from the beginning with block touches (or lack there of). They aren’t slowing the ball down enough and Halter is being ran all over. Defense seems poor. Passing seems poor. The hitting errors would decrease if those two things were better. Not switching out players that aren’t working. Why have a bench if you don’t use it? Did Whitney red shirt this season? She was incredible at Nebraska. I don’t understand why she isn’t playing if she’s available and healthy. Also, the mentality when the team is down seems really bad as a group. Did he ever say why he replaced the freshman setter? She wasn’t perfect but that must’ve destroyed her confidence after a championship.
@@kycone I agree with everything! Block touches are slow cus Texas has two inexperienced middle blockers that are always late to close the block but they will get better hopefully. Serve receive and passing has been horrible all season from pretty much everyone. The only player that needs to be bench is Jenna wennaas. I don’t want to sound mean about it but everyone has been saying the same thing. She can’t pass, and she can’t hit from either the back or the front row. Liability. Whitney is medically redshirting, she had a boot on her foot. And Ella is in a sophomore slump right now. Her connections are everywhere and her playing time got cut in half to pretty much getting bench for the transfer setter that they didn’t need at all! I think it’s a confidence thing and I feel like if she goes out there she’s afraid to make a mistake and might get bench. Don’t get me wrong, Averi has the better connections and the better serves but she’s a liability at the net because of her height. And she doesn’t play good defense. Ella has the height to provide a block in the front row and can play defense. Coach just needs to let her play and watch and see the difference

Lmaoo Texas is a joke this year. Elliott is relying so much on his transfers to get the job done but it’s backfired and now he’s hesitant to use his bench because none of them have any experience and it’s basically the end of conference play already. This situation, along with the constant switching of setters is really throwing this team off. But because they are Texas, I suspect they’ll only move down like two spots in the upcoming rankings.

IDC what anyone else says, Rutherford needs to go. Sure, her hitting percentage is high, but on how many attempts? I'd rather have someone with a lower hitting % that contributes more to the team. How is her season high 15 kills, on a 5 set match? Her defense is not good either.
@@jorgegarcia3635 Rutherford?? I see you are looking at the percentages, let me give you some more percentages. Jenna wenaas 8 kills 35 total attacks in a 5 setter. But Reagan needs to go. But Rutherford needs to go right? She’s not even the issue.
I’m going have to disagree with you. Rutherford is definitely not the issue and her defense is pretty good. It’s definitely better than JW because she does chase the ball. Edit: JW plays the most but produce the least! Not even 1st in hitting % which said a lot about her recently

This player is playing most of the game in a 6 rotation (except against Oklahoma) and is somehow 3rd in kills on the team. She was playing 6 rotations when in reality, she only needed to play in 3. In the past 3 games, she is the only outside hitter who can’t even get 10+ kills to help her team win. You wanna know how many attempts she has in all of the games? 15+. I get that she has to work her way in but she should be playing by now. I’m just confused how you have someone like that on your team and don’t play her? I couldn’t find anything out by the google.
I like Whitney but she was never a six rotation player at the collegiate level. She played three rotations while at Nebraska, and occasionally served. I can on,y recall her playing all the way around when they ran out of subs while playing Oregon.
The comments from people who you can actually tell don’t watch or play volleyball consistently is killing me 😂 this is COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL ppl. It’s basically a business. Did swindle win a natty last year? Yes. Does that give her RIGHTS to having the starter position? NO. She’s not playing well this year. Point blank period. Her location is consistently off. Why do yall think they call it the Sophomore Slump? Jenna needs to be benched but Whitney is sitting on the bench not in uniform so maybe she’s hurt. Madi is their #1 player but obviously she’s having a really hard season she might be going through something off the court cus she’s never had this many errors it’s insane. It also all comes down to serve and pass. Their serve receive is HORRIBLE. Their defense is horrible. If they can’t get a good pass to the setter, the setter can’t get a good set to the hitter, so the hitter will more than likely make an error or just tip (not getting a kill). Over all the chemistry on the team is just completely lost. There were so many balls that landed in between two players cus they weren’t communicating, two passers next to each other got aces cus they seemed like they didn’t know who was gonna take the seam.
@ also i heard JW lost her starting position at MN before transferring sooo…..
@@lightkook lmaooo, the way she plays it’s understandable. Did you see Texas get moved down to 15 in the rankings?
@ yup! i hope this is a wake up call for JE to make changes fast bc the finals are just around the corner. he needs to know the it’s JW, not devin, not regean, not Madi (yes, her passing but she doesn’t hesitate unlike JW). so many people just don’t see JW as the strongest player rn bc had so many chances to show herself, but don’t bc she knows she won’t lose her spot
Well earned and deserved win and hopefully this actually becomes a better rivalry moving forward. 👏👏
SEC Championship is wide open now, that’s fun.
Please ride the bench JW
So freakin proud of my Sooners!!
texas went from playing 6-2,5-1,6-2,5-1,then now 6-0?! not a texas hater but a huge volleyball fan. i just want to see top teams perform well as they are supposed to with the talent on the roster. for texas, i always question the need of recruiting Carlson( not that she’s not great) but texas could have focused on developing Swindle and her connection with the team but then decided split 50/50 of the time with Carlson unless you practice twice as much as others, otherwise it’s easy math. you think Fairbanks only spend 50% of the time with Stafford and Babcock? plus did you really need to recruit 2 pins( Rutherford was meh in kentucky anyway/ whitney has been injuried) when you have a team full of talented freshmen and players (like Devin) to build and being led by Skinner. but no you ripped the foundation and let the rotten part (Wenaas) grow
right?!! they also had Marina and she could’ve stepped in to help Ella as well. They could’ve made Ella & Marina a bette r player & just develop them.
Edit: I also feel like the only one who is getting “developed” is JW whom is just not doing great rn
@@lightkook JW didn’t get developed. still meh as she was in minnesota. very average OH that texas didn’t need from the beginning.
@@txthch agree, that’s why i put “” bc clearly she has yet to improve. she doesn’t even look like a TX OH. MN were correct about wennas bc she ain’t good & has yet to improve
But you get another one to also develop she was a freshman getting another setter to play when you have a 6’3 setter is an odd choice and obviously based on how they’ve been playing this transfer portal collective team isn’t working.
@@yakobijamesbro 😂 he has another freshman setter already on the team lol this is what I mean when ppl just comment just to comment and don’t know anything 💀😂
@@Randonmatteo people aren’t really commenting on him having a roster it’s more him running a 6-2 when Swindle is 6’3 and already decent at defense and was the setter for them winning the championship.
@@yakobijamesCarlson leads the team in assists. Stats don’t lie. I love swindle she’s just having a sophomore slump and Carlson is the next best thing. Defense is 100 percent killing them tho it’s barely about the setter tbh
Idk why everyone's hating on Jenna, I agree she shouldn't be in backrow but in front row she does well enough. No she's not madi Skinner but she's still a good player
I don’t want to sound rude but Jenna is not a good front row player. If you watch her, her vertical isn’t good and she hits straight into the block instead of trying to tool the block or hit around it. And when she doesn’t hit into the block, she always hits it out. And she does a two handed set when sending over a free ball. She has her good days and bad days but lately, it’s all been bad
Saw Madi wearing boot on her right foot in Facebook posted on Nov 2.
@@pkgonzela5362 you sure it was Madi, there’s another player who also has a boot on her foot that isn’t Madi
@@WhitneyGadison1Yes Madi, not Lauenstein or anybody else. Can't put FB here, so you have to check it out yourself.

egglston fits well as a commentator.. you could tell she does her home work because she talks about both teams equally and positively.. anyways its funny, who is coaches favorites players and what not 😆 i think sets to slow times to low but it takes two. it is what it is i guess
*cough cough*… JW. I’m surprise she is still playing even though she’s been the main problem of TX. How can you play 6 rotation and still produce the least? How are you still even in after mistakes & mistakes
Logan did great. I saw a bunch of really mean comments about how she was anti-Texas on Xitter (before I even knew who was the analyst) so I was listening for it. It wasn’t there at all! 🤣 she was extremely unbiased either way. They must’ve just been mad about the loss.
If they don't find some heart, they will be playing 5A high school teams next year !🤩
@@JohnSimar-m7d 😂😂😂😂😂
Skinner is amazing, Rutherford... and yet... They are liuterally getting beat by one person- Shelton! I am not saying that other members of the sooners are not playing amazing but ...Texas isn;t even able to isolate her.
I’m excited to watch this match. I need to study what the heck is going on at Texas.
Let me know your opinion on it, I’m curious to know!
@@WhitneyGadison1 thanks for the reply. I remember how frustrated the Texas fans would get all last season about JW to the point I actually felt bad for her. Comments on every Xitter post were brutal. That’s why it’s so confusing that they keep trying to force that.
@@kycone I was one of those fans that was frustrated with her but I know not to say anything on any pages on insta or twitter cus I know they probably read that stuff. On here I give criticism because she does need to be bench
The Horns acted like they were playing in a minefield with clown shoes on !🙃
Lmaoo Texas is a joke this year.
Nah, this loss plus the Missouri and A&M loss will move us out the top ten. If the ncaa does keep us there then that’s absolutely insane work
I doubt TX will stay in top 10 and NCAA don’t even like TX
Yall are at least dropping to 12 or as low as 15 I would think ..
@@josiahterry3767nah trust me, this is 3 unranked losses at home, if we are anywhere near that ten spot, that’s just straight bias. Should be in that 15-20 spot no higher than that and no lower than 20
Genuinely they should be out of the top 25.
That’s why we said Transfer U sucked because they won it with the portal. Now his own players don’t have the confidence or experience to play.
Yes!! I think it’s ok with transfer like here and there but not like a million transfer!!! What is Elliot even doing at practice?
Wisconsin please!
The way things are going, it would be impossible for the Horns to repeat as national Champs, if they aren't even selected for the tournament ! 😎
Along with the other problems when you cant win any 5 set matches that seems to be a confidence prblm .Just have to say though 3 straight losses at home wtf you have to be bleeping kidding me.Have to say though when Asjia was out last year they didnt play that well we just blamed it on a new setter. While these new middle players have a lot of talent they are not playing like Asjia and Bella yet. But like has been said Madi has not played well by her standards. according to what I`ve heard they all get along great and supposedly swindle and carlson are like sisters so who knows what the lack of cohesion is about
She was a beyond incredible player that covered up for a lot last season, that’s for sure

Madi had 17 kills with 49 attacks. Granted she had a lot of errors but she is Texas best player. Both middle blockers 7 kills and 15 attempts. You see the difference? But Rutherford needs to go right? She’s not even the issue.
to me she is not the issue
I’m going have to disagree with you. Rutherford is definitely not the issue and her defense is pretty good. It’s definitely better than JW because she does chase the ball.
Edit: JW plays the most but produce the least! Not even 1st in hitting % which said a lot about her recently
@@jorgegarcia3635 matter of fact, let me give you some stats on the person that truly needs to go. Guess who has this stats. Since starting conference play this player has..
@A&M (4th setter match): 8 kills 6 errors
@Lsu: 7 kills 1 errors
South Carolina: 13 kills 2 errors
@florida: 4 kills 2 errors
@arkansas: 8 kills 3 errors
Georgia: 11 kills 2 errors
A&M (5 setter match): 6 kills 7 errors
Missouri (5 setter match): 7 kills 3 errors
Oklahoma(5 setter match) 8 kills 2 errors.
15+. But Reagan needs to go right? when she’s more consistent. This person also a liability in the back row, can’t pass and can’t serve receive at all. But Reagan needs to go right? Go look at the stats on this specific person, compare them to Reagan and you’ll truly see who needs to go.
Can anyone tell me what’s going on with Whitney Lauenstein at Texas? Is she injured/not physically healthy/redshirted? She was an incredible six rotation player previous to her time off.

It’s bad. It’s definitely outside factors playing in. Maybe they’re not getting along outside of volleyball etc.
