Have you noticed that every time Subaru undergoes massive Character development the background scenery symbolizes new beginnings? Like in episode 18 when rem said "let's start from zero" white doves start flying everywhere. That is usually used for marriage but it doesn't mean love, it means a new beginning. Like how a marriage is a new beginning. Or in the parent & child episode where subaru talked about his past to his dad. Cherry blossoms started blooming and falling. Cherry blossoms usually do that at the beginning of school years in Japan, once again. New beginnings. And when Otto made Subaru realize that he's not alone and that he has friends who care about him in the beginning of season 2 part 2, the sun was barely rising to represent morning, a new day, new beginnings. I thought that was really interesting
Wow that is actually very interesting and true, and man i wish didn't say the thing about the doves because always reminds me of that dove flying into the truck meme
what you mentioned about colors of what they wear, I decided to examine some character looks and you're right, it represents them really well! a great example is Betelgeuse: green hair and skin, as well as green under his clothes, represents his rebirth and renewal abilities using the fingers. the black which is the majority of his outfit represents his deadliness, but also the fact that he died and is in a different body, not to mention his sadness and grief from killing Fortuna. the black on him is also slightly purplish, which represents his dignity and devotion as an archbishop, but also his past's mystery, he also has a grandeur look. under his cape you can see red, that shows his passion and love, but is hidden (clouded by madness), it also can show his inner madness.
Incredible Video, Natsuki Subaru is an amazing protagonist that goes though a lot of character development and growth. Not only that, but his fights in the anime, web novel, & light novel mostly test his mental capabilities and is always rewarding as he goes though trial and error to learn his mistakes and go a different path.
Kadokawa doesn't understand that the more a series is discussed and put in the limelight, the more $$$ it garners them in the end. Let fans do their thing and stop shooting yourselves in the foot, Kadokawa!
His clothing is actually important later on in the story. There's a specific character who has the same color scheme as him, (unnaturally similar) and it's hinted they are related.
When I first started watching Re Zero my expectations were low. I had only heard bad things about the anime with Suburu being the main target of these comments, and the only ads I saw of it were Emilia comforting Suburu when he was crying. I only watched it to see if the things I heard were true and my assumptions from the ads were correct. Well I was dead wrong along with everything I heard being wrong. With Suburu being one of the main things I guess wrong on along with nothing I heard on him being correct. Re Zero was an Absolute joy to watch, (currently my third favorite anime) but Suburu was definitely a very big part of why I found it so good but by no means the only one, this whole cast was great. Anyway Suburu is absolutely fantastic and doesn't deserve all the hate he gets.
Nice, I was hoping someone would do a character analysis on Subaru in the story, the only thing I see people talk about is how relatable Subaru is and not how he becomes better through the story. To me return by death isn't Subaru's power, it never really has been, the witch gave it to him and the witch controls when he has won and lost a scenario, however I think it is an amazing training tool. A tool that by the end Subaru wont need because he has used it enough to out grow it and emerge as someone who can stand against the world without being chewed by it.
I hope so.(minor spoiler) I don't know if you have read the novels or not but for anyone who hasn't I just wanna say that so far the anime has only gone through the first 4 arcs (season 1 is 1-3 and season 2 is 4) and so far the novels are just starting arc 7 and there will be 11 arcs total. Arc 1 he died 3 times, Arc 2 he died 4 times, arc 3 he died 4 times, arc 4 he died 5 times, arc 5(what will be season 3) he only died 3 times, arc 6(season 4) he died 26 times though, and so far in the first 20 chapters of arc 7 he has already died 7 times(he literally died in the first chapter).
@@dott-dude1119 thank you for the information, i hope Subaru will continue to grow and show more developed characteristics like his wit, so he can over come obsticles with less deaths and defeat the malicious beings that plague the world, and help those that dont know better (garfield as an example).

Honestly, he could've left from the start or pretty much, anytime, if he wanted to. But he didn't, he chose to suffer for his decisions. And I love this guy for it. We really need more active Isekai protagonists, most isekai protagonists feel like they would do nothing, if they didn't happen to stumble upon something along their way.
I am an up-to-date WN and LN reader, and here’s something cool I found about Subaru. In Arc 6, he wears a scarf the color of marigold flowers. Marigolds represent warmth, love, and the fragility of life. They can also represent anguish, despair, and envy. He wears a green jacket. Green can represent growth and renewal, as well as peace and calm. He also wears a black cape that drapes behind him. This video covers what that means for Subaru. Most of the Re: Zero haters are anime-only, and I can understand to some degree why. Subaru doesn’t quite mature until Arc 5, which is not covered yet in the anime. I thought Subaru was somewhat annoying when I first watched the anime (the author intended him to be annoying). Then I read the books, and he’s now one of my favorite characters of all time. Thanks for the video, it was quite satisfying to see!
Man, this was such an excellent analysis of Subaru. I really love that you talk about what makes him great and you aren't very harsh when it came to his mistakes, understanding why he does some of them. Whenever I see videos analyzing Subaru (because I love him so much) I always get worried about people being particularly harsh on him making him seem worse than what he should be given credit for. But, like how your titled your video, you explained what made him great, and I appreciate that. I really look forward to your part 2.
Me: *clicks on the video for entertainment* Me 3 minutes later: *tearing up at a guy's clothes* Also, thanks for this. Subaru is my favourite character so it's an amazing feeling when others like him as much as me. This video was great. You need more subs.
I always felt that him striking a pose and being extremely cheerful, was him trying to copy his father in an attempt to give of the same impression when Subaru is feeling scared
Subaru's development across the story is unmatched, showing both suffering and heroic moments. He is human, and that alone makes people think that he is trash because we so much used to idealistic main characters,
According to Tappei himself, the colors of his characters, including their hair colors, do actually carry meaning. He makes sure to pay extra attention to that.
The anime has yet to get to his best development so far in my opinion, in arc 5 he figures out how to get through one of the most stressful situations of his life without failing, and in arc 6 he really starts to trust and rely on everyone else to achieve a goal instead of just pretty much doing it for them, and in arc 7 he is really stepping up to be a leader!
Arc 5 Subaru is end of arc 4 Subaru placed in a situation where he's tested to see if he truly learned from his experiences at the Sanctuary. We also see a ton of his leadership qualities Arc 6 Subaru is him gaining self confidence, learning what makes him so special, and him once again learning to put his full faith in his allies and not hold their hand in everything Arc 7 Subaru is not him stepping up to be a leader. It's showing his more manipulative qualities, and challenging his ideals when it comes to his enemies
To be fair in arc 5 subaru have a lot of good choice because every strong allies is gathering in one place, but in arc 6 with limited allies and how insane his enemy, thats for me is where his growth shine the most
Actually Subaru already failing at that to being leader, if wasnt for priscilla he would of just failed being that and also have to factor in he think's he can get away without anyone dying because he is at Rem's feet saying whatever she wants he will do because of his emotional dependency on her. Being a true leader is also having to make sacrifices something he refuses to learn the truth about being an actual Leader and he needs to stop being leader to Emilia because it's Emilia job to be the leader not him which obviously going to be addressed later on or at least let her also take that role along with him
I'm glad to finally see some love for Subaru. This was really well put together, I enjoyed it a lot. The bit about the meaning behind his color palette was interesting, do you have any plans for analyzing other characters in a similar manner?
Subaru is the one reason that made me like Rezero and keep on watching it. Through him I learned to love the other characters, world, and even a tiny bit of myself.
A lovely video and perfectly follows up from the previous video. Your analysis video is spot on and provides a lovely perspective on Subaru that even I never even considered. As someone that loves colours and uses the meanings behind colour I greatly appreciated that. Some other meaning that can be attached with orange are ambition, justice and opportunity. Which I personally find very fitting for him. I eagerly await part 2!
Subaru is by far one of the best isekai protagonist ever and probably one of the best Anime protagonists. He is so well written and Re:Zero is just an all around masterpiece. Keep up the awesome work bruh🔥🔥🔥
Damn. I think you're the first person on TH-cam who has done an analysis video I've seen who not only seems to understand some of the writing/filmmaking criteria of how characters are made but also understands the theory of how good characters are supposed to be. If you look up "How to create a character", the average website won't address some of the topics you did, which I found fascinating since I've only heard of them during my "Character creation" class. So yeah, that's it! Great job! Did you study something related to filmmaking/writing? Or did you take any courses? :O
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words! Writing is a passion I want to pursue, I'm working on my first story at the moment actually. But I've never taken any classes. I guess just diversifying the media you consume and trying to break them down helps in better understanding the finer details. It's one of those things that's difficult to teach or explain, but you tend to understand it more over time.
I remember the time when people dissed Re:zero because O fits "bad" mc. He was weak, loud, expressive of his feelings, pessimistic, thought too low of himself, and wasn't op like other isekai mc. I do not miss those times at all.
You're an amazing person if you're able to understand what makes the character NATSUKI SUBARU so special. Most people just don't get it. And the ones who do are something else. They're probably the most empathetic people. 😎👍
You know how they say "They hate me because they ain't me."? Well in Subaru's case, it's "They hate me because they are me." The only people who think he's a bad character just don't like looking at their reflection.
@@atlasroyale5294 Ello! Even though I am just one measly person, could you please make the part 2 of this video? Although tbh, I feel like this is a very selfish request because of how much work making a video like this is, but even so, please, PLEASE make a part 2!!!

For all that the “ I love Emilia” scene gets hate it’s kind of necessary for his character. Rem just said that she loves him even despite his faults, so in one last ditch attempt to give up he says that he loves Emilia. But Rem knew that from the start and she chose to be there for him anyways. Which is why I was pretty upset they cut the scene at Flugels tree from being in the anime. Basically it’s just Subaru saying he loves Rem AND Emilia which makes Rems loss of memories even more heartbreaking. It even further contextualizes why he’s fighting to get her memories back and to get everyone to remember her. Because he loves her, and there’s nothing Natsuki Subaru won’t do for those he loves. Emilia and Rem both play major roles in supporting Subaru Rem gives him unwavering support, she acknowledges his faults but pushes him onwards even still, Emilia acknowledges his faults and drives him to be better and to fix them. I could also go on and on about the parallels between Wilhelm and Subaru and why I think those are super important but this comment is long enough as is.

Huh, I never realized that. Thanks for bringing that up
His main power on itself is a form of new beginning
what you mentioned about colors of what they wear, I decided to examine some character looks and you're right, it represents them really well!
a great example is Betelgeuse:
green hair and skin, as well as green under his clothes, represents his rebirth and renewal abilities using the fingers.
the black which is the majority of his outfit represents his deadliness, but also the fact that he died and is in a different body, not to mention his sadness and grief from killing Fortuna.
the black on him is also slightly purplish, which represents his dignity and devotion as an archbishop, but also his past's mystery, he also has a grandeur look.
under his cape you can see red, that shows his passion and love, but is hidden (clouded by madness), it also can show his inner madness.
Fantastic. It’s amazing how deep Re:Zero is when taking a closer look.
Great video! Subaru is someone who’s often misunderstood so I always love to see a good analysis of his character
He is truly an amazing guy.

I'm so happy more and more people love him as he is, he's definitely one of my favourite characters ever, with maybe the best writing
Especially with 6 authorities and beatrice magic
@@dott-dude1119 arc 6 is part of season 3 now
Haters : Subaru is an incel, simp and he cries all the time
Fans : He's just a realistic portrayal of a human being that makes mistake
Haters : ...yeah ok but we don't wanna see that. Its not enjoyable
Fans : Ever considered that maybe its just not for you and moving on to something else instead crying and acting entitled?
Haters : (speechless)
Honestly, he could've left from the start or pretty much, anytime, if he wanted to. But he didn't, he chose to suffer for his decisions. And I love this guy for it. We really need more active Isekai protagonists, most isekai protagonists feel like they would do nothing, if they didn't happen to stumble upon something along their way.
awesome video many people just assume what Subaru's character is.
Facts
I still believe arc 6 Subaru becomes even better, like, really great
I am an up-to-date WN and LN reader, and here’s something cool I found about Subaru.
I know, people are so quick to trash him for every error he commits. And worse, attribute everything to “otaku culture”.

Thank you, I’m happy it resonated with you!
I always felt that him striking a pose and being extremely cheerful, was him trying to copy his father in an attempt to give of the same impression when Subaru is feeling scared
I read the thumbnail and just clicked
We also see a ton of his leadership qualities
Arc 6 Subaru is him gaining self confidence, learning what makes him so special, and him once again learning to put his full faith in his allies and not hold their hand in everything
Arc 7 Subaru is not him stepping up to be a leader.
Being a true leader is also having to make sacrifices something he refuses to learn the truth about being an actual Leader and he needs to stop being leader to Emilia because it's Emilia job to be the leader not him which obviously going to be addressed later on or at least let her also take that role along with him
I have a feeling this video is gonna blow up, can’t wait!
I'm glad to finally see some love for Subaru. This was really well put together, I enjoyed it a lot. The bit about the meaning behind his color palette was interesting, do you have any plans for analyzing other characters in a similar manner?

Your analysis video is spot on and provides a lovely perspective on Subaru that even I never even considered.
As someone that loves colours and uses the meanings behind colour I greatly appreciated that. Some other meaning that can be attached with orange are ambition, justice and opportunity. Which I personally find very fitting for him.

There are 2 kinds of people who understand Subaru, Tappei and who watched this video.
I'm looking forward to part 2
He’s one of the best mc out there
I remember the time when people dissed Re:zero because O fits "bad" mc. He was weak, loud, expressive of his feelings, pessimistic, thought too low of himself, and wasn't op like other isekai mc. I do not miss those times at all.

Wow, great video. Aside from some editing errors, this video is pretty novel.
Yeah, still getting the hang of things
Hey great analysis and writing man! Really enjoyed it, keep at it and you can really go somewhere

The one thing i hate about subaru is that he and Stella are exactly same. They are doing everything in name love and wanting to other people to understand them which they never asked for
