Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video. I hope B.C. minds its herring. The European herring, silver darlings, have been fished out. It seems there is a criticial mass below which recovery is very difficult. Here in Ireland when I was growing up fridays were non meat days as a pennance. We had no fridges and we ate salted herring, Catholic or not, which really was a pennance. We also ate for breakfast Kippers which are smoked herring but very bony. They were very cheap. and moved along the coast and the boats and gutting, salting and barrelling crews, moved with them.

So interesting to hear your experience with herring and kippers growing up. Herring all but disappeared on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This is the fourth year the the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has not allowed commercial fishing on the west coast and apparently 2024 has shown promise with herring stocks starting to rebound. I think there are limits on the east side of the island. Let's hope the efforts help the herring survive. As always, thanks for watching Andrew!😎

When I lived in Qualicum (inn the 90 s) I once seen the roe on the beach that looked like snow banks of almost two feet high. Then the herring fishing really reduced the stock. Good vlog.

Nice video, makes me think of the old expression - "Don't drink the water, the fish f#@% in it"...

Yes, thx for sharing, would make a nice show to grade school also. Amazing change in the color of the ocean by such a small fish. Kudos for the plethora of nice drone shots.

Definitely easier to see the colours from above. Glad you enjoyed this episode Alex and thanks for watching!😎

Beautiful video! Do you use a drone to get these images?

Hi Wilma, yes we use a drone for the aerial shots. It’s much easier to see the herring spawn this way! Thanks for watching😊

Were you allowed to fly a drone without permit in this area?

Yes! We always follow the strict flying zones when flying the drone. Thanks for watching 😎
