I want some more flowers in my garden this year. We had flowering things - flowers, flowering herbs, etc. - but I'd like to have some more pretty flowers this year. Our gardening season was too weird last year to make any better plans.
I’m in the process of relocating my raised bed garden to a better spot in my back yard with all new beds and an irrigation system. This new garden is designed much better than my first 12 years ago and will be easier to maintain in my older age. I have also made a mental list this year of the varieties that I will not plant ever again due to our climate and the insect pressure in my area. I’ve spent too much time, energy and resources trying to grow some vegetables that are just not going to do well here. I’m staying with what works but I will always try at least one vegetable that’s fun and unusual each year.
I have been beating myself up and worrying about so many things that went wrong this year in my garden. But your video helped me realize that I had some great successes this growing year too. Great excercise to help me build a positive mindset and set goals for the new year. Thanks
Seriously, I have a dozen failures every year. I actually enjoy sharing them. You learn far more from the failures than you do the successes. My advice is to dwell on the successes and build on them. Don't dwell on the failures - study them, instead. It's great to succeed on the first try, but failing, then getting it right the 2nd or 3rd time...there is nothing sweeter than that! Happy New Year!
You’ve inspired me to add figs, apples, blueberries, blackberries, pears and strawberries to my garden this year. I made Louisiana hot sauce for the first time this year that was really good.
This is such great advice. You think you will remember...BUT you won't. By writing it down it will jog the memory AND inspire new ideas. I look at gardening as one big experiment, that way I am never disappointed when things don't turn out and extatic when they do. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year and a bountiful harvest.
Starting from seed this year and making my own potting soil both for the first time! Started germinating a couple siletz jiffy pellets and a few new pepper plants on the 26th. Most of the stuff I asked for for Christmas was for gardening haha.
That's great. If you need some guidance on making potting mix, I have a couple videos. Make seed starting mix with coir: th-cam.com/video/jbsIHN3Zb0w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h8752FLCobBKKhVl Make bulk mix for containers: th-cam.com/video/t3kx5PhCJU8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xKh0L7pzgNREJa2P
@@2MinuteGardenTips I have watched them all many times and calculated everything that I’ll need to buy in the available quantities. I’ve had a cart on home depot’s website for about 2 months now haha. Just been waiting to get the rest of my supplies from Christmas and also have enough saved up for everything! You have the best catalog of instructional videos on the internet by far!
I plan on setting up an irrigation system for my hot Texas garden this spring. Also adding a greenhouse for my seedlings, Lord willing. I enjoy your videos😊😊😊
Please be sure to use shade cloth. That will be the biggest single thing you can do in Texas. More important than mulching. More important than drip irrigation. Nothing beats shade cloth. Shade cloth + mulching + drip irrigation can defeat heat in any climate: th-cam.com/video/cO-U1wYGZ8Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ahegR2A5dMi6f_1J
I moved back to my veggie garden after renting our home past five years. I only managed to get some tomatoes planted past summer as the garden was choked with weeds. It's taken me months to get the beds back in planting shape plus the rest of the 0.4 acre which is planted in lots of fruit trees. I have fava, artichoke, onions, garlic and parsley growing now. Will drop dress everything with compost as finances and time allows. Planning on the usuals: tomatoes, peppers, kale, chard, cukes, winter squash and zucchini. Going to try fennel this year and just purchased a semi dwarf blood orange. Also going to try purple sweet potatoes. Starting my slips this week. Excited for 2025!
Those look like beautiful Meyer Lemons in the background. I would love to find a spot in my yard to garden without every animal stopping by for a bite! 🤔
I don't think so. Nothing really wants the lemons. The skin is very thick, and if they ever got through, they'd be pretty sorry. Have you ever tried to eat a lemon like an apple? You won't want to 😂
My advice would be to set it up as soon as you can. The more you stare at it just sitting there, fully assembled, the faster you'll do something with it. The motivation is good.
You totally inspire me, I just want to grow a simple herb garden. I enjoyed your video on using them as fillers for your yard. Our trees are growing well so I really want to try that out.
I'm so glad to hear that! It is a major efficiency move. I planted sage and thyme in between my apples and pears, and both are thriving. I'm using rosemary as an HOS-compliant bush in the front yard. I put in lemongrass, too, in between some trees (we'll see if it makes it over winter). I think I'm going to put my oregano in the ground in spring, too.
Well my first for the new year is to cover my citrus for next week here in south Georgia going to be on single digits, massive polar vortex. Using chicken wire and mulch with plastic around it. Hope this helps.
My big plans are to add a container garden and a citrus area in my garden. Thanks for making videos that are both fun to watch but also useful and helpful. Happy New Year 🎊
That's a strategy I've seen people do in Florida, since southern lawns are terrible and get increasingly terrible the further south you go. I once saw people with waterfront property simply install AstroTurf and make a "beach." Weed-free forever.
Are you watching the weather forecasts? Are you Prepared for the new year? The east coast is going to get arctic blasts blizzards and very cold temps in january? Month long cold?
Yes. I am aware of the models. There is still a lot of disagreement between the Euro and GFS models. We will have to wait another 2-3 days to get a clearer picture. These models are not reliable outside of 7 days.
I had poor success with cucumbers and worse with summer squash. I will be trying those again (yes I am stubborn). I will also be trying a good handful of new tomato and pepper varieties.
Please check out my video on cucumbers from last year. You may find it revealing: th-cam.com/video/lKc-HVDWkcs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tDAWGW2FK1gzz5wj These varieties will have you overwhelmed with fruits.
@2MinuteGardenTips I have watched that several times and bought the varieties you recommended. I got perhaps 4 female flowers, all at end of season when the plants were mostly dead. Perhaps I received the wrong seeds; I bought those (and some other similar) varieties again from different suppliers and will try again in spring.
I’m going to mulch my pathetic looking lawn, which will give my yard a better look. Plus I can grow container vining fruits & veggies 🍉 🎃 on it and put more container fruit trees on it 🍎 🍑
Mulch always makes everything look better. My lawn is pretty pathetic, as well. I just have no desire to have a nice lawn 😂 We're all about the edibles!
I tried ginger, it was still growing b4 frost...just growing. So I transplanted it & brought it inside....the tops died. So I thot hey it's done or they rotted. I dug them up & got a couple little pieces, that's it, disappointed!
Do you have any big gardening plans for 2025? What are they? Let us know in the comments below!

Aiming to double all tomato, cucumber, pepper, corn, and apple yields.

Finally pulling the trigger on planting some more fruit trees... 😬
Outstanding! You'll be so happy you did in 2-3 years.

Happy New Year to you, too!

I’m also overwintering a cayenne, if it ever cools down enough haha.

Squash zucchini sun burned them up! First year I was giving them to my neighbors. We had a heat wave in CA! Will plant again’

Grading all soil, & installing fake grass for ADA ease.

I hope its not too bad! But the models are all in agreement about a cold blast just not about the severity.
Prediction says most of Florida will be below freezing 32f-25f, temperatures will be 25-30 f below the average lows for the southeast.
Power outages are possible

I haven't tried growing ginger before. But, it sounds like you had a timing issue. Maybe you need to plant in earlier to beat the cold.
No more dinosaur ugly sweater? 😂. #CTgreenhouse
Unfortunately, that sweater only has a usable life of about 10 days a year.
